I am planning on doing the downey 3" spring lift in the rear for my 86 4runner, and think that an inch or 2 in the front will even it out, because the rear sags a little now..
What should I go with in the front?
What else should i replace when doing this job?(Brake Lines?)
What you recommend for new shocks?? I am doing all four shocks..
I am on somewhat of a tight budget.
I am new to lifting trucks, and need some help.

 

if you have a torsion bar front(t-bar) suspension.
just torque her up a bit you might get an inch or so out of it and go with smaller bump stops on the top side to maintain some bound that about it .
I did a similar sus mod to mine 3"rear with about an 1 1/2 " torque up in front and as stated smaller bump stops.

if you were planning on cranking your stock bars, don't expect them to hold the height very long if you take it off road a lot, you will over-twist them and they will lose there resiliency to spring back, for shocks, because you are on a tight budget, go with the cheapest procomps, i got mine for $30 each

 

Can you explain how to do this mod to the front? Also, are there any other solutions to raising the front. I do go offroading about once every week or 2.

There are two large bolts underneath the truck where the torsion bars mount, near the transfer case crossmember. You tighten these bolts to pre-load the torsion bars and raise the truck. It's a good idea to measure between your front fender wells and your tires before you start and after you finish to see how much lift you dialed in. The adjusters may also have lock nuts on top of the bolts that you have to loosen first. Note that this modification will also stiffen your ride, and decrease the front end flex. You will not need new shocks or extended brake lines, since you aren't affecting the suspension travel. Be sure to have an alignment done afterward.

Another option is to purchase some ball joint spacers from Elripster (around $100). You will get about 1 1/2" of lift without affecting ride stiffness and front end flex.

my offroading frequency is about the same as yours JS and my trucks been set up like this for about a year and a half and I haven't lost any tension from the bars.
Due to availability and pricing out here I went with rancho rs 5000 up front and 7000 out back. I had the tranny out awhile back and had removed the f sway bar for accessability when I went back in I left it off as well.
you may gain a bit more flex but not any great amount but still better than none,just a suggestion
And don't forget the smaller bump stops they help with travel when you torque up.

Probably need longer shocks if your old ones limit droop. Brake line may be OK, but it can be replaced if needed. Adjust the LSPV (load sensing proportioning valve) for the increased ride height.

 

I have a 1st gen with a 302 5.0 ford motor.
Are there any differences in suggestions for my particular set up?
I'm actually planing on getting the bilstien 5150's for the front, but have not decicded on what to do for the back, i currently have a blown set of bilstien resivuors.

 

You should join us on the group buy for ball joint spacers here might still need to crank the t-bars a little, but it wont be as stiff.
