Hoods have two latching points. One is the safety catch that keeps it from flopping open all the way. The other is the final catch, which is what you release from inside the cab. My guess is that the final catch is not catching. If you look at the corners of the open hood you wiill see some plastic screw things. Screw those in or out until your hood works properly.

Alternatively, your in-cab hood release could be broken or the cable could be sticking. Look into that.

sounds like those rubber/plastic bumpers on the sides of the fenders need to be adjusted. i would also clean and re-lube your latch to make sure it's got smooth operation.

That's the purpose of those "plastic screw things" in the corners (not of the hood, but below the hood where it just about touches the front rail). If they are screwed IN too far, even though the hood is properly latched, it flaps up and down. Carefully screw those posts out until you've just taken up the slack.

My guess is that you will find those posts have just gone bye-bye, and that's your problem.

having adjusted hundreds of hoods, those rubber screw things are so you can adjust your alignment height with the fenders. Don't use them to adjust the tension on the hood. You need to move the latch to do that.

Take off the latch and move it out of the way. Close your hood. check for proper alignment with the fenders (using the rubber screw things and the bolts near the firewall) Once the hood is aligned well, THEN you can install the latch and adjust it up and down for proper tension. Enough to just latch is all you need. if you have to slam it, its too much and you can damage your hood.
