sloppy locker

I have a 94' 4 runner auto trans v6.I had a powertrax locker installed in the rear and it seemed kind of sloppy. When you put it into gear I hear a big klunk. We pulled the 3rd to check to see if it had loosened up but it's seems tight.Tranny ,t/c , r/p and splines are good(no bluing or shavings) so ,I'm thinking the springs in the locker are'nt holding tight enough, any suggestions?

Sound to me as your backlash isn't set correctly. Have you checked and rechecked it?

sloppy locker

I should have mentioned that I put about 4k miles on it.If it is the backlash then I'll have to wait until I get out west, cause no one does it around here.

Thanks

if you have a lockrite, thats normal, there is allot of clearance between the cross pin and the locker

Try a wear pattern check on it and see if the gears are meshing right.

As nerve rattling as it is, it is pretty normal for a locker to klunck alot. I can not speak for powertrax specifically, but those types of lockers are usually noisy.

locker

There no wear patterns on the gears or locker. After numerous phone calls , re-pulling and checking everything else,I'm gonna have to go with "superjoe83" and"phorunninduke".I drove this to Co.and Wyo.with 800lbs of gear, spent 2 1/2wks 4wheeling with no trouble.I guess the truth will be told when I tow a trailer loaded.Again, thanks for all the input.

live277--- I think that clunk you have is normal......my old 1999 TJ with auto with SoftLocker /456 gears did the same clunk.
Most recently, my 87 Runner 22RE/auto/571/Detroit SoftLocker does the same BIG clunk.....even chirps the tires sometimes putting it in gear at idle. You might try turning the idle down.
