Just a little update. I finally received my insurance payout for that last accident. I got it this Saturday. Came out to $1715. Woot! And I also got paid this Friday hahaha yay!

I really like that version of switches that can be easily unscrewed and taken apart, compared to snapped or glued together. I think that for things we take to remote places, there should be an easy way to disassemble clean/inspect/repair on the field. Guns that people have trusted their lives on for decades are the same way. Something must be right about that idea. I wish more parts and vehicles are like that.

Richard, I hope you could take pics of switches taken apart and post them.

I also think it's best to go by physical layout of window control harness, instead of using the FSM- color codes and pin-outs just don't match your harness.

Best if you can find schematic exactly for your model. Do you or Grego remember what model-year you got the harness from? I hope other members have schematic for it.
I'll make sure to take your advice on that color code not matching the Factory Service Manual(FSM). I'm gonna trace the wires and fix the colors on that FSM. At least to match the colors I have off my donor wires. Also I spoke to Grego and we both believe the donor was a 1988 4Runner. As for your pix of the buttons. Sure I'll take some pix of them taken apart. After all it only 6screws. I wish I had some before pictures so u guys could compare then with the after shots. Oh well...

Here are a couple of pix I took to show you the internals of my power window buttons.

Close up on the driver side button.
I really wish I would have taken before pix. But I forgot to. This main switch had so much green build up on the copper pieces and the contacts were all corroded. So in order to fix this problem I used CLR cleaner to remove all the corrosion. Soaked it for 2 minutes then used a Q-Tip to rub the hell out of it. Used clean water to rinse it off. Then used a blow drier to dry. Let it dry over night. Then I used the sand paper to clean up even more and further expose the contacts. After that I used this white sand paper-ish plastic paper that Rad4Runner gave me to finish it off with a nice clean polish. I'm sure Rad and Mark can definitely see the difference.

This is the passenger side button. I didn't clean this one at all. As you can see the contacts on this one are in much better shape then the driver side. And if you look really closely you can see that it still has the factory grease on it. And it's so shiney.

Well I do prefer power windows/mirrors over manual any day. Not only that but I really dent have much of a choice now lol I refuse to give in to the difficulties that I run into with these. Plus when I have YotaTech and you guys putting your 2cents in I know I'll be able to get it done with time. I can't imagine people starting on something like this only to give up when running into a problem. Especially because this is one hell of an expensive mod. I think it's about $300 not to mention the tools I've had to buy to be able to do it lol

It's all good. When I'm done with this I will be able to look back at all this with pride. And maybe even pay it forward to someone else who wants to do this mod in the future.

Oh yea, definitely. After cleaning this master control I tested everything and they all worked perfectly fine. When I get time I wanna start working on checking those wires. Would have done it today but my older brother came by. So I spent most of the day with him.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's actually kind of funny. I haven't really seen my brother for a good visit in months now and when he came over today he was amazed with all the knowledge I've gained thanks to this website and you all here. He never thought I'd know/learn so much so quickly.
The last time I spoke to him was about 3 months ago. So when he came over today he asked me... "So what have you done to your truck since you rebuilt the motor." Then it really donged on me. It's really been that long. Damn.... so I showed him all the vacuume stuff I did, all the new and used parts I've installed into the truck inside and under the hood. Showed him my light mod in the engine bay. Then he asked what else are you gonna do.... and I let him have it lol. Began talking in YotaTech lingo and I completely lost him hahaha. So he asked if I could show him. So I showed him all the SAS, lift, gears, locker, stuff I've bought since I last seen him. Then I explained what everything does. Then told him about the inclinometer that I plan to install, the power windows, mirrors, and showed him my spaghetti soup of wires lol. And he looked at me like shocked that I was actually taking on all this stuff.
It's funny it's the same look my dad gave me when he seen me testing all my wires. Only difference is my dad being bold told me, do you really think you can do that? Maybe you outta take it to an auto electrician. Almost like saying I can't do it.... which pushed me to do it more. Then over time as he seen my progress in cleaning up the wires and buttons and buying a multimeter and knowing what I'm doing and also rebuilding those new door panels. He gets this smile on his face. That proud look you get when your kids do something you are really proud if them for. Anyway I told my brother about that moment. And he laughed because he knows my dad just as well. And he said. I'm not gonna lie. I'd be too scared to do stuff that drastic. Then he gave that look of approval too.
I don't know about you guys but I don't like to give up. And I have always liked to prove people wrong. Especially when it has to do with my own family not believing in me. Mostly my dad. Lol Gotta tell ya. Those looks they get will never get old. Its priceless.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Btw here's an update. Today I went to AutoZone and O'Reilly. They both have interior paint. I wanted to buy some for my inclinometer cover. But none matched the color exact. They were either too light or way too dark. So Terry offered to paint it for me if I paid to send and return. So I sent the cover to him today. Can't wait to get it back. I'll have a piece of the "Toyota interior restoration master's" work in my truck. thanks again Terry.

