Yea. Ive been to junkyards 3 times since i found the white front and hood for my car and I have had bad luck finding that car. They just arent ever there! I only see older corolla's and a ton of camreys

Yea Mark you know it! She's definitely a keeper.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have some more news. My girl and i have been talking a lot about camping trips And we've been wanting to go on a 4wheeling weekend trip with Mark and some of the other guys. So because of that I've been putting a lot of thought in to buying a roof rack, blow up mattress and a tent. I was browsing craigslist today. and I've been in search for a Yakima LoadWarrior roof rack since i joined this website but i have never had the funds or the luck to find one in good shape. So today i finally found a Yakima Load Warrior with all the hardware! ( Lock, Stretch Net & Wind fairing ) All this stuff for $180. Due to the rack only being 44" wide, 39" long, 6.5 tall. I might end up ordering the Load Warrior Extension that gives me 18" more length. Obviously i wont be ordering it till i have the rood rack in my possession but based on the Yakima website. The roofrack with the extrender the dimensions will then be increased to 62 x 39 x 6.5 inches.
http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv...525555577.html
I already contacted him. We're planning to meet up tomorrow WOOT!

Looks like mark isnt the only one who will be doing the confer rack mod xD
Gonna need some help on mine too Mark.

He just text me. Looks like gonna have to drive to San Fernando Valley in Reseda. So that's gonna be a nice LOONG DRIVE! but hey, cant beat $180 for all that. So it'll be worth it.

I have done the same with the battery. Always check the simple things first. In most cases I get in a hurry and move to the next step and dont completely finsh the last step and then I get bitten in the butt for it.

I have plans to be working on my interior on my 86 by the end of this coming week. It has two tone gray paint on the interior and I am sure I will have some left over. I will ask my Post Office lady if it can be shipped to California. Any other place probably wouldnt be a problem.

I had a factory gray kick panel and went with it and didnt realize that Toyota actually had 2 different grays for the main color. My panel is trimmed in the darker gray.

Ah Terry its ok. Really the color isn't hella bad. It give my truck some character having 2 tones lol

Alright guys here are the pictures/video of my new roof rack and rails.
It's like i said. I got the Yakima basket, the things to hold it onto the crossbars, 2 locks, and a Yakima net all for $180
I went straight to the junk yard after buying it and got myself this stock rack off an older version tahoo or Chevy Blazer I cant remember. i really dont remember the year. this rack only cost me about $24. I think i scored with both these deals.

I Went ahead and ordered the extender for the basket today too.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yakima-LoadWarrior-Extension-Cargo-Basket-Roof-Rack-/390522875641?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5aecfa2ef9&vxp=mtr
Here's a little problem i encountered. The roof rack width is too long. I'm going to have to cut it down about 4". because the way it sits now it just ends up on top of the glass. which you can clearly see in this picture

I get more into detail in this video. So I'll spare you the pix.

Hi Richard,
Rack looks similar to the Suburban one I got from Mark.
I think that would work well once trimmed right. I suggest you look at RBX's write-up. His sideways spacing looks very good, so I plan to use same, but also need to move rear foot a farther backward to clear window glass mounting. Don't forget that thicker fiberglas structure where glass mounts extends farther when seen from inside. PIcs of how I plan to do mine are on my post here.
I haven't figured out how much narrower and shorter I have to trim. When you figure out, please let us know ideal rail-to-rail (left to right)width.

Hey Richard.... I have a next Gen Yukon XL Rack you can have if you want it..... It's MUCH longer on the side rails.. and you could cut them to fit. Plus, the cross bars are much easier, and have slot clicks in them... You pull up a lever and they slide forward or back and lock when you push the levers back down. ONLY problem is it only had one cross bar... So we'd have to keep eyes open for another...BUT, I think you'd like it better. It's even got a center mounting foot, to make it EXTRA sturdy on the side rails and allow more weight capacity, etc., ya know? Lemme know. You're welcome to come over and look at it.. I was going to use it, but since I'm going another route... You can have it, especially since it needs another cross bar. OR BETTER, you could exchange that one for one of the ones I'm talking about. I posted pics of it on my build... NOT knocking what you got, it's NICE, and the Yakima? GREAT FREAKING DEAL! Just offering, as you said you wanted it longer/front to back... You could cut the length shorter to fit and cut the cross bars, too... (RBX did it)...

I also have another S10 Rack with all the cross bars and hardware you'd need(200# Capacity as well).. and I cut one already a lil shorter..(was a 4door, so it was TOO long, like the XL Yukon rack)... The other one would have to be cut too and the cross bars cut, just like the one you got.. BUT, since I cut the one already and I'm not using it.. You could use that as well(You saw it when Grego and Rad were over... It's ALMOST the same as what you have.. Maybe a lil longer front to back, even cut)?? I only mention this stuff because, well, you're gonna be going through the roof.. and you only wanna do that once, period, ya know?

