All it would take for that carrier to take more weight is a couple trusses, no? 20$ to have them welded on, I would imagine, right?

Hey Chef. I have a rim question for you. Maybe you can help me out here. I run 31/12.5/r15 tires. I found a website that have rims that resemble my rims a lot. and im wondering which one you think i am supposed to get the "Type A" or "Type B."? I'm leaning more to type A but i just need another persons opinion.

I wanna use this for a spare tire.

aww crap. i just noticed my rims have 8 holes in them. these rims have 7. =(

 

I would suggest the Type A just because of the clearance issues. I would try and have everything ready before doing the SAS. Sometime you think I will go ahead and start on it and then have to wait on getting parts and not being able to enjoy your truck.

Murphys law kicks in that it will be in the most inconvient place to have and not able to move it around when you need to.

 

You're going steel? NOT EVEN saying they're terrible... Just, well, .... wanna keep the weight down on the carrier and such, no? SO easy to find 5 aluminum wheels on CL, so might wanna keep that in mind, just a thought. BUT, I only see one picture on that link... What's "type B"? lol. OH, type "B may stick out from the fender more due to backspacing" is what it says)

 

Yea the 4 I have on my truck now are aluminum. I just need to find one the matches. But the one i linked isn't even a match. I gotta keep looking.

What I am looking for is for a rim that matches my current rims. Im not sure what brand they are. If you go back to page 1 of my build thread you'll see the pix of my rims.

 

Ok, I see em again.... Forgot, sorry. Hmmmmm.... those are aluminum???? I'm confusededed! lol. OR, they're steel and you're looking for ONE MORE steelie with 8'holes? If it's the latter, I'd try American Racing and see if you can't find it there... Maybe summit? If the prior, maybe try the same or maybe Alcoa? They seem familiar, but I can't tell if they're steel or aluminum... lol.

The material does look thin, so from the pic I would say steel..

Anyway, when looking at those rims, earlier today, I noticed the inset area around the lug holes.... that's NOT indicative of 'steelies'... but IS indicative of aluminum rims, like mine. If they are aluminum, do not try to use lug nuts made for steelies(which are flat-flush), aluminum lug nuts are coned at the tip and actually partially glide INTO the holes a tiny bit... Just like with my stock aluminum rims.

Also, as I THINK I'm seeing in your picture of your wheels... The holes have about 3/8" of material in there from front to back... NO WAY steelies would do that... But aluminum WOULD for strength, but still, BEING aluminum, they'll be much lighter! >>>>

I KNOW, these are NOT the same... Whatever you have seems unique, as they are cupped(concave/sloping from outer edge to hub hole.. make sense?) Those above, Amer. Racing, like MANY aluminum same style are flat faced. I LIKE EM! lol.. find out if they're anodized or just painted.... that'll tell ya if they're pricey, hehehe.

 

I found a website on ebay called Wholesale Elite or something like that for a hard to find replacement rim one time. I will see if I can look that site up again sometime. I talked to them and they seemed to know the answers I was looking for at the time.

You know now that you mention it. I do remember the tire shop where i had the middle hole enlarged to fit my truck told me the difference between the nuts. And he provided me with the correct ones you speak of. That cone like nut that for a into the rims in an anglr sort of.
And my old next door neighbor offroad buddy also said i was lucky I got those rims cuz theyre better then his since he has steel rims. So you're right chef they are aluminum rims.

 

Tried out my grill for the first time today I made some garlic & herb seasoned chicken, carne asada, beans and some mixed veggies. So good. Will definitely get the job done for my offroad trips.

 

OH YEAH, especially for just up to 4 people or so. NO PROBLEM! I LOVE cooking over wood/wood-coal fires... Mesquite, etc., but it's not always easy in the time allowed, ya know? Other times, when there a couple days, the FIRE IS ALREADY GOING, lol... OR<> There will be one! lol. OF COURSE, you have to know your types of wood... IT CAN make you sick if you pick the wrong ones, lol. Well, GAG at least! lol. ANYWAY, my point was that sometimes I don't even need to put the wear on my grills like that one you got. And THAT is good! lol.

I got 2 Coleman stoves(one propane and one white gas) for 5$ EACH at the GOODWILL on PCH! lol. BRAND New! The white gas one was REALLY pristine, with a fairly new pump valve, etc. KEROSINE BURNS HOT, HOMIE! lol. It's nice to have a 4 burner out on the trail, too. MOSTLY, I do 'One Pot LOVE', lol.... Draws EVERYONE over like crackheads to the pipe! lol.... But I do often grill meats and do turkey in the dirt, etc., etc., as well. LOVE that part of the trip, more than the adventuring out at times... cuz YOU MEET PEOPLE WITH GOOD FOOD!
