kornhusker wizards 89 4runner build thread

ready to start in on this thing. 89 4runner, engines locked up, auto tranny w unknown conditions. bought it this way. evertything under the hood is untouched other than borrowing a tps and air flow meter for my 88 truck. frame is good. im focusing on the engine first. i have a shortblock .050 over with engnbldr internals. also has lovely red interior, yuck!!!! minor rust for being a nebraska rig. very straight, i beleive the tops never been off but not for sure.i have a 85 straight axle frontend but due to $$$ for a sas kit its more likely ill use bj spacers in front and springs in back.[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG][/IMG]

Great looking runner. Yours gave me some flashbacks on mine. The red/pink interior grew on me once you get it back to red again. On my 88 Runner build, on the first page, I show how I got rid of the pink interior. Looking forward to your build.

Looks like a good base to start with, less maybe the auto trans. What part of NE are you from? I was born and raised there but moved to TN about 15 years ago.

im from 50mi se of lincoln. yeah im not a big fan of the auto, i have a 4spd and two 5spd trannys lyin around, but i plan on using this as a daily, maybe mild wheelin for campin and explorin so i think i can live with the auto.

Sounds like your not far from where I grew up, I used to wheel with a club out of Omaha, a lot of those guys had yotas. I think the auto trans in these are probablyok just not a lot of power, not that they have a lot with a 5 speed. Your short block looks really clean hope it comes together quick for ya I will be following along.

yea painted the one i rebuilt in the 88 truck black. and i put the engnbldr stock replacement head with the crawler cam. Probalbly do the same setup here too. Theres a group of us here with yotas and we occasionally drive down the river. theres a pic of my 88 submerged up to the dash on my bros build thread, kelvinb is his user name. took a week to get it running right again. whoops

managed to get it out tonight.this is my first auto tranny 22re engine ive pulled. a little more to it than the manuals in my opinion. plus ac. couldnt get but three of the tourque converter bolts out due to the engine being locked up like fort knox. looks like it got hot due to coolant in oil. i was hoping to use the old head on the new shortblock due to $$$ but doubtful on the condition of it. well see what the machinist says. ordering a timing chain kit oil pump and gasket kit from engnbldr. i also want to eliminate egr stuff and replace the exhaust manifold with a header. Opinions welcome!!![IMG][/IMG]

pulled intake and left harness attached. much easier. drained oil, about 3 gallons of water came out, not good. broke off one head bolt, tried taking head off but its stuck. sprayed pb blast down head bolt holes, let it set overnight. i was planning on using this head til i seen the visual damage.[IMG][/IMG]
