OUCH!!! i wish i had more free time to give you a hand installing them.... no pun intended.

my cousin has a plastic tint paint he's used on taillights and such, it would work great on that housing. nice job on the mounting! though i don't know if i could cut into a trekker body without some kind of guilt!

debating about filling in most of the rear area where the original lights are and converting to these LED's. Getting harder to find stock lenses cheap and I have busted at least two per side.
Opinions are welcome

4 junkyards today I finally found a good front driveshaft to use to convert my rear driveshaft to CV and have it retubed..hopefully be able to drop it off tomorrow.
TrekkePaul also hooked me up with a steering wheel and a tilt steering column dirt cheap. My horn only working intermittently and my tilt column cam engager thingy broke last year..sucks not having a tilt
Thanks Paul!!

still debating rear light options:

figure with the amount of rear fiberglass work i need to do on this thing I might as well upgrade....just can't decide to go with the clear on the left or the traditional red/amber on the right....

yeah still don't know what I am gonna do. Better corner protection is definitely a must. I want to do a partial rear exo but need to get the thing running again...
Looks like I am gonna sell my extra trekker back half back to TrekkerPaul so he can make a 2WD trekker so my spare parts will be nill

I hear ya Al, but some time when you are over I will show you what a mickey mouse system Winnebago came up with for mounting the lights.
3 sets of bent steel that you need 3-4 hands to hold in place while one person tries to use a screwdriver...reaching up under there is a pain in the butt.
Lenses and housings are starting to get expensive to find and I have gone through a couple of each in the last three years. Advantage to the LED's would be availability and ease of repair.
Garage sale this weekend to hopefully get some cash to get this thing back on the road

finally some good news
Got some good news finally on this thing. Had a garage sale this weekend and did much better than I expected... sold my tube doors on Pirate, some stuff on ebay so I can hopefully get this thing fixed and on the trail again.
Jim (Dovegray85) recommended a couple of shops to me.
Took my rear third to Robb's (cool place
) Off Road in Clackamas-they took a look at my rear third set up and settled some worries for me...set up in fine, just need to dimple the pinion nut. Awesome customer service--no charge to check it

that saved me $200 so maybe a winch is closer in my future
He also recommended Brian at Driveline Tech and fabrication He said that he had great service there. Dropped off a CV joint and my bent shaft, he said come back next week to pick it up. A couple of other toyota guys were there at the same time
Did some wheeling and dealing with TrekkerPaul this morning too and picked up a new radiator and a passenger side door. Door was a little rusty so while I was cleaning that up I was looking at the hinges and got to thinking....what if I did this:
cut out a strip on the hinge that would allow a poor man's quick change hinge:
stock upper P/S hinge on left, modified upper p/s hinge in the middle, bottom p/s hinge on right:
just have to back the door screws out slightly:

Door is off the truck but you get the idea:

tighten with your 12mm wrench on off you go
I had tried drilling out the brass bushings on one set of hinges on my tube doors for pins, that worked fine for the tube doors but with out the brass bushing in there with the weight of a full door it would kind of droop a little bit.
I would love to get a set of Adam's @ 4xinnovations hinges but he only has them available for '84-'04.

wow, are you buying stock in first gen doors?
i have done the same with FSJ widetrack front fenders because usually they rust out and get cut off.... so i keep all the nice rust free ones. someday i'll cash out to all the rust belt FSJ owners and retire.

rear driveshaft
well nothing major but got a step closer getting bqck on the trail.
Picked up the new rear driveshaft this morning:

new one is got a CV joint out of an 90'ish 4runner. fully retubed, clearanced CV, balanced and new joints etc...should help some of the vibration issues
spare driveshaft on the bottom.
had to order some studs for my spare case, should be here friday than can throw the cases in over the weekend....
only 2 out of the spares are what I would call in good shape. most of just good half door candidates

soon to be 5 speed again

--did you trade the Jeep for the 2nd Gen truck?
so my forward speeds are gonna 20 again instead of the 16 I have had

picked up an L-52 that is in surprisingly good shape, has some nice paper gaskets on it that makes me think it might have been rebuilt at some point>
new one(out of an '83) on the bottom, old one on top (L-50 stock '81)

the shifter is nice and tight..it even has a shifter seat bushing...my original shifter retainer was so rusted in there I never got it out until the transmission went out

I wonder if the Penny helped the new one seem to be tight
new on left, old on right

I am starting a kitchen remodel(my wife is under the impression her kitchen is my priority
) so I am hoping that I can squeeze in time(she will probably win
) in the next two weeks to get this thing back together in time for the Oregon YT Trail Run in July....

Hey Al: figured I owed you a pic of some of the doors:
Figured it was time to swap out the munched door. Took one ttahat I got from TrekkerPaul. It had some surface rust so I cleaned that up and used some self etching primer on it. It started out tan, thought what the heck. I always kind of liked the Desert Tan, Camo brown color. Gave it a couple of coats to see what it might look like...I kind of like it...

the clear coat on the Trekker is pealing like crazy...dunno
oh yeah...it's back on all fours at least..
