Thank you sooooooooo much terry. I am going to read through that link as well that you posted.

Where I am at now is:

The window goes up and down but only with the key in the tailgate. It will not work from the switch.

I have swapped in other relays, one behind drivers seat, and still no luck.

Swapped out the actual switch in the console and still same result.

I actually did the ground wire addition as per your advice a while back.

I had the cover off of the rear wiper assembly yesterday and the rear arm retract switch in there just does not look right to me. It almost looks as if there are pieces missing from it.

I will get a pic of it today. Its hard to explain. Almost looks like the plastic post just has a 1 wire connector on it. And the switch is moving but i cannot see how it is opening or closing a circuit.

Thanks a million Terry!!!

Chris.. So far so good with the furnace. Worked good all night.

Did some more house keeping with the runner today while I had the time.

I was having some trouble with the cable that releases the latch on the drivers side of the tailgate. It was hung up and not letting the spring pull latch back into place allowing that side to lock.

Here's the culprit.

I ended up soaking the crap out of it with some wd40 and then silicone grease I had for brake calipers. Worked really well and now slides nicely in the housing.

I also decided to grease up the gears and basically everything that moved. Name: 42F70B7A-9E54-4FD4-8D9D-B86C8C819F51_zpsdlxu4vki.jpg

I took some pics of the switch in the rear wiper assembly but am going to have to clean it up and make the photo brighter before I post it.

Still looks like it's missing something.

Mark, I have a similar issue with my rear tail gate window too. There is a ground or some switch in the back that if I pull it back the window works. I'll send you a picture tomorrow.

Nice work on the tailgate, I'm going to have to get in there and grease all my moving parts one of these days! Bookmarked the last page, a lot of good info, I need to get my back window operating again before summer, it used to work with the key in the tailgate, had to push in on it at the same time, now it's not working at all, figure I'll try to troubleshoot the wiper motor and defogger at the same time, but It's too cold to get motivated right now, ...maybe if the window was stuck in the down position, lol.

I love these 1st gen runners but I must say I really dislike the tailgate. That's the only thing I wish I could change about it.
If I had the money, I would just get a soft top and forget about using the window all together.

I hear ya on that. I've been reading some DIY soft top build threads and am convinced that I can build my own for a fraction of the cost of a Can-Back. I've been putting together a price list of materials and think I can keep it under $400, which is still a lot of money, but it would be worth it just for the cool factor that you could say I built that myself, plus how often do you come across a good condition soft top on CL for cheap!

Sorry for the hi-jack, hope you figure out the wiper motor!

I wouldn't mind doing a DIY softop. I did come across a used one here on YT for a great price, but I hesitated and didn't buy it. Totally regret it now.

No worries buddy. She works with the key on the gate.

Hope we get some snow this time around!! Looks like you guys are in the 8"+ range for accumulation today. Its supposed to hit hard here around 2pm this afternoon.

Hopefully there will be snow piles to climb.

I one time found a thread about doing your own soft top, just cant remember where I found it. I will see if I can find it again later on.

2nd gen runner cables are an exact fit and an upgrade if you ever come across a set of them for our first gens. Just a better built cable.

My key switch for the tailgates don't work as my keys are so worn so never tried the ground wire trick on the tailgate. One thing I am eventually going to do to help keep dirt and grime out of my center console switch is to extend the harness from the console and mount it under the ashtray. There are slots there that I believe would hold the switch and give it better protection.

I am not doing any work on my trucks as well as it is just to cold. I am so ready for winter to get out of here.

I was reading a thread yesterday on how a fellow member on here used a Soft topper from a Ranger and or an S-10. He had to make minor alterations to it but it really looked great when it was finished. Said he picked them up used off Craigslist for 200$$ So I have been keeping a lookout for one.

I am ready for some warmer weather to get here also. I hate the salt all over the vehicles this time of year.

So My rear window works and works good but only from the rear gate key switch. I have the ground extended from the front switch, tried replacing the switch all together, tried replacing the relay, Double checked everything like the topper screw switch, holding up the wiper arm to contact the switch, and can only get the window to work with the key in the gate.

Now if I remove the ground from the front switch, The window does not work at all. Really trying to get this figured out so I can use the switch instead of getting out to use the key.

Also, My rear defrost wiring is not hooked up to the defrost on the glass. Could that be causing my issue?? I wouldnt think so, but who knows with this whole setup.

Thanks again Terry for all the help. Let me know what you think.

Most likely the rear defrost wire that connects to the grid in the window is rusted away or broken off. It wouldn't keep your window from operating. Neither of my defrost work because the cable is just gone and what is left is broken.

Can you hear your relay behind the drivers seat click when operating the switch? I think either your relay or the switch is bad. First I would try and take your switch apart and give it a good cleaning.

You will need to take the light bulb out of the switch first to get it apart. Then carefully separate the covers. The little piece of metal that toggles and contact the switch probably has that green corrosion on it as well as the little post the toggle contacts. These switches get dirty.

After cleaning your switch, see if you can hear the relay working. If not, I would bet you have a bad relay. I have found a link to rebuild the relay but I have never tried building it myself with parts from Radio Shack.

If you are suspecting your relay, check the bottom link for Radio Shack parts. Here is some notes I have kept that might help as well.

This is going to be my notes page for the window switch.

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f128...runner-137310/ Link I found for 89-95 Runners.

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...arWindow.shtml This page says you can get replacement relays from Radio Shack. I will evetually try it on my old one to see if it works. Would be alot cheaper way to go. As soon as I can get some relays, I will post the results an how to solder/desolder. It is easy if you have never done this before.

Thanks for the info terry!! Always a huge help and very informative. I am getting a known "good" relay from Chris (kornhuskerwizard).
After I read what you said about hearing it click, I couldn't recall ever hearing it. So I double checked and it does nothing when I hit the switch.
