Dang Richard!! you're having bad luck lately!
Are you able to get it in gear? no grinding or hard to shift into gears in the past week? just a pop and then you were done...weird.
I agree with mark, it will be expensive. I have a hoist if you decide to do it yourself, I hear it makes it easier to hold up the engine that way or prop the transmission up while you unbolt it. Just stuff I've read from the camry board from guys who have manuals. I'd be willing to give you a hand....for the learning experience, never did fwd clutch change. Also have a pdf of the factory repair manual for a 2004 corolla if they are similar and you need it.

Greg i know right. been having a lot of bad luck
-No grinding.
-Yes i can get it into gear. but it will not move my car forward or back at all. Only way it will move is if i floor it and that will only move it 1-2 mph. but i dont wanna do that anymore.
Greg thanks for your offer. i would need a place to work on the car though. i dont have anywhere to get to work on it. If not i'd jump right on all the research for sure.

OK, hate to see people throw money away when they're capable of doing it themselves, but I totally understand about not having the space. I want another vehicle but NO SPACE!!
What year is the rolla? if you need the 04' manual let me know and I'll burn it to CD for you and next time I run into you I'll hand it off.
One more question, when you step on the gas pedal and go nowhere...is the speedometer going up as if you're moving? I know you said you move about 1-2 mph, but didn't know if that is what the gauge said or what you "felt" like it was moving at. Because if the speedometer is going up then it could be something else, specially since you have no problem going into gear.

Greg - the speedometer does not move. I just said 1-2mph based on assumption lol its literally that slow.
The Corolla is a 2000. I believe these models were made from 1998-2000 its an 8th gen Corolla.

OH man, .... this sucks! I'm really sorry, Richard!
Hmmmmmm, ....Question;
* Does the motor lose oil/More importantly, does it lose a lil oil and you can't see where?
The reason I ask about he oil loss? Well.... VERY common for a bad rear main leak to DESTROY a clutch. I AM NOT trying to be doom and gloom...And, well, adding a rear main seal job to this is NOT a huge deal, because the trans would be dropped, clutch is out, might as well resurface the flywheel while you're at it.. And voila... Rear main is right there, ya know?
That's IF the rear main is leaking, which as it becomes bad, well, .... it can just render a clutch pretty much useless.
Think about those things they mentioned this way........
1. If the pedal assembly pin popped out and was not engaging the Clutch Master Cylinder... Well, ... you'd not be moving 2mph or even .0002 mph, lol.. not unless you were rolling down a hill, right? The clutch pedal engages the master, which creates the needed pressure, then activates the clutch slave, which pushes in the fork, which pushes on both sides of the throwout bearing flange.... Then the throwout bearing engages the clutch-pressure plate tongues.. As the tongues are engaged, the pressure plate then pulls the clutch disc off of the flywheel, allowing you to change gears, then as you release the clutch, the pressure plate pressure is released and the clutch engages the flywheel, enabling the transmission input shaft to rotate and distribute the power from the crank(delivered through the flywheel/through the clutch) to the transmission gears, which then distributes that force to the transmission output shaft, which turns the driveshafts and then axles and wheels.
NOT trying to insult you, Richard... it just helps to visualize this in your head, ya know? And I have no idea how much you know about the workings of all this.... Heck, I STILL have to remind myself on occasions as far as HOW ALL THIS CRAP WORKS! hahaha.
OK< sooooooo, .... seeing all that I said, knowing that the power starts at the crank, right? It then hits the flywheel...... Which turns the clutch when you're not pressing on the pedal, right? Well, ... if the slave cylinder goes out.... YOU WOULD NOT EVEN be able to get it into gear, NOR OUT OF GEAR...............
.............. Know how I am aware of this? One day, I was getting ready to take off at Wilshire Blvd and Bundy, heading east on Wilshire(I'm assuming you know what a NIGHTMARE intersection that is.....Just picture PCH and Crenshaw, k? hahaha).... As I was sitting there, in 1st Gear, Clutch Pressed in..... The truck suddenly took off, LIKE CRAZY, into the intersection! I hit the brake, and it stalled. THANK GOD! I was 2 feet from smashing into a car turning left off of Bundy onto Wilshire, headed west
CRAPPING MY PANTS, MAN! Well, IMMEDIATELY AFTER, the light turned green, and there I sat in the middle of the intersection, stalled! lol... To get it rolling again, I had to start it with it in gear... IT WOULD NOT come out of gear, no matter how hard I pulled on the shifter. As I hit the starter, it began to lurch forward, 'chug-chug-chug', giving me whiplash, hahaha.... And eventually started, after the 3rd or 4th turn of the starter(bout 5 seconds, not like normal when starting in neutral... The starter was LITERALLY PUSHING THE TRUCK FORWARD until combustion took over! hahaha... I pulled into the gas station and got in a good spot/parking place and killed the motor.... Got underneath, after a call to a buddy... Sure enough, he was right, "Slave cylinder grenaded"... Went to Napa down the street, got an Aisin(they carried Aisin 10 years ago, yep)... And slapped it in.... Then realized, .... "Oh crap, I have to bleed it!"... Grabbed a guy with a sign "Will work for food" on the corner, said, "GET IN and push the clutch when I say and then hold it in", etc., etc... We bled it, it worked, I GLADLY walked over to the 'Broadway Grill' and Bought him STEAK AND FRIES AND CAESAR SALAD! HAHAHA...
Unfortunately.... From my experience, .... This is not likely to be something so easy to get to. This REALLY sounds like the clutch or pressure plate have been about to go out for days.... My guess is that you've had oil leaking onto the clutch or, well, maybe it just gave up the ghost, ya know? THE ONLY way to really tell, on many vehicles, is to remove the trans and start inspecting. HOWEVER, first thing I would do is look up your car and find out; "DOES IT HAVE AN INSPECTION PLATE?"
I would GLADLY help you, Richard... But it sounds like your problem is 'a place to do it'... Having it towed here wouldn't be cheap.... and honestly? Again, I'm not degrading your experience level... But for me? >>> This is still a pretty big job, Richard. >>>> Pretty much entails removing the drivers side wheel, brake, strut, jacking and supporting the motor, removing the subframe, then the tranny itself. Finally , you can then get to the clutch assembly for replacement.
I'm going to PM you about something......... But see what he says on price. I think 350$ would be fair for Labor, if the guys wanting to be helpful, ya know? It's a bit of work.... BUT, for someone who's done it 10 times, maybe... and MANY more 'like it'... IT'S NOT a huge deal, and he doesn't have to charge you by 'the book', ya know what I mean?

