They look to be round head bolts so you can't unbolt from the outside.

I used flat head garage door bolts, nothing for anyone to get a grip on.
Went thAt route so I could cut the head to fit around the latching area.

made a padded armrest for my poor man's security console

certainly not professional but it will help elbows from getting whacked really back while out and about.
cut the handle off:

used some padding from an old headrest, some wood anchors:

ended up with this:

need to pull it apart and paint it with some Crapoleum Hammered paint or something.

I'd be afraid of someone not busting the lock but unbolting the angle iron...

If there into your truck that far and they really want something that bad there not gonna take the time to unbolt something. There just gonna rip it apart. That is a good idea to keep an honest thef out for sure though.

so not much of an update...no cash to buy a weber carb...been busy getting the house ready for a graduation part for my oldest...if you have kids...they grow up WAY too fast...spend quality time with them while you can

anyway got a great deal on some amber LED turn signals so that will help solve my dilemma of whether or not to try to use a trailer converter to convert a single light to be both the brake/turn/ tail light. They put out a ton of light:

Tentative idea is to fill in stock upright tail light position (just used a piece of card board to block the existing tail light) and move them down just above the bumper.
for something like this:
flush mount

FLush mount with each light having a 4x8 box tubing guard:

not sure if I am gonna use the clear stop/tail light lense with the amber or go with the red tail/stop and amber turn

they are both the same size so I could swap them out. I am debating about moving one of the clear lenses up top to use as a third brake light.
I would have loved to have gone with a set of clear amber turn signals, but the amber lense LED's were free, hence the great deal...

the rear swing out tire is going away...a friend of mine did have an idea to mount the lights under the bumper and bend another piece of tube to act as a mounting surface/guard..not sure if I like that or not, but it would allow me to keep the swing out as an option

Is the clear lense even legal to drive? What about 2 red and one amber like original and then no converter for the blinker. I like the placement. Weld those pieces together witha backing plate, build a mount to attach to the rear bumper and you will be in like Flynn.

Hey Paul: I will just use one red one for tail & Brake light and the amber for turn signals...will find another use for the clear lenses. Maybe a third light at the top of the canopy and use the other one if I build that sleeper style cap out of that extra top.

will flip a coin to see if I flush mount them into the fiberglass(kind of what I am leaning to) or pick up some flange light mounts and weld them to the rectangular tubing and that to the bumper.
nothing happening anytime soon...Oldest is graduating Saturday and have a ton of family coming in this weekend....

subscribed.

on the lights (my thoughts)
-anything under the bumper is more likely to get knocked off. ask me how i know
-red lenses on the sides and a clear tbl looks good imho
-tail lights/turn signals mounted on the tire carrier, perhaps?

^^ lights would be mounted above the bumper, just not sure if I will use the 4x8 rectangular tubing for an additional guard or not.
I thought about using them on the tire swing out but I have pretty much decided to eliminate the rear swing out for now for a couple of reasons
1-visibility with a 35" spare sucks..tried a reverse camera and still never trusted it, been driving too long and still look backwards etc..
2- the hinge kit I used is a trailer axle style forget where i got it but there have been multiple reports of this style hinge failing...I don't want that liability. I even went so far as adding a 3/8" piece of cable as some extra piece of mind should it fail.

what I want to do is like 4Crawlers design, only round tubing. With two hinge points and two locking latches it would be very secure...this is a down the road plan, kind of like my 37's or 39's and 2.7 Taco engine

or maybe i will be able to modified my existing hinge to something like this:

not sure, lots of options out there...

traded an extra transfer case and set of doors for these

need to figure a spot to mount them, maybe:

cash for the weber I want would have been nice, but these will do nicely..
DIRTCO had some on his old truck, granted he had 4 but it still will be an improvement with low amp draw compared to H3's:

Nice lights.
I like the rectangular blinks and stop lights mounted low on the bumper, and couldn't/wouldn't the clear be a good reverse light? Or did i not read that the clear gives off red light?(its early and my coffee hasn't kicked in yet)
The only apprehension i would have about mounting those LED lights on the back of a vehicle that sees regular or any road use is the limited visibility. Meaning, a vehicle needs to be almost directly behind you to see your intentions...stopping....turn signal. I had the same issue with an aftermarket integrated turn signal/brake light setup on my bike. So i added a few LEDs that fired out left and right for higher visibility.

i think i saw you have a nice fender mount blinker. My concern would be the brake light, and running lights. Not a critical as on a bike IMO.
Build looks great!

i'd be cautious about mounting the lights upside-down like that. if they're sealed, go for it, but if not, they might get water in the case. (speaking from personal experience)

however, i like that location for the lights . looks like it was meant to be there

RBX-good point about visibility, I can use one of the clear ones as a third brake light. I have a turn signal mounted on the side of my fender just ahead of the door.
Though finding a dual function (marker/turn) light might be possible.

Irab88- you point was well taken, been there too with water getting in where it didn't belong. I could have a bracket come off midway on the stinger.
You got me thinking so I went ahead and took a light apart. Surprising they are actually sealed pretty good.
An o-ring around the bulb wOuld be good and maybe a little silicon around the wire exit and one of the rings.

I also plan on double nutting the mounting bolt, possible drilling it and using a castle nut and cotter pin to slow down any oxygen thieves.
Nice thing is these thing only draw 3 amps so I could add one or two more down the road and still run them off the same switch/relay.
Maybe bump up to a set of the 7" lights. Who knows...

This can be done pretty easily with a relay using a standard marker or blinker with a single fillament, let me see if i can find the thread around here. IIRC, it was used on a 4Runner, and using the front park lights as blinkers and markers.
