I think our garage is 6'8 to come in. But I gotta park on the 3rd level and I think the limit on that is 6'6.

Check DMV laws to double check what I typed though...it's something like that. Before it was nothing could be on the windshield, then they changed it to something like I stated above.
Thanks for the tip. I moved the holder to the left driver side corner. Now j can avoid getting a ticket.

Hey Toyo, I also rear that somewhere on here. Evenly spread is probably the best choice. Also about that wind resistance and worse milage. Thats shomething I need to take into consideration because I already have a crappy 14-15mpg. I dknt wanna be brought down to 13. Thatd just be a waste of gas.

Alright guys, after many tries i was finally able to get the vent off of the passenger side to get to that last nut for the dash removal. And boy did it put up a fight! Who would have knows what a royal pain it would be to just remove one damn nut....

Ed, I know you were curious to see about the underside of our first gen 4Runner dash board just as i was. So here ya go

As you can see the factory holes are there after all like a few people stated. Now we got proof.

Once i managed to take the dash off i went ahead and used a drill with a drill bit for drilling into metal(its all i had at the time, still got the job done)

After that everything else was bolt on hardware from the inclinometer bracket. Once it's on just re-install doing the reverse of the removal. Make sure to get the dashboard inserted into the 2 clips at the far side nearest to the window. I found it easier to insert them by starting from the left bolt and nut then moving along to the 2 clips till i reached the right hand vent.

Finished installation.

At the moment I dont have any power going to the wires for the inclinometer. It will still work since its all mechanical, it just wont light up. I did, however, plug it to some 12v & Ground and i found seen that it does work. My right bulb was burnt out so i'll need to replace that bulb. I used some extra wire to extend the slack so i have more to work with when i do connect the wires to something.

Ed i know you were also curious to know if there is a factory clip on the wire harness. If there is one i sure as heck didn't find it. So what i plan to do is either wire into the tail lights, headlights, or dash lights. Seems like the only way to go if i want my inclinometer lights to turn on at the same time as the speedometer lights. If you're not concerned with being the lights coming on at the same time then a plain 12V wire with a Ground wire will work just fine. After all the inclinometer has an on and off button for the lights. But then again, why would you wanna go that route when you could just have it work automatically with the switch of your headlights ya know.

Now there is consequences to frustration and and impatience. Lol
I wish i would have walked away and came back to it. I was just in a rush because my sunlight is limited and my street isn't very bright so i had to be done by about 5:30. Just with the pulling of the dash to remove i realized that i made the crack nearest to the windshield about 1" longer and made a new crack closest to the front of the dash. Both cracks shown here:

Also I'd recommend to read over Terry's thread and watch over his vent removal video a few times so this doesn't happen to you too.

I'm not worrying too much about the cracks n stuff since im gonna be getting a dashboard cover to hide it all lol. But i really wish i would have taken my time with this. Would have came out much cleaner

Here's his thread. Links to the page where everything is explained:
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...9/index19.html

Here is a shortcut to the video. WATCH IT!!!
http://s1098.photobucket.com/albums/...=dashvideo.mp4

I'm probably gonna be removing the dash again tomorrow so i can wire that inclinometer. If i happen to remove the dash board again i will take some more pix for you.

I'm gonna make a "1st Gen Inclinometer Installation thread" for people like us that didn't get one included in our trucks. Honestly, i think if i would have known what i know now i probably could have done this in 1 to 1&1/2 hours. but because this was my first time it took me about 3 haha Once i get more pix and find out where i'll be tapping into for the wires then i'll go ahead and get that thread started. I'm sure it will be helpful to a lot of people. I didnt find any "How to" install inclinometer anywhere on here. I figured i'd catch on as i went along with terry's dash removal info lol

Anyway hope you guys like the update. I'm happy with the installation. and i learned something new today
And Thank you very much Terry, for putting up that dash removal info. But most of all. thanks for making that vent removal video. that was the most helpful piece of information i could have possibly used lol.

Really now? Thanks a lot Toyo. I'm gonna have to look for that connector tomorrow. That'll definitely save me time trying to figure out what wires I should tap into. Maybe it was really well hidden or something because I really looked and I couldnt find it. Let ya know if I have any luck. You have an 88 sr5 4Runner too so I'm sure itd be the same for me with my 89 sr5.

I just wanted to see for myself. I had a few people say there was. and a few say there isnt. so i wanted to see a picture for proof ya know. You get a lot of mixed opinions on this site. Sometimes its hard to weave out opinions from fact. I think if i ever need to install another one of these inclinometers again i will be sure of how to do it. and i'll be able to do it much cleaner too.

