Nope, when I shopped around the bigger company out in Garden Grove or something wanted hundred dollars to do the hubs. The place I went to did them for 40! That's a killer deal dude for the amount of detail involved. I don't think they would charge more than $100 for the whole bumper. You could do it black flat or gloss or gun metal gray or whatever you want. Anyway like I said it was just an idea because I think its just a plain and simple fact that that stuff will hold up to a lot more abuse.

 

By the way the company is powder coating maniac. 15628102078 .... But maybe if your interested let me call them and see if I can make sure that you get a better deal. Okeydoke? The good guys in their younger and just trying to run a small business.

 

just make sure the goo gets on each layer as you put it back together remember these would only be for messy jobs as the shoe good once set isnt pretty also good for waterproofing electrical connections PERMANENTLY


yep or some tire shops sell them as well just get metric studs if you drill it right you can even use the studs in an emergency to get ya back on the road the diagonal mount would look nice take up less real estate as them hylifts are long

we've got an older one used it inside the tracks of the 54 international crawler to disengage the tensioner so we could get a chunk of metal out of the drive wheel an its teeth into the track the tensioner adjuster bolt is frozen so we forced the spring to crush allowing slack in the track

I'll have to look in to this one for sure. but if i powder coat it i will definitely want to do the whole bumper including the tire swing.

I like this idea. Emergency stud lol. I think if i make the tire slightly slanted i might be able to fit the hi-lift behind it. mmmm Soooo many ideas racing through my head. dunno how to mount all this stuff lol. I definitely need to buy all the things i want to mount onto the bumper first before i go on making the tire swing.

Made a trip to Harbor Freight today and bought some sandpaper for metal in 40, 60, 80, and 120 grit.

I only had time to pass the 40 grit through the whole bumper today before it got dark out. and even with a 40grit i can already see the massive difference. It feels smooth to the touch and shines very nice. can only imagine how smooth its gonna be when i get to 120.

Well.... You guys already know what i'm gonna be doing tomorrow. Cant wait to get out of work

i need to get some of those for my frame HF huh? have to check the prices im still amazed at how good my frame is versus the rust everywhere else

if weight is/becomes a problem you could pop holes in it where ya can to lighten it such as the rear face thats where companies lighten with decorative lettering or logos

The Emery Cloth Metal pack,(fine, medium & coarse) from Home Depot? I think you'd really love that stuff as well, buddy. It helps even it out when you want to really smooth it out in the last stage. It really helps to have that cloth in your hand right against the metal/to feel lil imperfections that get difficult to see as it gets shinier. Then finish with "building" primer....you basically "build it up" in layers. You dont really want to go SUPER smooth as you need some texture to get the paint to stick to. If you powdercoat, you dont primer at all, so you end up saving lots of prep time and material/in exchange for cost of powdercoat, ya know?

It would probably be best to have swing out portions how to cut it separately. Don't have it all put together when you take it to them. And if you want I will call them let me know okay? I'm positive I can probably get you a little better deal.

120 is great for paint good tooth for the primer to grab onto but if he say was to get it chromed 300 to 1000 make for the mirror shine lol

All done with sanding the bumper down. This thing is super smooth now. I took about 1hour on each of the sand paper grits that I bought. Here is how it sits right now.






Now I just need to check out those prices on powder coating. Mark, I don't know if its possible for you to get a quote without having the shop actually see the bumper in person but if it is can you please try to see how much they will charge me? I'm really thinking about grabbing some paint and giving it a bunch of coats of both primer and paint. But I know powder will hold up hits to rocks much much better then paint.

Looks damn good buddy! Yeah I will give him a call tonight. Text me a couple pictures with how it stands right now. Make sure to include pictures of the swing out pieces and whatever else. Obviously you need to weld that first before it gets coated ... But if you have an idea of how big they are and all that that would help .

 

I vote paint. Once powder coated and it gets scratched up. You can't touch it up. It's armor. It's suppose to be used as such and it will take damage. Paint is pretty durable these days. Look at how many cars are painted and not powder coated. I have backed up into a tree once and left tree marks on my bumper but paint was still good.

 

I vote skip the powder coat, just paint. Save money for lockers.

Just got off the phone with Mark and I'm just gonna go ahead and primer it and spray paint it matt black like I did my sliders. TOYOTECH had a point. Its much easier to touch up once it gets scratched. And it is armor after all. So that's what ill be doing. Tomorrow I'd like to drive down to that BOBCO Metal store again and but some sqare tubing so we can start on my tire swing. I concluded that I don't want my Hi-Lift on the rear bumper. My rear end is gonna be super heavy as it is and i don't need another 60lb on the bumper so I plan to just mount the lift to my roll cage how Mark has his. But I do plan to still mount that jerry can(s) to the swing too. We'll see how we do this. But as for tomorrow I'd like to give it a coat of primer so i can stop worrying of covering it uo with towels to prevent surface rust from the dew at night.

I still have the masonite templates if you would like to fabricate this bumper on your own. I can just ship the pieces out to you and you just do the same process I did.

Just let me know soon(before friday) because the templates all in the trash can right now. And friday the trash truck comes Lol
