Tried out a bit of the Niagra Rim Trail today, since I was in the area anyway to do some fishing. I didnt want to push it since I was by myself and nobody knew where I was, and the bald tires were really sucking. So I turned around after about 1/2 mile into the trail. I would like to get back out there with others soon, it's a sick trail!

good job there stockwell, way go - get some dirt on that rig "nowhere out hill" - i like the name!

dude, your tires are straight done for. if i were you and ate through tires like that, i'd think about going and picking up some of those $500 craigslist specials until there's money to upgrade to selectable locker and gears. GT Radials are the one's i'm thinking of; they're basically just a basic MT design like the old KM and the Destination MTs, etc. sure they're cheap, but they're new and have have lots of tread to chew up. downside is, they come from China. i've seen 2 big ford f-250s in my neighborhood running those for over a year and those trucks can't be nice to those tires. i dunno, something to think about since you seem to put a lot of miles on your rig.

btw, i've got nearing 20k on the Duratracs i put on the cruiser and they've only worn around 4-5mm (1/8"+). E-rated 285/75/16 and my rig weighs around 5500lbs. That's my experience with them, can't say about others.

Ive been saving up for new tires for a while now, so I should be able to get some new ones here in a few weeks. I definitely blame my locker, It comes out as soon as my new tires get put on. I'll be lockerless for a while, but I may actually be able to keep a set of tires for over a year. Judging by the Kassube bro's tires and Swimmerboy2112's tires, I'm sure I can get a good 40k miles at least out of a set of new KM2's if I'm not running a constantly locked rear end. I really want to give the KM2's one more try.

BTW, those Duratracs are sick! My dad runs those on his wrangler and he's at 50k miles with about half the tread left. If the KM2's dont seem to cut it, I think I'll go to those.

word. good to hear about your dad's experience with the DTs. i haven't heard of any feedback on them with so many miles yet. looks like mine are wearing pretty good as well. they're just a great hybrid tire IMO. KM2s are great tire also - i run them on my RC Crawler, hehe. i run the Toyos my truck, but in reality all the big name MTs are great tires and all have their own weaknesses.

you can find the 3rd member all day but you would need to modify the axle housing cuting 1/4 x 3-4 inches out of one side ( just a estimate dont hold me to it ) lol

Its a love/hate relationship with my auto. I love it when I'm on the rocks, but overall I'd rather have the 5 speed. It's just a huge hassle trying to swap with our gens, so I think I gotta put it on the back burner until I'm ready to tackle all of the work.

Nice rig! how does the rear aussie handle on the street? have you ever being with them in the snow/ice? starting to mod my GFs 97 runner and need some input.
Also have the KM2s in my TLC and I'm not impress by them, no siping so performance on snow/ice is not the best and they get loud after a few thousand miles. They are an all around "OK" tire IMO, the duratracs on the other hand, are very quiet, great on the snow/ice, and perform good even in mud (not being an aggressive tire).

The aussie is an awesome locker, has saved me more times than I can remember offroad. But it is absolutely terrible on the street. I am removing it next week because it has eaten my tires away so fast. If your GF has a manual transmission, it wont be a problem since she can clutch in around corners. But if she has an automatic like me, it will constantly be locking up around sharp turns like in parking lots and dragging the inside tire around, wearing out the tires extremely fast. If you really have your heart set on a locker, go with a selectable locker. I'm gonna be getting an e-locked rear axle that I will swap in in a couple of months, you can find them for about $600. Definitely recommend the aussie locker, but just not for a DD.

I really want to give the KM2's another try because I think the locker destroyed them before I could give them a chance. A few of my wheeling buddies have them and are wearing extremely well - they have nearly 75% tread left with the same miles as my bald tires have. I think I'll give the duratracs a shot after the KM2's since I keep hearing nothing but good things about them.
