I've read through your build, but can't remember if you said your spring choice or not. Are you using your stock rears and leafs added since you have the 63's out back now?
Just wondering, cause you might beat me to it and I have the exact same hanger and shackles you got.
Your truck's pretty BA, btw.

Sounds about like the general consensus to keep an sas lower than the kit's springs. Sweet, I'll be watching intently!

Get a flat pitman arm and shorter shackles. Dont be afraid of notching the frame for the drag link. Also make an anti wrap leaf for the top of the bastard pack. And extend the spring perch for combating axle wrap. Believe me it helps with having a long run between spring pin and shackle pin. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks 88! Good advise, I was planning on extending the perch.

Got the non essential brackets cut off and ground smooth and ran the knuckles through the parts washer to get the 28 years of grease off.

I second the spring perch extensions. And drill them so you can move the axle even more forward You can get another 1"-1 1/4" forward doing that.

Can't wait to see that Sky hanger on there... that's a nice one. I like Sky's stuff.... Take lots of pics!

No problem. Hey another thing for the front that works good for hard wheeling is progressive bump stops. Timbrens are awesome but money$. What I use in the front is 90-95 rear 4runner coil bumps. They look alot like timbrens. Careful though, they are super soft. So I would also use a harder bump for a stop point at full compression. Keep it low though. COG is key flatten belly and shorten wheelbase if possible. No need for the top axle truss. The axle bends at the knuckle balls. Ask me how I know The top axle truss just gets in the way of the oil pan keeping it low with the 3.0 and the 3.4, unless using different oil pans. But careful axle placement and good bump stops and notching the frame for DL and you should be good to go! I like your style with the truck. Keep up the good work. I love seeing some one that is not afraid to build something to just abuse.

They bend where you don truss them, so mine will be fully trussed. As for bumps, Im just using some TG ones that I have lying around. And with a 125" wheel base, this truck is anything but short, Ill only be moving the axle as far forward as I need to to keep it from getting any longer.

I slid the truss down a bit. so it touched the spring perch. It took a while only welding 1" stitches at a time, but I wanted to make sure I did not not warp the housing.

Trimmed the bottom perch so it wont hang up on things. TGs 84-85 ubolt flip kit came with 2 round and 2 square u bolts, but looks like it should have came with 3 square ones... ? What everyone else running for a u bolt in that spot right next to the diff?

Bottom gussests, one had to be trimmed to fit over the 85s longer bottom truss.

And the upper knuckle gusset. I added small pieces of plate to connect them to the spring perches. I also added a 3/8ths plate to the drivers side spring perch to bring it level to the passenger side perch. When doing this I made the plate 8" long instead of the stock 5ish to try to help with axle wrap, then boxed it in.

Using a square u-bolt next to the diff is a better fit than the round one. Looks good. You can always limit up travel with bumps.
I find that the progressive bump is easier on the axle than the hard kit ones.

Normal slow moving project update:

Extended the other spring perch to match, got the last piece of armor on and did a quick paint job.

I have JB weld on the knuckle balls to help smooth the pitting from the rust, Still needs a little more sanding..

Im in the process of a headgasket on an 03 Camry for my new DD , and as soon as thats out of the shop ill be able to roll my truck back in.

quick question for you... what shocks were you running on your ifs setup?? did you like them? are they the limiting factor in your ifs travel? as much travel as ifs has possible that is. im in the market for some new shocks, ive heard people using bronco shocks or samurai shocks that have more travel then stock yota's.. just wondering and good luck on the sas

I love this thread!! The pics of you off roading make me miss the east coast. They look like the same stuff I used to wheel and ride dirt bikes in when I lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Theres nothing like that around here in Iowa
