Ruh roh. Thats no good. I dont know what I would do if I had to do emissions. Here in CO anything above 9000ft is emissions exempt.

If I lived outside of the Portland Metropolitan area it would be fine. Part that sucks is the truck runs great, tons of power etc --failing for High Hydrocarbons.

I like this idea!!

Yep, put a new cat on last month. Didn't take it back through DEQ yet, I can only get two 15 day trip permits per year so I want to have the carb available to throw on as an option. Truck is running pretty lean. Engine has an unknown amount of miles on it, it might end up needing a rebuild. I should do a compression check in the morning just to see where I am at there.
I am setting aside money for 37's, would rather have it go for tires than an engine

I was an idiot and waited too long getting my transmission back in and only ended up with 3 weeks or so to get it through emissions, for some reason I had it in my head tags were expiring in June, not april...

thought about registering in Vernonia at my in laws, but not worth the hassle.

I hear ya there. I would hate to an engine over tires. Having the spare carb is a good idea. I hear ya on the tags. My truck hasnt ran since like March and when the time to renew tags rolled around I almost forgot. I ended up gettin them on the last day of the grace period. Thank god cuz it would have been like $20 more to renew the tags, which are expensive already at $69.75
I think mine is going to be around 110 for two years...if yours is per year, that would be pretty spendy..

They are good for one year. They use to be thirty something two years ago. Thanks to our wonderful politicians they doubled for "highway improvements". We have yet to see the improvements haha.

Both of your tags are cheap. California charges around 100 for 1 year, plus it's about 70 every two years for the Smog test...
For some reason I thought you had already converted to EFT. Why are you going to a weber? Are they really that different from a stock carb? I'm not sure they are even legal here.
Last time I had to get mine tested it failed for hydrocarbons too. Turned out the ground under the hood for the computer had broken so it was running, but the computer wasn't compensating or adjusting anything. It cost 150 to have it diagnosed then they wanted 30 more to put a new crimp end on and re-attach it to the engine... I took it back to work, fixed it and went to retest. lol
Your truck is looking Great!
Good Luck!

I will have to check into the ground as a potential issue. since i am limited to such a short window on the trip permits I want to have a few bases covered in case it fails again..almost to the point of do I really want to keep dumping $$$ into it. I would really use a pick up...I would love to build a 3rd gen X-cab..The thought of parting out my truck and using the suspension, gears etc on a new build have crossed my mind...

Started doing the poor man's dyna matt sound deadener:

Figured 3 years or so with out a gas pedal was long enough:

Hope to have the carpet in today.
Trying to make the truck a little more daily driver friendly,
Even found the faceplate for the stereo:

So that means I am gonna have to pick up some speakers. Thinking about doing the usual 4" in the door.
My steering wheel is in crappy shape. Stopped by TrekkerPaul's after church yesterday. He had a steering column with this thing attached to it:

According to DC is it probably an 81' ish Celica supra mk1 steering wheel.
Slides right on

Sadly, I know the feeling about considering a new build with current parts. Your truck is lookin good and it shouldn't be that hard to get it back to fully legal.
That's wierd that they limit your number of permits. In California we can get as many 1 day permits as we want, but only up to 3 at a time. Or we can pay money for a longer permit...
I'm Jealous, I need to do Dyna mat or something in mine too.
Good Luck, I know she'll pass soon and be back on the road!

thinking about a chop top...kind of
thanks Jeff
..haven't used the stereo in almost four years...pulled the speakers when I put on the tube doors and never got around to putting them back in...
THanks!
I bought an extra trekker back half a year or two ago and it has just been sitting out at my parent's place. THey kind of want it out of there sometime.
TrekkerPaul might buy the tub. The top is not in that great of shape.

I could use a pick up at times so I am thinking about using the other top and making a mini sleeper cab since I have an open back...

I suck at paint but thinking of using the extra top and doing something like this:

or the easiest would be to just glass the two sections back together:

I would still have the regular top. just kind of playing around with ideas...
I would need to have a removeable rear cab wall that would allow room for the 4 upper bars of the cage...
probably find a small boat or RV window to put as a small quarter window..
this thing was on craigslist locally last year...I should have bought it but the guy didn't have a title:

so finally placed the order for my carb this morning.
After PM'ing Toyospearo and reading what Ducatipaso had to say about the Weber I went with the 32/36 DGEV kit from Weber Carbs Direct:

it should be here Tuesday...
will also be using this thread as a model for removing the extraneoous BS..will save all of it just in case..
here is what I am hoping to have mine look like after swapping carbs...of course the ultimate goal is to pass emissions:
eventually I would like to swap to a larger Air cleaner, though I do have a stock Air cleaner assembly that was modified to be used with a weber..