Well guys i haven't done much of anything lately. The cold has been making me hold back a lot lately. I know for some of you guys it gets colder then here in CA but with the tons of Over Time hours I've been pulling at work and then been sick the cold can sometimes feel colder then it really is. At least for me.

I went to the U-Pick-Part junk yard In Los Angeles. and just as I'm coming to the front to check in i get the security guard coming up to me to say "We're closed already" I'm like Whaaa??? why? it's still early. Don't you guys close at 5 or 6 like everybody else? HE replied No We close every day at 4:30pm.
Just my luck lol. I figured i would have had time to look for a Toyota corolla to grab the rear bumper and still have time to look for good stuff for my 4Runner

Just catching up on your thread. You have learned alot and each time there will always be something that comes along that you havent tried. Just got to jump in and do it. I remember the looks my dad used to give me as well. That is rewarding in itself showing that you are more then willing to jump in over your head and eventually get it figured out. Just keep chopping at it and you will eventually get that big tree down. One chip at a time.

Terry you totally nailed it. IT really does feel rewarding. I think theres already been about 2 times with my corolla that he has told me just take it to a mechanic. and i tell him NO WAY

Perfect example: The Vacuum problem i had on my 3.0 for the 4runner. I fixed that one all by myself. the BVSV installation too. LOL But i think the biggest surprise for him was fixing the whole front of my corolla myself. lol It was the easiest thing ever haha. and he looked at me when i was removing the damaged parts. just smiled then went back inside the house. After i was done, he came back outside and kind of grabs my by the shoulder and smiles, "Looks good." HAhaha. priceless
My mom by far was the worst of all. She was so mad when i bought the 4runner. Told my dad "Why'd you let him buy that piece of crap !" And i mean you can all see for yourselves on page 1 of this thread. The truck really was in horrible shape. Got mad and said i should have just bought a newer truck. Lol BOY DID I SURPRISE HER!!!
When i moved back home with my parents i asked her to move my truck and when she got back she tells me "Wow Richie, What a difference with your truck." I hadnt been inside your truck since you bought it. She was amazed at the transformation. Not only with the whole interior but also the difference in power/response of the motor after the rebuild. (i didnt rebuild it but still...) You could see it in her face. The Sense of being proud and almost like... ----> <----- lol

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I forgot to mention earlier. I ordered a new shifter boot from marlin crawler yesterday. When i installed the new shift lever ball seat/socket i accidentally ripped the delicate old bushing. And i just reinstalled it. But i noticed that my truck had been leaking some oil. And it looks like it might be coming from there. So i went ahead and ordered it. Even if it isnt that that is leaking. I still needed it anyway. This is what i got: http://www.marlincrawler.com/transmi...t-handle-boots

Glad you're enjoying working on your trucks, Richard and guys!

