Yea most runners and trucks with any age on them have rust unless youve prevented it or washed it and kept it out of the elements. My dads 87 truck he just picked up is one of the cleanest untouched ive seen. As for the bug deflector i thought it looks kinda cool. Thanks for the info though.

As for the rust im undecided on what im going to do but those flares ended up looking like $hi! as i suspected

Hey wassup!!?? I was just gonna say thanks for posting that pic.

So you think if i get those supplies and some metal to tack in to back it up would be a good start?? I can totally devote garage space and time and drive my truck instead. Like i said before i was just gonna do one side at a time.

I don't blame you for wanting steel repairs. I was in a tight spot wanting to get the work done and Wolf sent me parts for a totally different vehicle. After I ordered for a '88 4Runner (since many can't wrap their heads around the difference in body styles between the '89 4Runner and pickup). Take a long look at front fenders and consider that maybe you can use the arch from a front right fender on the rear left arch and vice versa. Front fenders are cheaper than the Wolf parts that you will apparently have to cut and fit anyway.
Remember this thread, even though it's a second gen:

My runner is still idling high and after warmed up will surge terrible. I pulled it in the garage to see if i could fix it and found when i tap on the ac idle up valve that screws into the upper intake the idle would act up. I also rechecked the timing, and checked for any vacuum leaks. I did some research on the ac idle up valve and it seems they have a tendency to get hot and melt the plastic diaphragm inside the valve. I dont think theyre very expensive to replace so ill try and get one. Also im not running a vsv valve. Also something i found is that even when you unplug the tps harness it doesnt make the cel come on.

I have the 22re. Idle surges are so annoying. Ive been fighting this one since i rebuilt the engine. Cleaned the entire throttle body, set the idle set screw to spec (per 4crawler), Replaced the tps.Crazy thing is i have no cel on ever and yes it does work, even when the tps is unplugged still no cel.

Im gonna try and go back to the salvage yard today and exchange the CS144 big case alternator for a smaller case cs130 alternator. I wish i could find one off a caddy or old caprice cop cruiser for the fact they fit good and put out high amps. The one i have is off a 2000 chevy van that puts out over 100amps but the case tabs for mounting are clocked at 6 and 3 and need to be at 6 and 12. Keep that in mind if you plan on doing a gm alt swap. I really dont need the extra amps at this point in time but i already spent the cash on the bracket and wiring adapter. I have about $110 in it.

So i went back to the salvage yard to exchange my alternator and i was blessed by the owners son behind the counter to help me. I told him that the alternator i had gotten the last time was not going to work due to the mounting ears being at 6 and 3 and i needed one at 12 and 6. He asked what it was for and i give him my list of gm vehicles that would have what i needed. He came back with the same alternator that i had with the ears STILL at 6 and 3. When i explained again that the one he pulled was wrong he got upset and said that the last time i was there i had wasted his employees time for looking for what i needed. At this point i realized he was not wanting to help me. i asked simply if i could go back and look myself and he said no. At that point he just reimbursed my original purchase and gave me my cash back. I asked why, and that i still needed a alternator, (which they have plenty of),and he said i was wasting his time. WHAT A PRICK!!!I will never do business here again, and i feel sorry for the employees and other customers that have poor timing and have to deal with a POS person. I was really ticked off and still am and i will spread the word as quickly as possible about the service i got. It seems whenever your doing a special application that parts people turn into idiots and can only find someting based off a computer data base. What a dumba$$!!

Yeah I've run into that a lot, I miss the old days back when auto parts store were owned and run by Gear heads who actually worked on cars and that took the time to help you. I had a heck of a time finding the right throwout bearing for my 4runner. They ask me if I had a 22re, I was like I got a ford 302...lol.

One of these days I need to do the GM alt swap too, mine is barely cutting it when I turn on my old KC daylighters.
