More steering pump questions...

Today I went to try to find a bolt to plug off the port in the steering pump where the vaccum/air valve is supposed to go. I had a real hard time finding the correct size metric bolt to fit the threaded port but finally found one. But they only had the bolt in one length. So heres what I got going on. I bought a small O-ring, the bolt, and a nut. I plan to snug the bolt (red one in the pic) down against the O-ring then tighten the nut down against the steering pump housing. Here's a pic of what I'm talking about:

What do you guys think, do you think it will leak, do you think I should try putting some RTV on the threads of the bolt?

Are u sure that hole doesn't have tapered pipe threads? If so u should be able to find a plug at a decent parts store. Otherwise I would cut the bolt to the correct length a do away with the nut altogether. If u do cut the bolt take a grinder with a cut off wheel and grind a little chamfer on the end of the threads to clean up the end of it so it will start properly. Good luck ed, ur getting closer.

Another way is to put the nut on the bolt then cut the threads and then take the nut off, and it will clean the threads up also.

Painted my power steering brackets today. The factory Toyota ones are I painted silver. I ran out of paint, so the bracket I built to adapt the Toyota brackets to the 302 I painted black.

I have been tied up lately, was going to do a write up on my 85 installing the power steering on it and still haven't made it to it yet. My pictures of the other hoses didn't turn out to well. I can get those if you need them. The bottom hose off of the pump goes to the square metal tubing on the gear box.

Hey Ed just wondering if you're running a stock Toy fuel pump or a higher volume pump?

I pulled the stock Toyota electric fuel pump out of the gas tank, and swapped in the fuel pickup tube/screen out of my 85' Toyota parts truck, and I'm just running a mechanical fuel pump that was on the 302 when I got it, I'm assuming it's just a stock mechanical pump.

Thanks for the pics Terry, those came in handy! It's been a couple years since I took the PSP off, couldn't remember where everything went, lol.

POWER STEERING IS DONE!!!

Here's some pics. I was to lazy, I just used that bolt and nut like in the previous pic to plug off that air/vaccum port, so far no leaks. Test drove it, it feels so awesome being able to steer with ease!!!

^^^I might go back and add a triangle shaped gusset bracket just to make the idiler/tensioner pulley a little more rigid, there is a bolt hole on the end that I can run a bolt through, might be overkill.
