I just left the driveshaft shop and they are only going to charge me 25 dollars to repair my drive shaft because I'm providing all the stuff they need so all I'm getting charged is labor. I'm happy that didn't come out to an arm and a leg.

I guess I'm just going to keep this set up with this drive shaft until I'm able to afford the awesome trails gear one with the ten inch spline.

I was thinking the same thing! but i dont think that'll be possible. The Trail-Gear driveshaft uses part of the stock drive shaft. check it out.
http://www.trail-gear.com/drive-shaft-kit

What i can do is just provide a drive shaft shop my smaller drive shaft and have them weld everything together on that drive shaft vs having them do it on my extended one.

I was going to say, it was bothering me how little up travel you had on your shocks! You definitely have lots more up travel available. Don't get 10 inch shocks. I max those out with these crappy flexing leafs I have.

The info said they don't recommend using them on the street. What happens if you do?

Score on the cheap fix.

Mark I didn't forget about you. I totally forgot to take pix. It just got too late when I realized I had forgotten. Spent all day redoing my resume and making my UCLA profile so I could apply fot jobs there yesterday.
All good though I see what we did and why they sit low now. (Next reply to tuef)

Tuef I looked at the directions yestersay and seen it says the top of the shock hoop should be approx 1/4" - 1/8" away from the top of the fenderwell. If I remember correctly I have about 1/2" - 1" away on mine. Bam there's my problem. Thanks for helping with the detective work. That explains why my shocks only sit at about 3 - 3&1/4" on level ground.

Nah I'm gonna keep them after all. Its like what I said in the top reply to Tuef. I found that I sat my hoops slightly too far up. But that is the amount of space that would be compensated in travel of I would have installed them right. Now I see what happened.

I think they mean by the off road modifications. Just a security measure to cover their ass and say that you are before warned when you buy the parts.

Thanks guys. I agree. $25 is a cheap fix. I should be getting it back today. Gonna drop by on my way home from work.

None that i know of. The only hazard i see out of having a big lift like this is when driving down the freeway and having the need to suddenly slam on your brakes. I noticed that this past weekend. I had to slam on my brakes when i was traveling about 70-75mph and my truck seemed to be pushed to the front driver side corner of my truck. it was really scary. All that tells me is just to follow the law and stay traveling at a speed of 65mph lol
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------\

Today i picked up my driveshaft from the shop. I really dont like this new driveshaft guy. He is really lazy. Each time ive met with him for these past 3 days he has that attitude. That "i dont wanna work/be here" attitude. Anyway. He bent up my spline cover A LOT more then how it originally was. Completely left it unusable. He told me if you have the tools you can go ahead and take it off yourself to save yourself a couple bucks. I'll only charge you for changing out the flange. He charged me $10. I seen how he did it and i watched a few videos and i now know how to work on drive shafts. it doesnt seem hard at all.

Anyway i went ahead and took my unfinished driveshaft back. Left kind of mad. but glad i didnt leave the work to him. Here in the picture below you can see how he left it. i used the metal cutter to cut a thin layer off the very end of this thing.

Apparently there was more to get cut.

I then found that these driveshaft sleeves are supposed to be able to be removed with barely any trouble. but mine was ridiculously seized on here that it might as well had been welded. After finding this out i decided to take a chizzle to the area i grinded down. But i still needed more to push down on that sleeve.

So eventually i got the pieces of that sleeve off and this is how it is supposed to look when off.

I took off the sleeve to my spare the same exact way but this time from the very top. Then about 60 smacks later its off!

Used a tube to push down the sleeve over the splines tightly. after every 10 or so hits i i took the other half of the broken drive shaft and hammered that in to center the sleeve with the splines. and kept repeating till the sleeve went completely in.

New Sleeve and with the other half of driveshaft finally on.

I think if i ever bend my driveshaft sleeve again i am just gonna completely remove the thin metal sleeve and use a shock bushing with zipties. I'm sure that would work great. It's not even required to have that damn sleeve for it to work properly. really its just to keep crud out. and grease in.

Loving the build so far Red! I am only about 10% into it so far. I kind of cheated and have read the last couple of pages just cause I couldn't wait to see how the SAS looked. Sorry to hear about your pup. Glad things worked out.

Lol that's funny. The reading anxiously too see the outcome sometimes gets the best of me too haha glad you like the thread so far. The truck has gone through so much since I first started it. I sometimes like to look back on page 1 to see how it looked when I bought it. It always makes my day knowing I did most of bringing this 4runner back to life. Always nice when people asked where did you buy that or who built that for you? Then to be able to answer "I did it/ I built that." Its a very satisfying feeling.

Hey since you're reading through my thrrad maybe you can do me a favor and just note down what page each project is on that I do. I really want to make an index for this long thread lol

Have a good'n. Wishing for the best on the repairs longevity . I might have to sleeve my crank shaft fairly soon if I can't wish this front main seal leak out of existence! Lol. Yeah... I was hoping by some freak chance it was valve cover or something of the sort. But crap happens... Then you gotta fix it. Hahaha