Mark, I bet that homeless Dude was so grateful your truck broke down in a way lol He must have been so happy to get such a great dinner.
Mark, i'm still trying to get the hang of this mechanic lingo you guys all use lol.
Mark, to answer your questions:
It does not leak any oil. but it does consume oil. i never see oil under the car after being parked for a while. and i do NOT blow any black smoke or any kind of smoke for that matter. AND i also agree with you. I know i would love to fix this myself to save me a couple hundred bucks, but you are right. it sounds like a ton of work. And i need this fixed soon not in a few weeks. so i might take it to a professional. Especially because i dont know what could go wrong with my truck yet with that noise it has.
Ed thanks for stopping by. and yea man ive been having some pretty bad rotten luck with both my cars lately. i just hope im able to get my car running soon. because it get 2x the amount of gas mileage my truck does. plus thats my baby right there lol.

Oh I don't think it would take ya weeks, man.... Maybe a week of spare time. Just have to be prepared WITH EVERYTHING in advance, that's all. All it is, technically, is 'removing things' and putting them back... There's not much 'adjusting' other than Torque Values... But yes, just dropping the trans can be a bear on a slant motor/FWD
...
I totally get you not wanting to tackle this..... and I have NOTHING negative to say about that..... Aside from the 'cost', it's ALL WIN letting someone else do that! But YOU COULD do it.
First of all, just for S&G's.......... You have a Haynes on this CAR?

I was also thinking the same thing for the Haynes.

Just spoke to the mechanic that did my trucks work. he said he'll only charge me $150 for the new clutch install on my Corolla. That's just for labor. I need to call the auto store now and see what the parts are gonna cost. But Damn that's such a great price compared to what we've all read and what you guys have said. Omg I'm glad I met this mechanic. Great guy. I gotta hold off till Monday to take him my car though cuz he's booked this weekend.