PS> Yeah, far as the convo earlier....sorry, I was on the run and the "the thingy and the other thing"-explanations back and forth weren't getting anywhere, hahaha. SOON as we hung up, I figured what you meant.. Although, I thought you were mounting it to the side rails... Not the Cross bars... This will be good, cuz you'll have both and can remove the cage any time and still have a practical 'roof rack' when you're cageless.

You are moving right along with your truck. Getting quite a bit done. Send some of your weather this way. I got alot I would like to do, but it is just to cold to do anything lately.

Will do Ray. Hey I took at look at yiur thread link. I understand what you mean about tbe roof rack now. Just one thing to say about that. Wouldnt it be better to mount through those thicker pieces instead? I mean I havent really examined it the hard top really good yet, but from what I seen in my short observation yesterday I was actually thinking about mounting it through there. Id imagine id have more support if I did that rather then mounting it through the thinner part. Right? I dunno I may be wrong. Like I said I havent taken a good look yet. So ill tell ya later on if I observe anything different today.

Hey Mark. The one you told me about with the 3 mounting places on each side rail sounds good. I like the sound of that. Maybe I can go sometime this week to take a look. I also agree, I only wanna do this roof rack once. I wonder if I can use my side rails on that one that youre talking about. I need to see it in person again. But yea thanks for offering. I definitely wanna have this done before the next off road trip. But if I do get this done by then I also want to put up some sort of fabric or carpeting on the inside of my camper shell. I know you all have seen how nasty it looks right now without it. Itd be nice to get that installed first. So I can the put those plates on top of the carpetting/fabric on the interior roof. You get me? Or who know maybe I should wait till after the installatio. To put the fabric. This way I can cover it up and you wont be able to tell it was ever there. I would need to know how bulky the mounting would be inside the truck first. If its thin then who know maybe I will cover it all up.

Haha we've been ranging about 50's to high 60's or so. To me this is cold as heck but I'm sure for you guys out there this is paradise lol Dude i was really bummed out yesterday on my trip to the junk yard. I had just driven 15miles from my house to there and just paid. Im not even 100ft into the yard when it started to sprinkle. I figured a little bit of water isnt gonna stop me from getting what i came for. I wont turn back after driving 15 miles and paying the $2 entree fee just to leave empty handed NO WAY! lol So i continued looking for possible roof rack matches for my truck. I finally find one on a Jeep Grand Cherokee. And i get one screw off and BOOM it began to pour rain! And im just wearing jeans and a shirt, with, unfortunately, my good shoes. lol I grabbed my tools head to my truck grab a sweater and a cardboard box to cover myself with. head back take the roof rack off. Only to find that it was the wrong length lol by this time i was already soaked from head to toe so i didnt even care about the box haha! Eventually, about 3 hours later of looking and comparing the racks i finally decided on the Tahoe rack. but its funny because once i decided on that tahoe rack the rain immediately stopped and it got sunny outside as i was removing the rack. You can almost hear the heavens music "Haaawwwwww" as it beams a light onto the Vehicle. lol
That rain was totally un called for because when i arrived it was sunny with clouds. then boom it pours NO FAIR haha

At first thought yes, but we would have to verify how far into that "thick" area the glass goes. Yes, pls keep us posted when you do.

Woo man i got busy today.

First of all here are some updates on the Corolla.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright, As for my roof rack, this is what went down. I took a couple of measurements found that i needed to cut down my cross bars to 31 & 1/8". Once mounted onto the side rails end up having about 0.5" space on each side before reaching the windows.

Once cut i had to make some new holes because obviously the ones it had were just cut off lol

Darn. I thought i had the measurments dead on. lol It's ok i just made the hole a bit more oval shape and it worked fine. You can see in my picture below where i marked with permanent marker. I was at least able to get the 2nd cross bar right.

Sorry for the crappy quality. My phone takes great pix but apparently night time is its kryptonite. Anyway here are the pix of the way it looks on my roof now. Perfect fit. I'll try to upload some more pix tomorrow when there's daylight.

Had to get my brother to hold up some flash lights so i could get a semi view-able picture for you guys.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After i was done playing with the rack i pulled the Yakima Load Warrior to try to open up the locks. And i was having a really hard time. I literally spent about 20 minutes trying to get them open. So I'm assuming the locks might have been seized. So i put some WD-40 in it. and it still didnt work. I sent the guy i bought it off of a text and he said it should be working because he had just taken it off his truck before i came. he doesnt understand why it wouldnt work. and he said i know thats the right key because i down own any other Yakima products. Told me to use some oil or lube of some sort and that should work. He also found it weird because he was able to take it off his truck in about 1-2 minutes when i told him i was on my way. Said he's willing to try to open it for me if i got back to his house on one of his days off. But that guy lives like 30 miles away. I'd much rather attempt to get it open on my own lol. So i told him its ok. and eventually just ended up telling me, "Sorry for the hassle man but in case you do decide to drive back up here i will give you a Safari utility strap net for your truck for free! i never used it and its still new. ill just give it to you for all the trouble and and beside its just sitting in my garage.

I'm kinda thinking about it lol might be cool to get one of those utility strap nets.
I just dont wanna waste 1/3 of a tank just so he can tell me, "look dummy, this here is what you gotta do. Ya see you put the key into this doo-bally-doo and twist this way...(2 seconds later)..... voila. There ya go!

