me too, thanks
i understand
Thanks Zach
I think the slice and dice on the top is going to be more straight forward than i thought..especially now that I am not going to try to keep the factory windows. I have two people that want to buy them. I just need to find the replacement windows first but that is proving to be a bigger challange than I was hoping..
thanks...

If you don't want the windows to open why not just make them out of lexan? I've seen many people do it and be very happy with them. Looks fantastic by the way. That departure angle is awesome.

i was looking on craigslist and saw this canopy for sale in longview. i think it says one of the windows are broken but the frames look about the right size you are looking for and its cheap. http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/pts/2752223918.html

i actually would like to have sliders again, just to let air in. Lexan is an option but I really like the idea of a frame. for the prices of used canopies it seems Lexan would come out about the same cost.

Synthetic Rope Fairlead liner
I don't even have my winch yet
but when I saw Rory's thread for a liner to protect synthetic winch cable I thought it was an awesome idea..$26 shipped to the door..awesome

now I just hope Santa brings a winch to go along with it.
Thanks for the quick shipping Rory

Man, that overlap and cut idea is genius! We used that for the famica in our kitchen. And the counters are perfectly fit together even though the cut isn't perfect. That's a good guy to have around, just gotta love that latteral thinking. :-)

Thanks guys..
I picked up a bunch of 1x2 today to build a subframe to hold this thing together for the cut..should be able to pop the windows and start on the subframe tomorrow afternoon..might start the cut friday.
I was hoping TrekkerPaul would have found some alternate windows, he wants the one piece windows...

Got a little time to work on the top today.
The bottom of the top had a crap load of butyl tape/adhesive still:

Soft ball anyone?

Got the windows out,

Built a frame out of 1x2 strips to help steady the top and keep it the right width:

Started the cuts:

The framework seems to be doing it's job.
I can flip it over now, not at flimsy as it would be with out it.
Just have to undo a few screws and can slide it forward...
Hopefully be able to make the real cut tomorrow and maybe start layer of glass but with Christmas this weekend have a lot of misc BS to take care of..

..spending quality time with the kids..TinMan-thanks, will give the thinner a shot. Got most of it off with a heat gun and putty knife. The thinner will probably do the trick for the residual stuff..

Dreaming about this stuff is what makes people come up with things. There is another local trekker owner who bought my old extra trekker back half and wants the section I take out of my top to stash just in case he decides to built a long box Trekker. It would be pretty cool.
Not much of an update but picked up a set of sliding windows at pick n pull today. Too long but I will cut the frames down to about 38" or so.

There were a lot of cheap canopies last week that would have had perfect windows but was broke...
Hit TrekkerPaul's used parts emporium for a 2WD grill. Mine was toast and saw a truck on pirate with one and thought why not:
