If I remember correctly tacos have a grey wire and 4runners have a blue/red wire.

Consider yourself lucky. I tried this using the stock harness (with the wires cut) and a taco ECU. On top of that my harness's wires were cut too far back. I just gave up. Really wish I still had the whole stock setup in my rig, but it was taken a long time ago....

Christmas came early I bought a JDM field monitor unit from a Hilux Surf yesterday, cant wait for it to get here and get it installed.

Wiring it up to get it to work correctly should be interesting. It comes in grey to match grey 4runner interiors, so the first thing to do is to paint the housing to match my oak interior. The end result will look like this:

Those field monitor units are awesome! I wonder if they'd work in a Taco...?

I don't see why they won't. These come in sunroof and non-sunroof versions. I imagine the headliner shape is the same in the Tacomas as they are in the 4Runners. One of these in a Tacoma would be sweet, I doubt anyone has ever done one before in a truck.

Yeah that's what I figured. I think those FMU's are awesome. I don't have to get the non-sunroof version as I don't have a sunroof. I've never heard of anyone putting one in a Taco. It'd be cool to be the first.

Where did you get your FMU from? I'm torn between the 4Runner FMU and the Subaru FMU that fits under a single-din radio.

I got it from this guy, he's sold a few of them over the years.

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f180...ometer-245810/

I've been waiting a couple years to get one, it seems nobody get them over state side very often. Sometimes you can find them on ebay too, but they can go for $300+ there. I like the subaru versions because of the units are more understandable for us, But if I got one of those I would have no place to store my sunglasses. Either one is way cool, but one in a Tacoma would be downright awesome since you would probably be one of only a few in the world with one installed.

I'm gonna send him a PM. No doubt one of those would be awesome in a Taco. I guess it's gonna come down to whichever one I can find first will be the one I choose to install.

Finally got it here and installed. Was more challenging than I thought it would be, but it all worked out in the end and everything is functional. Took me about 5 hours to complete, some of the steps I followed from other threads did not work for me and had to figure out things for myself.

It broke after my girlfriend at the time wasn't wearing her seatbelt, and I had to slam on the brakes. Her forehead met it at a very high speed lol. I prefer it better with it gone actually.

Dude, you have an awesome rig; I like where you're going with it. I have spent the past 2 hours looking and dreaming! It has inspired me to say the least!
