Ed when are those meats coming in man?!?!? I dig the old Ford and new rad. I got my aluminum ebay rad put in weekend before last. Need to update my build thread. Hope everything is good with you brother. Coming to Moab? I'll keep asking until you say yes...

Just been working and staying busy. My 4runner is down, needs a timing chain set replaced, I have the parts, just need to find the time. Now that I have the pickup, I won't feel so overwhelmed to get the 4runner done, I can just take my time, and get my new radiator put in while I'm at it. How have you been?[/QUOTE]
I have been good as well. Busy and now even busier trying to get ready for this World of Wheels show.
I did not know that your runner was down. Sorry to hear that. I understand how hard it is to find the time.

Chef you keep saying you want to see Ed and BBP in person. I guess you know what that means. Trip to Washington buddy! We'll show you a good time in the roots and the mud guaranteed! I'd love to see your truck in person as Ruby is the inspiration for my little red headed hooker.

I like your pics from the WOW show, you and your students have done an awesome job on that truck!
Yeah its still hard for me to get motivated it was nice and sunny out today, but was still cold, I can't wait until it warms up a little more! I did get a little bit of work done on the Runner today, I'll have a small update a little later.

So I've been doing some head scratching trying to figure out how to mount the Synergy hood pins that I got. They are constructed a little differently the other hoodpins, instead of the hood mounting plate just getting screwed down with sheetmetal screws, these use a poly grommet that actually goes through the hood, which requires a 1" size hole be drilled through the hood for the grommet to fit into, and then the pin goes through the grommet when you shut the hood. Instead of screws, it uses a hex headed bolts and a nylock nuts, so you have to be able to access them from the underside of the hood in order to tighten them down. Well every spot I tried to mount the hood pin to the core support the pin would have gone through some of the structural support on the underside of the hood, which would have required me to cut out some of that structure in order to have access to tighten up the nylock nuts. Here's a couple pics of the hood pins. If you look at the backside of the poly grommet in the second pic you can see how the grommet needs a large 1" hole for it to fit through.
^not to thrilled about using a hole saw on my hood!
This is what I came up with to avoid having to cut out a large structural area under the hood to gain access to the nylock bolts. I just used a piece of scrap angle and cut it at a angle and drilled some holes at each end, and bolted it to the inner fender and core support. I used already existing factory threaded bolt holes to mount the peices of angle. Then I figured out where I wanted the pin to come through the hood where it wouldn't effect any of the hoods under structure.
^^^ once I get it all how I want it I'll go back an paint the angle pieces so it matches better, either red or black. On the passenger side the battery was in the way of mounting the peice of angle, luckily I remember that the optima was sitting on a one inch spacer, so I removed it and lowered the battery down. I will have to go back and modify the battery hold down bracket that I made to work with the lowered battery.

I may do that, it would be easier.
Hey buddy. no I haven't worked on it lately, been sick, working OT, and just haven't gotten ambitious enough to get back on it. Hopefully next weekend!
Yeah Im curious to see them finished too, lol. I wish I had one of those dimple die hole flaring tools and a press, I would like to make a plate for the corners instead of just the piece of angle iron, I have an idea in my head of how I want it to look, just not the tools to pull it off.

Hood pins installed
Finally an update with pics!
^^^no turning back now!
^^^got the other angle iron bracket installed. I made these out of some scrap I had laying around, the bigger holes were already there, I may go back and make a new one for this side someday, im just runningreally low on metal scrap, so I couldn't get to picky, I will also eventually paint these red. I had to remove the windshield washer fluid reservoir to install the bracket. I may try to relocate it to the driverside.
^^^here's what the underside of the hood looks like. I would have like the hood pins to be located lower and towards the front of the hood more, but by going this route I avoided having to cut into any of the hood supports.
I'm pretty happy with the end results. I highly recommend the Poly Performance hood pins. If anyone else uses these, be sure not to over tighten the nylock nuts, just snug them down. Over tightening might cause the poly bushing to suck the hood down creating a dent. These are high quality, no metal on metal contact, and are worth the extra money IMHO. Thanks goes out to bump530, if it wasn't for him mentioning these in his build thread, I would have probably gone with a lesser quality set.

Got the radiator mocked into place today. I had to trim some of the grill on the inside to make the grille fit in the stock location. I'm going to have to cut out a little of the hood support so the hood won't hit the radiator cap and close all the way. In the 4th pic, I had a rusty old piece of 1" square tube, it will fit perfect beneath the original core cross support, I just need to find a longer peice, then I can bolt it in.
