Question My 3vze doing weird things

Last night I started up my 1992 4runner with a different 3.0 in it, it has not run for a couple of weeks, the 4runner has not had a running motor in it for 8 or 9 months, it broke the crank and well its junk to say the least. Anyways put a different motor in it and when I started it, it shook, clanked and banged off and on for a couple of minutes, after a few starts and shut offs and checking alot of things out, the motor came out of it. Is it possible that the computer had to get use to this motor???? I have no idea here, I've never seen a motor do things like that, and it did not do it in the previous
4runner, or I would have never wasted all that time putting it in.

were the motors the same(4x4 or 4x2 drivetrain)? did you have to transfer parts or sensors? kind of sounds like spark firing order. if all of the old sensors were swaped from your OE 3.0 or they were the same the new motor should not need a new ecu or computer. check the ecu # on the other 4 runner and compare it to yours. how does the dissy line up with TDC on the crank?

How sure are you on your vac. hoses? I noticed you askin' the other day. If ones leaking, or you got a couple crossed and at the wrong port, it might try runnin' like your sayin'. Mine did.

I will not make any promises, but I pretty sure all the vaccum lines are correct, they were wrong on the blown motor, but i did not do that, I have alot of pics and numbers to go by.

But the motor did smooth out, that is my concern, if things were messed up wouldn't it keep running ruff??

It is 4 wheel drive, both motors are, the sensors were swaped from the old motor to this one. Top dead center lines up fine. I timed the motor at 5 degrees, it that enough inital timming?? I did not check the ecu numbers.

I did not mess with anything but the motor, never took the trans or transfer case out or unhooked anything.

A tiny vac. leak, from a hose or around a gasket/seal, might do that. I'm not sure on the timing deal, just know it's sposed to end up 10 degrees. Some say thiers runs better with more like 15. Or could be EGR valve, now that I think about it. Maybe not closing all the way, this wouldn't effect how it runs when warmed up. Somebody mentioned cleaning thiers (EGR) with something, I'll see if I can find that.

A reputable source, 4Crawler, recommends, in a post I dug up, cleaning the EGR valve with a pistol cleaning kit and solvent. Should it need.

I had a motor install do this on initial startup and then no problems. I chalked it up to air in the fuel lines. Never gave trouble after that.

I would be willing to bet that you forgot to plug your MAF sensor back in or its something related to it. Especially if it sounds like its coughing and sputtering and running real rough and then stalls. You sometimes can keep it running if you get on the throttle right away.

I have swapped computers before and they fire up right away and purred like a kitten so i would say its not the computer.