Lol I haven't been too hood with updates lately because ok caught up with a little but of moving here and there and my laptop is all packed up already and my computer desk is now gone lol. So I've been using my smartphone for updates on YotaTech and just got lazy for the past few days.
I called the auto store and they gave me three prices for three different clutch assemblies:
One is $118 which is really cheap. the second one is $145 he said it is a decent clutch but isn't always made with parts as good as OEM . and the OEM one cost 175 + tax. With tax it will be $190.
I am going to buy the OEM clutch. Definitely don't wanna go cheap on a clutch or anything on my cars for that matter. You get what you pay for.
So it'll come out to $150 for labor and $190 for the clutch assembly. But I still need to find out if the clutch is the problem. More then likely it will be but I'd still need to mechanic to take a look at first in case its just a broken piece or something that'll be cheaper to fix. That's all the updates on my Corolla so far. Like I said before I'm gonna have to wait till Monday to take him my car because he's booked these weekend. And I'm gonna need to tow the car too. I was thinking about renting one of those car tow'ers from Uhaul and tow it over with my truck. At least I know my 3.0 v6 cam handle pulling a load
I'm just happy that the cost is only gonna be $340 total vs the other prices I was researching and you guys were giving me like $600-1000.

I would shop around in the mean time for the Aisin/Daikin Clutch kit..... Exedy took over Daikin....and MUCH if not MOST of what's on the shelf now has the Daikin name, like this "Exedy/Daikin".... but are made in China.... LOOK AT IT, FIRST, before you take it home.... It's still a good clutch, but NOT OEM, ya feel me? Daikin Japan? With "Made in Japan" stamped on the pressure plate and disk? And making sure it's a Koyo or other bearing that Toyota Uses.... And you're good to go. True, going to the dealer would be like 375$, AT LEAST... but really... if you're going to go OEM...... make sure it's OEM, right?
Towing it there? I guess.... No one in your family has AAA? Renting that is like 39$ for the day, man. Just curious if you can't find someone to let you use their AAA for a few mile tow. (if it is a few miles.... ? )
Hope it all works out on the rest like it is so far

PS> HAS to be a site like Yotatech for Corollas(I was looking into one when you said you might have blown the clutch).... Where they have vendors that provide Stock/Race/Intermediate Clutch Kits for good prices, MADE IN JAPAN is the best bet. Just hard to come by since the Nuclear situation over there, IIRC.

WOOT WOOT woooooot!
Thanks Chef. Yea normally when i need something done on my car i usually look into the forums on ToyotaNation.com. I'm not part of the forum. but when i search on google i see the results that come up and they are usually good write ups.
And yea i have to tow it. No way around it considering my car wont move.
I'm going over to my parents house tomorrow. and i think their neighbors(the toyota truck guys) have one of the tow things to pull a car. i dont remember. its been a while since ive been in their backyard. but if they do have one i hope they'll let me borrow it for the short tow trip to the mechanic.

Just thought i'd share this. I have to tell somebody lol
For the past 2 weeks the Building management at the building i work in have had a $1000 scholarship for Anybody in the 26story building who is attending or will be attending college. And your truly(me) is still enrolled in ELAC. Essays were due today by 5pm.
By 11am i asked the receptionist what was the latest i could turn mine in because i need to send it in. and she replied, "Well we might have to extend the date because nobody turned in anything... Nothing at all!" DUDE I WAS SO SURPRISED! Super shocked that nobody in this entire building took on this chance at getting $1000 for free for only writing a 250word essay on why do you like working here and what do you like about it's surrounding areas? WTF!?!?! for real!? when she told me that my mouth dropped. and i still had 6 hours to turn mine in. I went ahead and used my work computer at the security desk to type up my written essay. At about 2pm i had called her up again and asked her for some more info. and she said she thinks one person turned in an essay. it was an email notification on her blackberry that is linked to her work desktop and told me she wasnt sure if it was an essay or not yet. So I got my essay attached it to an email along with the proof that im attending school and have been there for 1+ years.
So My essay is now in. and for all i know, i could be the only person in the building if not one of two who turned it in.
This is such great news! Finalists of this scholarship will be announced next week on friday. and whoever wins will get a check in 2 weeks on friday. How nice! if i win this scholarship I am gonna go out and pay for my missing sas parts! rear locker and gears. WOOT!!!!!! talk about being anxious as Fuhhhhhh...! dunno if you are gonna be $1k richer or not. lol Wish me luck. BTW i thought i wrote a great essay definitely worthy of being a winner. And i passed it around work before sending it in. Everyone thought it was a perfect paper. I mean for what it can be considering the subject. lol
Wish me luck guys!