I personal don't see too many people actually use their roof racks. I see a lot of people showing off their rack and what not buy never actually use it. It's cool to have but it's just cost money and like you said lowers gas mileage. Been on the trails and seeing how dusty everything is. I'm glad all my gear is on the inside. Rain/snow dust/theives and so on. If I do a rack it would be with one of those enclosed cargo boxes. It haz a aero shape and its sealed.

Oh when I added my inclinometer. There was already spots on the under side that shows where to drill.

Nice job man, the Meter looked good home slice! I often think about what toyo just said and how most never use Em, the racks. ... The way I'm installing the side rails, we'll, now u fully understand what I'm doing, and that I'll be able to pull off the cage, easily, anytime that I want. I will use it, but probably not that often, like when rolling around town & to the malls & to the gas station, hahahahaha. It would be nice to have lights up there is well, so I'm trying to plan that out, but I'll probably end up going white with those, like more of a fog light size, or, in other words, like the ones you see at the auto parts store that are around 3 by 5 inches. They don't take very much power, and there have actually been many instances where I could have used more lights, all around the truck, like when I camp in the dunes off 395 highway headed towards Death Valley, where it becomes pitch black at times. Talk about a beautiful view, Richard, it's actually 1 of the most beautiful, majestic use that I've ever seen of the Sierras, including Mount Whitney and basically the whole Mountain scape.

On those trips, I often find myself putting gear on the roof at night, even on trips to the Angeles Crest National Forest, we're bears just love to reach under the truck or wherever you left your stuff and do their best to tear it all out & trash it all over the campground.having a cage up there in certain trips will also help free up lots of space in the rear. This way I can keep all of my lighter gear on top of the roof in the cage, freaking up all kinds of space,... For instance, I can put all of my bedding and clothing up there in my Swiss waterproof bag, tied down tight, and all the have your gear down low in the bed, with plenty of space still to see out of the back. Then, when I get there, I pull out the gear, set up the tent, set up a gazebo stove and table setting type stuffand then pull all the bedding and clothing into the back of the rig, set it up for the night and put the things more likely to be torn apart by bears up top in the cage, like the cooler and dry goods. Sometimes, if the Bears are really snooping around quite a bit, I'll keep things like dry goods and such and the front seats. But, it will still be very nice to have things up on the roof, nice & secured with straps and safe from the weather with the proper planning and materials.I totally get where Toyo is coming from, and they're not always a practical choice for everyone, but I can think of at least a dozen times when I wish that I had a cage on the roof. During an extended trip, especially. I hope you understand, Richard, I wasn't trying to discourage you tonight while we were talking about the roof rack. I just know that this is a big choice that is fairly permanent when you're talking about a fiberglass roof, hahahaha. I think if you really plan this out, you're going to wind up with something you'll be very satisfied with.

I also wanted to mention, that at 1 time, I placed a bookmark on a link 2 a website that had just about every option for side rails known to man upon their site. Hopefully, what up too much trouble, I'll be able to find it amongst my 500 bookmarks.

That's why it's better to make it removable/modular so easy to remove when using as DD.

I will be having to use it quite often. Camping and off-road is one thing, but my band is gonna start playing shows sometime this year and most of the other guys only have cars. so i'll be hauling around a lot of our gear on the inside and on the rack. That is definitely gonna come in handy having it.

Mark it's cool i know you were just trying to give me options and opinions. Thank you for that. Hope you didnt feel bad for me declining your offer on your rack.

That camping place sounds nice mark. I'd like to go camp there some day. call me a lil girl but i kind of get scared when its pitch black outside lol. Ive had way too many scary things happen when its pitch black out and having high beams on your car/truck just doesnt cut it. Almost seems like the darkness is overpowering the lights. lol

BTW thanks for the compliment. Terry did a great job on the paint job. Looks great to me.

Dude, NO worries... Just wanted to let someone who can use it have it, ya know? I might find another cross bar and just sell it or something, instead, like a 'Full package', lol... It's solid, as you saw... Just that you already had an almost identical(in the way it works, moves around) set up... and can easily just remove it and cruise with the Chebbbby Rack

C'MON WITH THE PICS! lol.... I'm sure it was dark... so good idea on waiting. Anyway, wanna see the wax job, too .... How's that tennis elbow right about now, right? ... Tellin ya... if you've not done hand waxing in a bit, NO way to explain how tight the arms get after a few coats! lol....

BTW, I told you, few times... I have 2 Orbital high end machines for that.... If you wanna do the rest of the rig, ...lemme know, k?

WOOT, stoked for ya, man!
