3vze torque problem

I have a 91 toyota pickup 3vze v6 and i have no power until about 3000 rpms. When I'm in 1st or 2nd gear it's a slow acceleration until 3000 rpms and then my torque jumps up a lot. Once I get into 3rd or above I have absolutely no power. Any tips or fixes?

That's pretty much how the 3vze runs. Below 3000 is for level cruising or coasting only. When you want to accelerate or go up a hill you have to get the rpm's up. I seldom upshift below 4000 rpm until I've reached my final speed.

Thanks I was just being sure I didn't have a throttle body problem or so forth. And I'm hoping to toy around with some things to get some more bottom end from it

Whats it timed at... Ive found bumping the timing to 12 or 15 helps a lot. Some run more advance than that.

I'm not sure what my timing is set at because the guy I bought it from did modify some parts of it. But I'm 99% sure it's factory offset

Sure? How?

A timing light is $20 http://www.harborfreight.com/xenon-t...ight-3343.html It's one of the first tools you (should) buy. And your symptoms sound like a timing problem.

(Read the manual for how to check; you need a jumper to set it to base timing)

Thanks for the input y'all. I advanced the timing to around 12° and it cured my problem for the most part

The issue might also be with your transmission from what you are describing.

Are you gears shifting normally or are they slipping?

Does your gas peddle operate fine or does it stop at a certain point where you do not have alot of speed? If this case, it might be your detint cable that runs to the throttle body to the transmission.