My current project (critical to this coming winter season) is to make my headlight upgrade harness. Already have wires and H4 connectors. Just waiting for Bosch relays donated by a kind officemate. Also ordered the 200mm DOT Conversion Autopal's through Ebay. Will post details as-built on my build thread.
Happy New Year!

Hey guys I've got some good news and some bad news.
The good news is that my parts came in!
I got my package back from Terry today. I sent my inclinometer to Terry about a week ago to have painted grey to match my interior. Here's how it looks now.

It came out great Terry. You cant even tell the sunburn mark on the plastic was ever there. There's just on small problem. Remember you asked me if i had the light grey or the dark gray interior? lol Well i wasnt sure. and so i just went with whatever grey color you had.
Here is a piece of dashboard i got off a junkyard truck. It's the same color as my dashboard.

See the difference? It's not a humongous difference in gray but you can definitely see it. It's all good. I'm just glad its not Red anymore. I plan to get the cloth dashboard cover for it anyway so we're in the clear. Thank you very much for painting the cover for me dude. i really do apprichiate it Terry.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here is another thing that came in today from Marlin Crawler. It's the main shifter bushing. Mine ripped on me the last time when i removed it to install the 2 shifter pieces.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The bad news is that my truck's battery has been running out of juice for the past 2 days. Yesterday it left me stranded at work. i had to get a jump start off a friend. This happened because i left my dome light on for 2 hours. Then today when i was leaving to work my truck didn't wanna start again. And this time my lights were all off(i made sure) I need to double check and see if it's gonna be my alternator, or my battery that needs replacement.

Richard,
I hope you've made sure you have secure and clean terminals and connections, electrolyte level. If your battery's over 3 years old, it's not unusual for it to go bad. If you suspect your alternator, I got
this cigarette lighter socket battery volt-meter this cigarette lighter socket battery volt-meter
a few weeks ago and had been very handy in troubleshooting my alternator (got it wet when i washed engine).

Also search the forum for battery voltage reading with engine on and engine off and what voltages mean weak battery (around 11.8V?) Good battery (around 12.5V?), when alternator is charging (around 13.5 to 14.5V). Anyway, I think the meter above lists those voltages in its packaging.

Great news guys! Its neither the alternator nor the battery. I'm almost embarrased to say but i pulled a classic rookie mistake. Apparently the last time I messed around with removing my battery and testing the power windiws I must had forgotten to re tighten the nuts on the battery LMAO I took my wrench and tightened it good and voila my truck lives!!! Man.... that was funny. But glad I done need anything now. Woo hoo!

Nice job on the clinometer! WOW! Yeah, it's called "Charcoal Gray", our interior.... S'all good... kinda nice to have the contrast, like on my Super Savvy Door Panels, lol. Very nice of you, Terry!

It's happened to EVERYONE that's owned a vehicle and worked on it... And the important part of that realm of discussion? AT LEAST WE WORK ON THEM! Right? hahaha.

Fab? Smart girl, after all! lol.

Alright then thats good. Feel much better now lol
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well guys we got a lot done today. I got a call from Grego this morning to tell me he found a 2000 Toyota Corolla like mine with the bumper still intact. He was kind enough to pull it off for me. Thanks for looking out for me dude. If u hadnt pulled it off I'm sure the junk yard vultures would have scavanged it all for themselves. Haha I also got the exterior driver side door handle.

After grabbing that bumper my girl and I went back to my parents house to work on the cars. We took off the remaining parts of the body kit which included side skirts and rear bumper. We then installed the rear bumper. Ill post some pix of this later. I took some pix and accidentally deleted them instead of uploading them to photbucket lol I also installedthat door handle. Only down fall is that those parts are both tan color. But ill be painting the car soon so w/e I can deal with a Black, Tan, and White car for a while longer lol.
After we were done with the car I took the liberty of putting my girlfriend to work. And I had her install the shifter bushing for the main stick shift. Here is her work.
