As for your 3.0 I am in the same boat as you. I will do a swap but right now my 3.0 runs great. I have encountered no issues with it. It even sounds healthy after 270,000 km.


I want more power but there are other things to do first.

 

So far I've enjoyed my newly rebuilt 3.0
No complaints on it at all except for the mpg. But other then that I agree I dont have any problems with mine. I'm sure some day when I pack on another 200k more miles then I might do an engine swap with something more powerful/more economic. Till then im happy just learning everything i can and getting more experience familiarizing myself with this engine. But for now I'm happy with it.

 

hope to get my chevy 63s installed but i need to order some OME front torsion bars 1st. yup im finally changing out my orginal factory torsion bars. i want more LIFT. the 63s i see could raise the rear a few. well im hoping it sits how it does now in the update pictures i posted. i have the spare tire and all the gear out and empty gas tank. the rear sits higher even with the heavy bumper but i did remove the factory hitch.

well worth the 4 hours plus the $$ to make it work. well spent $$$ because i go lucky and found another awesome welder who builds bumpers for tacomas only. he does do other projects on request only. his company is Brute Force Fab. you can check out his website to see his other work

the bumper is a Hanson Bumper. they use to make toyota bumpers but now on easy street making only Jeep Bumpers. was told this was one of this last bumpers made

i wouldnt rebuild my engine tho. if it just blows a HG, i will just do a HG as long as everything else check outs. if compression goes due to age or whatever. engine swap maybe in my future lol 3.4 and possible supercharged if $$ allows

 

decided i wanted a little more lift up front. looking to gain another 1/2 - 1 inch more lift
went with OME. no other pictures of the install, pretty easy to do since mine wasnt rusted together, knew this before i started since i did do the LT kit not to long ago


next day i decided to take a trip to my 2nd backyard, Yosemite National Park. was expecting snow but snow this year has been pretty weak so

i know right. its only like 1.5-2 hours away. pretty much anything in any direction is 2-4 hours away. LA, SF, Pismo, Yosemite, off road trails, snowboarding, lakes, casino. lol
use to hate where I live but now that im into all kinds of hobbies, i love where I live lol.

still need to redo my exhaust system. want replace the muffler with a newer model 4runner or tacoma muffler. i like to keep the sound quite

too bad i didnt bring a real camera, would have to borrow my cousins SLR lol. initial impressions of t bars: a little firmer than OEM in a good way i suppose. really wouldnt have notice them for everyday driving. since i live in the city with well paved roads. taking it up on twister roads, most noticeable is that i have less body roll now (i have been sway bar less)
im hoping to soften up a little after a few trips on the rocks. we'll have to see how it does on the rocks, hope i havent lost any flex. braking is better with less front noise dive.

i got the bumper used and is made by HANSON, they have long stopped making Toyota bumpers and now on easy street with just JEEP stuff

I really like it and would roll it foh sho! I like the tube ones, but really love ur ARB/Iron Bull, CBI style even more.... just a bit more pricey. Eeek, lol. Lil less low pro, but sick lines, they just go with the 1st gens so well !

Interesting on the OME tbars.... how much lift ya get? Lol tot eh? I've heard that. Easy install u said? Could I run em with my bj spacers?

 

i like to go against all odds lol 3.0, automatic, IFS, plated bumpers, and so on lol
tube rear bumpers from marlin or tg will run $300 and up plus shipping (for you) i got lucky and was able to pick this up and modified for $550 with the option of adding swing outs. tube bumper swing outs are possible but i havent seen much. i have see marlin and tg rear bumpers fold in the middle just rolling into a tree. anyways i know its hard to spend $$$ on bumpers but to me, this runner is irreplaceable, dont make them anymore and glad i dont DD this. now that i have protection all around i feel much safer and money well spent. enough of that lol im sure if money wasnt an issue we would have similar looking rigs

my stock t bars was already maxed out and the rear sat just a tad higher. i have plans for 63s out rear and may be expecting a little more lift than i have now with zuk mod. the OME was a no brainier since they are only a tad thicker than factory. really didnt want to be to stiff and reduce my flex. i also wanted more lift up front since it still sat a little low. im still working adjusting them since it settle a little. im thinking of setting it an inch or more higher.

the OME t bars will work with your bj spacers but unless you have maxed your factory bars i dont see the need for it. was easy to install since the most common problem i have see are the splines rusted in place, mine wasnt the case and slide in and out with no problems, still had factory grease

 

HAHA, well, it's not so much money being an issue for me, it's really more about my paranoia over the next crisis that could be coming, hahaha. Nah, it's all good, and I plan to do all of it, even a serious motor swap and possibly SAS,.... But for now, I think I'll just drive the crap out of it with a few added things I'm doing right now of course. Lol. Yes sir, you have a beauty there Toyo! I love it when people give you crap For things such as upgrading your IFS, or whatever they're griping might be about, he he he... The bottom line is, you have to drive it, enjoy it, and it's your hard earned money! Even if you didn't use it, why does it bother people so much? but the fact is that you do use it. And plenty. can't wait to see whatever is next, Toyo. I really do love that bumper!

 

i would never do a SAS, i instead picked up a SA truck instead lol. its the only thing i have to keep me sane haha. the IFS as worked so well and it only makes me a better driver. a SA will be a point and drive. i love a little challenge. there are limits of a IFS but i keep building to work around them.

we have talked about bumpers for a while back. i was originally gonna have one built but i waited so long that i got lucky and found one that was what i was looking for

 

PS: I don't want to max out my torsion bars,.! Hahaha. No, really, I was just curious if those different torsion bars allow you to get a little more Lift without losing any flex in the front end . When I added my BJ spacers, I actually relaxed my torsion bars as much as possible. With my Zuk mod, the rear end came up 3.75 inches, but I can't say that that is over stock ... I mean, the dang thing was so saggy, I was something like 1 inch or 2 from the bump stop just sitting there! Hehe. However, now I'm going with the Old Man Emu leaf pax and greasable longer shackles, so I was just a little concerned that I might be truly up 3 inches overstock or more and wind up with the wicked rake! We'll see, the experimenting is half the fun, right?
