That 2 steps forward and one back applies to me as well. I would starve to death if I was making a living at it. For the past several years there have been several fires on the west coast. Doesnt seem like there should be much left to burn. I think I heard they said there was 37 fires up and down the west coast the other day.
When fabbing things up or starting from scratch, it is going to take some time. I always wondered why tv shows did so much assembling and disassembling when building things. I always thought it was a waste of time but I fullyyy understand now. lol

yeah its a good thing working on trucks is a hobby, because im way too slow to make any money at it, lol.
yeah there were a lot of fires in our state this year, people usually think of Wa state as to wet to have forest fires, but the eastern side of the state gets really hot and dry during the summer. It seems like they have burn bans every summer because of it. We had a small fire up by our place a few weeks back, luckily they caught it in time before it got out of control!

^^^ cut out the bottom tube, it was kind of a pain because the bumper has a bend in it, made it hard to get the angle cut just right...no turning back now!
^^^made a bracket that caps off the cut bottom tube and also mounts the bumper to the winch plate.
^^^When I cut the bumper, I was about an 1/4" off on this side, hence the gap, I'll try to fix it today.
^^^I think it will look better once a winch is mounted and occupying the giant open space, lol. Today I just need to remove the winch plate and finish up some welds, going to use my 240V stick welder for all the finial welding. I also have all the parts cut out to make a license plate holder that will slide into the front receiver tube.

Thanks Mark, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out too!
Thanks Chris!
I didn't get to finish welding up the winch mount, but I did get the license plate holder done.
^^^I was to lazy to roll out my heavy duty extension cord to plug my welder into, so my welds look like crap, but are plenty strong enough to hold a license plate.
^^^I wanted to give it more of a skid plate look, but I barely had enough 14gauge left to just mount the plate. Good enough, I'll probably smash it on the first obstacle I come to anyway, lol.
Thanks Chris!

Today I finished up all the final welding on the winch plate, some of the welds look a little rough, I haven't stick welded in awhile, but they got good penetration, I think it will hold up fine. I didn't get the winch mounted and wired up like I wanted, I might wait until I get the metal to build the frame reinforcement plate, otherwise I'd just have to pull it back off anyway. Right now I'm just using 1/4" spacers to simulate the thickness of the reinforcement plate so everything bolts up correctly.
I also made some little triangle pieces for the front of the winch plate just to give it a little better appearance, I think it gives it a little cleaner look.