Well I have great news. My mechanic should be done with my corolla's clutch job today if not tomorrow assuming it doesn't rain again. So you know what that means... Yep that's right! The truck project won't be on hold anymore. And I've got tons of ideas.
Mark, I'm gonna have to head out to your place again gotta see these mods you've been doing lately in person. You're inspireing me to wanna do a couple of interior light mods myself. Btw now that I'm moving back home I'm gonna have a lot more spare cash to use. I am gonna finally get my SAS stuff started. and I wanna do RBX's side panel subwoofer mods too. I really like the idea of having the big BOOM Boom sound without it taking up my bed space. It's perfect and out of the way. And i need to have my sounds. Lol. I'm actually anxious to get a start on all this. And the axle rebuild should be getting started within the next month.
I plan to remove my next door neighbours AburnGear locker from his axle. Remove my 3rd member off my SFA. Take the Locker, 3rd member and 4.88 gears to a shop to have professionally installed. Then while that's in the shop I am gonna clean up the whole axle, install mostly everything that came in the rebuild kit. Then when I get that sucker back from the shop ill finish that rebuild. Oh and I forgot to mention paint it up nice.
Yesterday was payday. So looks like the mods will have to wait for another 2 weeks for the next check to come in. But yesterday I was doing a bunch of research on swapping out my first gen wiper arms to 2nd gen wiper arms. and I could not find any results at all.so I decided to make a thread on the subject. Here's my link to it.

Alright guys, I had one hell of a busy weekend this time around. Friday after work I met up with ChefYota4x4(Mark) at the small Wilmington Pick ur Part. And I got a couple of much needed parts for my truck.
Here is the list:
- New windshield washer container, motor wires(thank you so much for finding this for me mark!) Mine has never worked since I got it. Which ill explain in my video.
- New, working, hood latch
- Clutch start/cancel button. PO painted over mine black as he did a lot of other stuff that I've replaced already
- A few grill clips to hold my grill. Most of mine are broken or missing.
- The Green plastic A/C piece for the AC button.
- One of my short air intake hoses
- New to me, windshield wipers arms with the U-shape addition for the newer style wipers.
Here is a video I made of these parts

In addition to hitting up the pick ur part, we also went to grab some grub at a Chinese food buffet, great food with huge king crab legs. Got to try out a lot of new food. It was a good day.
-------------------------------------------------------
Saturday we finally finished our move. Moved all the furniture and boxes then spent the rest of the day settling in and unpacking everything.
--------------------------------------------------------
Sunday morning I began to install the parts I bought from Friday's pick ur part run while washing loads of clothes in between installations.
I got everything installed except for my hoodlatch and grill clips. I didn't have enough time to do that. After installing that stuff I had to make a trip to the mechanic to go pick up my Corolla. It ended up being my clutch that was bad after all. He also told me my car stalls still and recommend changing or cleaning the air flow meter because that's what the problem usually is. I remember cleaning it a few months back so its probably gone bad now. I checked with AutoZone and the part cost $79 with Exchange of my old one. So I'm holding off to see how much my girls uncles will charge me.
And once again I got the car returned to me with dirt, tree SAP, bird poo etc... So when I got home I washed both my car and truck. It is in desperate need of a wax BADLY! And I haven't done it yet.
That's about all I did over this weekend. After washing everything I went to band practice and then had a BBQ with all the band mates cooked up some chicken, steak, mac n cheese, chips and had some Shock Top beers. Stayed till about 11pm. What a busy weekend I had but definitely got loads of stuff accomplished.