"look dummy, this here is what you gotta do. Ya see you put the key into this doo-bally-doo and twist this way...(2 seconds later)..... voila. There ya go!" hahahaha.... that cracked me up.

Wow, sorry man... Maybe you have to push down then turn?(I'm SURE you tried everything, ...sorry, lol)... That kinda stuff happens... Gotta try 'key' stuff right in front of them, always... I had that happen to me with a HUGE cable lock I got from this guy... He wrote the combo down... BUT HE WAS DYSLEXIC! HAHAHA. (NOT laughin at Dyslexia... it's not funny... Just the situation was though)... I couldn't get my bike off this rack on the back... REALLY screwed up my day... I read it back to him, what he wrote... he said, "NO, that's not right, it's this"... he had turned around like 3 numbers when he wrote it..but HE SAW it that way in his mind... Crazy stuff, .... kinda like my OCD!

Anyway, LOOKS GREAT! If you're happy with that, go for it, homie! Lemme know if you wanna look at the one I have, it's not going anywhere.. Actually, either of the ones I have. And as a matter of fact... The extra 2 S10 Cross Bars I have would fit that, I'LL BET YOU! Not that you need em... But lemme know either way. Heck, maybe even the center support foot would work on that one.

Corolla looks great, nice work, man! Personally, I like it better without all the 'Shnazzo' stuff on there... But I get it, people like it, nothing wrong with that. It looks CLEAN, more 'low profile' for the Po-Po, etc., ya know? lol.

I was thinking the same thing. Not to mention this guy had this Yakima basket so well kept. The black isnt even faded. It still looks brand spankin' new. He said when he wasnt driving the truck it was always garage kept. Hope he didnt take offense or think I was acusing him of selling a phoney item. But I was just curious lol. He told me this:
I don't want you to drive back 30miles but I feel bad cos i know i can turn that key! Lol. I'm just letting you know that I'm backing you up with what I sold you cos I am positive that the loc is not defective or anything.

Dude I seriously feel like thats whatll happen. I'm gonna get to his house and he is going to the key in there and just twist and miraculously it's going to open by itself hahaha! Id like to get that safari utility strap net that he was telling me about. it's free. Dunno if its worth the gas. Id have to drive my truck up there because that wont fit in my car.

Thanks for the comments on the car. I honest to god dont like driving it at all right now. But w/e. Its saving me $$$ and its taking me further on a tank of gas for less ya know. I'm starting to get used to driving a triple colored car with no embarassment lol
I also agree with you about the Low Pro with the Po Po. lol I never really got much attention from the cops though. Only time id get puklled over was when i had first had the body kit put on and painted. with my 18" rims. It really did look like i might be a street racer. Got pulled over many times at the beginning. Mainly for them to look under my hood for engine mods but only to find a plain stock 1.8L 4 cyl lol.
As for your roof rack I still wanna take a look at it. I think it's worth a shot if you say that the side rails might be the same. If that's the case who knows maybe I might be able to use my cross bars and the 1 that you have and just use them with your side bars since they are longer. The rack I have looks like it will just barely enough for the Yakima basket the way it sits right now. once I get the load warrior extension of 18 inches I think it might not be sufficient enough to hold the whole basket. I just went ahead and cut it just because I was curious to see how it would look on top of my truck once cut to the right width. I think your center support on the rack u have is still very much needed.

Yea, agree with that....sell that gay stuff and leave it normal looking. It's a 4 door stock engine corolla sedan, not a coupe turbo sports car. Put the stock hub caps on and with it painted it will look nice and presentable. Those cars weren't made to look sporty/racey....It's a 4-DOOR SEDAN....SCHOOL, WORK AND SUPERMARKET TYPE OF CAR....don't turn it into a "wanna-be". The rear spoiler is "just enough" in my opinion to give it a little edginess so people know a soccer mom isn't driving it.

Yea honestly i think putting that body kit on was one of the worst decisions I ever made with that car lol. Ih well. I think once I get the car painted I might either go the hub cap route or with some simple nice rims. I dont wanna go all out on this car again. Saving all the fancy stuff for my truck.

[EDIT]
Here is some info for the inclinometer installation. I'm gonna be needing this for this weekend. Hope im able to get to it this saturday.

I would just prime, and paint the rims with Grego's formula. Simple elegance, Nothing to worry about getting stolen, nothing to fall off, easy to keep clean. That's what I plan to do on our 2007 Corolla whose one hubcap fell off.

Here is some info for the inclinometer installation. I'm gonna be needing this for this weekend. Hope im able to get to it this saturday.[/COLOR]

I like this option the best:
"3. Wire the light in parallel with some dimming dash light, such as the back light for the cigarette lighter. This way the back light turns on and off with the rest of the lights and dims along with them, too.
This option above is the most correct and should work the best since that is how all the dimming dash light work, they are floating in that they are not directly tied to power OR ground. All the "ground" side connections are tied to the rheostat that serves to limit the current in the lights to make them dim."
