Aluminum.

Red, I could not do that job. Glad you can handle that stuff. Someone has to.

I can work high up building a scaffold but being in the room during a surgery would give me the willies.

reference to the Tag light.....
I don't have any pics of the wiring, but looking at the harness that runs to the tailgate, i remember just breaking out those wires to the existing tag light and putting and disconnect on, then running a longer lead to my new tag location.

That way they are wired up to come on with your running lights, richard.... and you can run them down and out the wiring loom grommet at the bottom/driver side, then up through the bumper and swingout.... Just leave some play for the tire swinging out a bit factor.....

Can't wait! Very great project!

I understand what you mwan Mark. But what I'm asking RBX is did you just grab the wires from the tailgate license plate right iff the actual area where you mount the stock bulbs. Or did you run wires from tire carrier light to under the truck and tap into some wires under the truck?

God I hope I'm making sense right now lol. Like your wires aren't just hanging there off the stock tailgate license plate area when not connected are they?

Look under your tailgat and follow the big wire loom, splice in the tail gate bulb there. Actually go in thru the cubby above it inside the bed so you won't have any corrosion issues.

bumper looks excellent and i like the design of the jerry can protector! awesome thinking!!

inside it you might want to pop a couple drain holes so water dont sit in it i know calif dont get much of it but...

wouldn't be hard for ya pull the drivers side tail light an inside look at the connectors the small bulb and the run light on the 1157 should be on the same line the other will be the ground (white/black) (test light time) tap off the live wire run it down through the drain hole or make one just under the taillight run that up to your license plate light

or you could get real adventurous and find the license plate light wire in the loom going right there on the drivers side of the tail gate an tap into that one

ya might need a ground depending on how well the pivot conducts but that can only be seen once youve got things hooked up

thats what he said..wait that was me.. HEY!

Sorry Will. It's just that wiring really intimidates me. I was just hoping to get a picture of how it was done.

RB, you mean tap into the Loom where I did for wiring on my rear panel lights, using the door lock detection wiring and so forth? In the panel or for before it enters the Tailgate?

just before it comes around an up into the tailgate would be the best spot

Ohhh sweet ok see now i know what you guys all mean lol. I'm a visual learner so seeing pictures of what you guys are talking about is much much better for me. :laugh. Thank you guys.

And talking about wiring look what came in today.
Talk about super quick shipping huh!

This is what i meant by making a lip on that license plate holder for the LED light. This is exactly how i want it. BTW yes it does have a magnetic back. but i want to use the clips to make sure it'll hold securely.

Thinking about adding 2 side caps what do you think? Probably more at an angle? i dunno. Didnt have time to pull out the welding machine today so im gonna have to hold off till tomorrow. Also, i'm gonna have to find some male/female wiring clips for these wires. i might have some put away. i'm gonna have to dig through my things here at home.

Hi Richard & guys!

Yeah, end caps are good. Keep the light drier.

For tapping into taillight wiring, you'd want to find the equivalent of this on your V6. Name: License_Light_tap_zps7a6a5af8.jpg

Don't tap near or where it flexes into the tailgate- more prone to strain. Cleaner & better to tap into rear taillight, from inside the left taillight cavity closest to your swing-away hinge.

Like Will said ^^(drivers side tail light an inside look at the connectors the small bulb and the run light on the 1157 should be on the same line the other will be the ground (white/black) (test light time) tap off the live wire run it down through the drain hole or make one just under the taillight run that up to your license plate light)

Better to to run a dedicated ground wire all the way back to the taillight cavity, than to rely on things that slide/pivot

Dragon and Ray. Luckily that LED strip is already waterproof. But I was thinking of adding those side caps just for looks. I'm thinking of tapping in to those wires maybe today just to have the wires ready for tomorrows bumper installation.

Also want to weld the light lip onto that license plate holder.

Yes tap the wires inside the bed area to avoid unnecessary fatigue. Then run them down the loon and out the bottom rubber grommet.

Richard, if you weld the light end will you be able to easily remove it if it fails? super bright LED's is great with customer service and they will probably ship you one before you even return one that goes bad... and it's very unlikely that it will go bad... but just in case??????
