Al: thanks for the offer on the cores, but I think I got lucky and found some online for about $75 each with a $36 core charge:
http://www2.partstrain.com/store/?Nt...&N=0&x=25&y=12
that puts it much cheaper than what I have found locally

due to my work schedule I can't pick the truck up until monday

Talking Cage is In

by the time I got home last night and dealing with other stuff I was too beat to work on painting the cage so here are some shots of it while I was painting this afternoon:

wivey is gonna be PO'ed I cleaned out the left over wrapping paper to use for masking paper

Pain the butt to paint with the top on but taking the top off and resealing was not a project I want to tackle today (yes--I will pull out the 'Stock' roll bar)

Yes the cage is tied to the frame in 4 places in the bed + the cab area, not much point of having one mounted to a fiberglass bed:

will post up some more when the paint dries and no wrapping paper

cage shots with out the masking crap....rear bar is a little lower than I would have liked oh well:

gonna have to get a brush and some old fashioned rustoleum to paint the two cab bars by the windshield...PITA to get some paint in there

oh and driving with the 5.29's is just awesome
double low 2WD 5th gear is way slow

Looks great, but I liked it better with the wrapping paper. It really softened things up, and added a very festive look.

I want to see some pictures of this beast wheeling!

I'm pretty sure that you covered this...

But did you go with an internal cage purely for aesthetic reasoning? Sure will be a shame when that cage is needed and you ruin a gem

^ It's better to have a cage and never use it, then to not have one, and need it once.
Especially when wheelin with family.

I am in no way saying that a cage is a bad idea

It just seems as though from the aesthetics side of things, having an exo cage is better than a smashed trekker with an interior cage... but that's just me

its about time!

looks like some real good work, i am also surprised he didn't keep the rear bar higher. but it will only take one head ringer before you always remember its that low.

i gotta get a good wheeling day in before i'm back to the overtime grind.... lets get it on the trail!

Al

Yeah I was hoping that rear bar was higher too. But the way he explain it to me, it kind of made sense that even with blocking the fiberglass (did not remove the top) that the glass was heating up. Either way I am just happy to get it done.

I have to bleed the brakes saturday, put the passenger seat back in and a couple of misc things. Maybe I can meet you on Sunday afternoon...gotta go to church but will probably be free after 1.

stock winnebago cage is a POS

well finally pulled out the stock winnebago "roll Bar" and that term is used loosely:
I think it is made of muffler tubing, I could bend it by hand, very thin:

plus it is anchored poorly, 1/2" bolt though a 2" square (thin) tube across the underside of the fiberglass bed and not tied to the frame AT ALL:

plus mine was rusted out on both ends (not that I trusted it anyway)
