kornhusker wizards 89 4runner build thread

I called Injector RX and talked with Chris and he said that since i ran the runner completely out of fuel it may have gotten some crap out of the bottom of the tank but i still think a new pump, fuel sock, and filter would have caught it.
HOWEVER im not going to lie, i didnt clean the rail out. but it hit on all 4 cylinders for days.
So anyways Chris told me that to never run a vehicle that has had a rust problem in the fuel system. So i am basically gonna end up sending them back if the injector is the problem. And paying again but im not letting it get me down.

So i swapped the #1 and #2 injectors and reinstalled the upper intake and the miss went to #1 cylinder. So i will be sending the injectors off again once i have time to take the upper intake off again...my sons baseball game tomorrow after work so maybe after that. If i recall on the paperwork injector RX sent me with the before after results #2 was the worst of the four.

10 run rule, my sons baseball team had them at 14-3 in the bottom of the third and they forfeited!!! Go A's!!! Then i came home and removed the upper intake and have the injectors ready to be sent off.

Sent my injectors off saturday to be cleaned and tested again to rxinjector. My boy started his baseball tournament tonight and they won 15-1 so i will pay another $10 for entry fee tomorrow night but its worth it when they kicka$$!!

Just getting caught up on your thread. I was unable to get to a computer for awhile. Another thing that can cause problems letting it run out of fuel is that the gasoline actually is a coolant for the fuel pump. I learned that one the hardway.
Glad to hear your kid is winning his games. They are fun to watch and the games come up quickly and they wont be in them for long before they are moving out on their own. I know we get tied up with their games but it is a blast watching them. Football practice starts here soon and this is the first year they will be involved in tackle football. Think that is going to be a shocker for them and then having to deal with the heat this year. I remember those days, Ouchh!!
I have heard of a noid light and am going to be searching for one, then finding out how to use it. Guess it is the only true way of seeing if the injector is firing or atleast getting spark.

Rx injector emailed me today as i sent my injectors off last saturday and they replied saying my #2 injector works when the injector coil is cold and when it warms up it does not work. My next question is, is to whether i find a single injector that will work with the other 3 or get a set. Im trying to get by of course as less $$ as possible. Brie also picked up her first bike, a 81 kz650 that ive been tinkering with. 4 carbs suck when theyve been sitting. Also i put together a 1991 yamaha rt100 dirtbike that i will sport on the 4th for my pitbike/gas propelled firecracker launcher. Anyways the runner is sitting under the shadetree wondering wtf is going on and why im not driving her.

In the Haynes Manual, page 4-2, it says the resistance on the injectors on all 89 models the resistance should be 13.4-14.2 ohms. If it was me I would just replace just the one resistor and try to find one that is in the range that is closest to your other injectors. In a perfect world it would be nice to just replace all of the injectors all at once with new ones, but that is an expensive world to be in.
Got a laugh from your firecracker launcher. I knew there was a reason for mufflers on motor cycles. Now I know what they are on there for.lol. I still like the 80s and 90s motorcycles over the newer ones. Especially the older two stroke motorcycles.

received my injectors yesterday, still need one to replace the bad #2 injector. Ive beeen busy working on bries new bike, got it running pretty good and took it out for a ride. It sounds pretty good at about 8500rpm. I better stop riding it before i break it, shell be mad at me.

The injectors went from spokane WA to omaha NE in one day!!The mail shows up in about 30min so HOPEFULLY they will arrive. Then i can install them and my upper intake and get back to where i was originally with the new engine. I still think i need a tps sensor.

Glad to hear your parts are on they're way. I've got to get off my lazy arse and get busy on mine. Good luck getting it back together man.
P.S. I will be up in your part of the country next month for my sons wedding.

Been a hot summer and no posts for awhile. My bad. But ive been busy and neglected the runner for awhile but i reinstalled the injectors and im hitting on all 4 again but i found that my tps is the wrong one which would explain the no power issue. I also need to see what the fuel pressure is. If anyone can back me up on this i believe my tps toyota part # is 89452-20050, the only thing that throws me off is that i thought 89 and later is that part number but when i look on ebay they list that same part number for 86 and up which 86-88 is a different toyota part number from my research. Im also baffled on a exhaust leak at the manifold to pipe with two circle type gaskets.I replaced both of them and sequentially tightened down the nuts and it still leaks. So (i know this is ghetto but i had to try it and i stacked two and it still leaks. Nothing looks warped or cracked either. It Pi$$es me off!! All summer ive been without on my runner and im still fightin it. I also aquired whats left of KyleB 85 runner no powertrain but axles and other usable parts. My dad also just picked up a 87 ex cab 4x4 with 104000mi and no rust or body damage that sat in a garage since 1996. Thats all i have for now...

The gaskets can be a real pain to get a good seal. When I get a good seal, I cut the pipe just to keep from seperating it and having a leak. The twenty five dollars is worth it to me.

Terry. I will definetly take up that option when i figure out the leak!!Thanks!!

Havent posted on my runner thread lately so ill update a lil. Im headed to st. joe missouri to pick up another 89 runner fuel tank with sender and pump for $100. Im still skeptical that some rust is still in the tank that may have contributed to the injector failing.hopefully this tank will be clean and he said the fuel gauge worked and the vehicle ran when took apart. These sending units and pump housings are hard to find so i figure theyre worth $100 alone. I also aquired a winch bumper im not sure what brand it is but it seems pretty stout i just need to figure out how the brackets attach because i got no instructions with it. I will also be getting another tps sensor and a starter to replace the one i robbed off it when my 88 trucks took a dump on me. I have probalbly 5 bad starters i plan on rebuilding eventually. Hopefully i get a new camera soon thats MINE and not shared with my girlfreind so i can start posting pictures again because everyone knows threads without pis suck!!! haha sorry guys no pics yet...

It is hot here as well and not much getting done. Just takes the fun out of it when all soaking wet. Soon I will be whining that it is to cold. One reason I coat the gas tanks as it does still leave dust in the tanks, no matter how much you take an air hose and clean it out.
A friend of mine thought I was crazy for keeping a fuel tank that we parted out of a runner and another truck. I used the runners tank and guess who used the trucks tank? He was glad I had it. I try to mention about keeping the tanks when parting one out. The tank, sending units, and fuel pump brackets will eventually get used.
I am about 3 hours south of St.Joe but have been there many a time. You arent by chance getting the tank from Jacob13 https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f198...31/index2.html are you. Here in Missouri, there arent really a whole lot of Yota owners around here for the older trucks.
I have heard there are two different TPS and just recently learned that. I have just lucked out not needing the other part number. I wonder if the different part number is for the newer trucks.
Replacing the contacts in the starters isnt bad, but if I recall right the other issue that can cause a bad starter can be about as much as a new starter.
