Got my frame finished up and painted. Welded some TG armor on the replacement rear axle housing.

I also bought a set of 38x12.5 15 TSLs..Ill need different rims though.

Hopefully I can start on the solid axle by the end of Jan.

Too bad those wheels won't fit the yellow matches your truck so well!

Wow, I haven't looked at this thread in a while. I've definitely missed a lot. I hope that IFS can handle those 38s

Rock the IFS 38s till the IFS falls off. What are you gonna so about the rear since a SAS won't let you sit that low.

I have an add a leaf if I need it.. but Im gonna make it sit as low as I can.

If I can get the 38 to clear the body with the ifs.. Ill run them for a bit. Hahah. But I need to change out the front diff still, and I think rather than change it, ill just cut it out.

well your IFS wheeling will be missed by ME
even guys that linked the front end after a leaf set up was hoping for a lower stance but it didnt happen and ended up taller lol
it has to do with the front hanger adding an inch

I am hoping for SOME lift. The truck is so long (123" wb currently) that I drag the belly over everything. So I am hoping for a few inches out of it. And I also just got a 03 camry that needs a HG, then its taking over as DD duty, so the 87 will be come the street legal IFS wheeler. Nothing major just 31-33s, armor and locked diffs. Simple.

Made this pretty quick out of my old rear axle housing. Its to press the shaft out to change the bearing. Homemade Toyota SST!!

Got the Idea here, http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/mainte...wheel_bearing/

After I know it works Ill clean it up and throw some paint at it.

I also made it into the 2013 Calendar on the Sept Page!

Nice special tool. Pelchuck and I made one of those too. We weren't smart enough to make it press the bearing back together though. Had to seek outside resources to put it back together.

What you really want is an FJ-80 front axle... Wider, bigger birf, stronger hi pinion, factory coils.

Yeah it sucks how most the trucks up here are mouse cemeteries.

A and W for the win man.

Is your 03 Camry the first year of the new spaceship styling? Does it have the 5S-FE? Is it a 5 speed?

Nice skids. Looks way cooler than smashed road signs.

I'm not sure about this? Links you can control your height really well look at crawl mag from this month that first gen is at stock ride height and on 42's. just saying and the front Hanger wouldn't effect links? And you can get a sas to sit fairly low. My truck sits alot lower then alot of people's lift ifs toyota around here and has close to the same ride height as my buddy's Toyota with the 4in ifs lift. And I'm on 37's where he's on 33's if he had same size tires he'd possibly be taller

What do I need to do to make it so I can press it back in?

Yes I know. But Im cheap

Yeah it sucks how most the trucks up here are mouse cemeteries.

Kills me. I think there is a nest in the blower motor of the 87 again..

A and W for the win man.

Isnt it the best. Mug can GTFO.

Uh, dont think so. Its nothing more than a commuter car. 2az-fe with a auto. The center head studs stripped in the block and caused the headgasket to fail. Should be a quick fix then I get a cheap daily driver.

Nice skids. Looks way cooler than smashed road signs.

The road signs come at a better price thought... Haha!
Hows the 86 coming?

the hanger comment was about leaf SAS. the 4inch bracket lifts on IFS is still taller than what rattlewagon's current ride is. it even taller than my Long Travel IFS set up. i just wanted to give him the heads up that is not easy to keep it low without sacrificing travel.

i just spoke to a guy going from his SA to link and wanted to go lower but didnt look like it was gonna happen. maybe it was the way he wanted it set up or what not.

Unfortunately the eightyoddsix is still in many pieces. No closer to being back together than it was six months ago. Pains me. Basically only needs 100 hours of fab/welding, mostly welding at this point.

Got the double trans flatish crossmembers fabbed up last I worked on it. Next it needs is the "delete optioned" frame plated and spring hangers moved back/up a couple inches, then the cage can finally get welded on. I tell myself it's all easy from there. lol.

Turns out having a family sucks up a lot of potential truck-working time. Only real expensive item it needs is Corbeau seats, about $550 for the pair. Oh, and that 34x9.5 that got murdered, that's another $290, and it really deserves a matching spare...

I've also gathered up lots of Subaru parts to add to it. Such as the fuel filter and mounting bracket, lots of fuel line clamps, various switches and pigtails to run the winch and lights, LOTS of bolts for everything. I sure am a cheap prick all right.

I'm looking for some "expired" 5-point harnesses out of a race car or something, if you happen to hear about some.

I found a couple FJ-80 fronts for about $650, not sure if that is cheap or not. I found a factory locked one for $1100. Both out of my budget right now, but when I'm finally sick of the IFS I know I'll scrape up the dough somehow. As abusive as I am I'd need a fully built regular mini truck axle, but I'm optimistically hoping that the 80 front end that's designed for a heavier rig will hold up stock.

I've only been all the way inside an FJ-80 front end once, and all I remember is how much beefier the knuckles are, and how much bigger the birf is.

Only bummer is the drive flanges that go with the full-time 4wd, which means worn birfields on the higher mileage ones, but I hear it's not a ton of work to make the mini truck hubs fit.

Do you actually have a press? Cause we only had a porto-power. When you press it back together you need to support the wheel bearing inner race while you press it onto the shaft. If you only support the outside of the wheel bearing (which is much easier to do) then the likely-hood of "denting" the ball bearings into the races is rather high.

We ended up making another "special tool" out of some steel tubing that the axle shaft slid into and was roughly the same diameter of the inner race, and was longer than the axle. We then welded said tube to a large chuck of 1/8" to hold it upright and brought the whole contraption outside, and set a chuck of steel ontop of the axle so as not to press on the wheel studs.
That was when brian fired up the excavator, and, uh, did what brian does best.

Sorry, no pics, but I'm sure you get the idea. I'm not sure if your excavator is large enough. What's it weigh?
