Guy made me a fare offer on my 86 awhile back, had to really think about it but I'd have kicked myself forever if I had let it go.

Just read the whole thread as well. Love this 4runner man. Makes me really, really miss mine--especially since you've got a pic of it on the first page of this thread...it's the silver one with the roof tent opened up. (Linked the pic again below for good measure.)

$12k with @230000+ miles on it? Wow. Just wow. I mean, you've got a ton of mods and time in it... But I sold mine almost 2 years ago for $12500 with only 110000 miles on it...and tons of mods, just like yours has. And my truck was CLEAN. No dents or anything. I kinda just wanted out of it though so I could get a 1st gen double cab Taco (which I am finally picking up next week barring any catastrophes.) I def shoulda just held on to it and waited out for more like $15000 or so. LOL Oh well. I think I woulda took that $12k and ran if I was you.... LOL

PS - I now live in Bay Area and would love to come out and explore out your way once I get my new rig dialed in a bit.

Thanks Ferg! I always did hope I would stumble upon you someday on these forums, seems like very few people throw those tents on the roofs of 3rd gens, at least I rarely see them. I keep saving for a tent, but as soon as I get close to getting it something comes up and the money needs to get diverted elsewhere. I love your old 4runner! And you are definitely right, it is a beauty!

I would have loved that $12k in my pocket, but it would have killed me to see my years of hard work drive away from me with a new owner. Even though it was a great offer, my 4runner isn't exactly as clean as it used to be. It's nice to know somebody out there liked it enough to throw that kind of money down though.

Definitely shoot me a PM if you wanna explore some trails, I'm always ready! If you haven't been out this way before, it really is a must see part of CA. Lots of amazing trails and terrain.

So as of right now it looks like there is a very good chance I will be moving to Colorado, Wyoming or North Dakota in the fall to work in the booming oil industry in those states. They are hiring like crazy and the pay is way too good to pass up. The only problem is, these oil towns have very little housing. My best bet is pulling up a house trailer or buying myself an RV to live in for a few months until I can find myself some place more permanent to live. Since the 4runner is my only vehicle, it will be coming with me. If I get a house trailer, it needs to be big enough to comfortably live in for a few months at least, but small enough to pull behind the 4runner. If I get an RV, it needs to be big enough to pull the 4runner behind it. I've heard many different answers on how to properly flat tow an automatic 4runner, so I'm a bit confused on how I would go about doing that. Should be an interesting next few months, I need to depend on the 4runner more than ever now.

nice. got to go where the moneys at!! how much money you looking to spend. you would need a pretty decent size RV to pull the runner. i think all you need to do is remove the driveline. dont use a quick disconnect. heard bad things about them. with a RV you kinda have two vehicles vs one. its a tough one. i do want an RV sometimes lol. maybe because my 3.0 wont pull a big enough house trailer up hill for me to live in.

At this point, money isn't too big of a deal. 10K could probably get me a pretty nice RV. I'm not against the idea of a trailer, but the 4runner with its stock gears and all that weight really makes it sluggish. Pulling a big trailer a thousand miles wouldn't be fun. But definitely looking forward to making good money! I've heard of guys my age with little experience making 100K a year out there! It's hard work but its worth it to me.

10k would get you a real nice POS RV... You're looking at 30-30k for a decent used RV with minor repairs... Remember, these things are houses on wheels and not cheap...

I'm not picky whatsoever, I'll be perfectly happy with some POS for a few months if need be lol. As long as I have a roof over my head and a shower I'll be happy.

The heads of the screws have since been covered up with JB Weld, and painted black.

Haha, I figured the same thing about mine! I would have gotten a Mammoth Brewing Co instead but they didn't have this type of opener. Where did he put his?

Dang! I hate straight up copying ideas without variation, but the bottle opener location is perfect. I was kickin' round ideas for a rear bumper mount but the swingout is where it will go. I will call it 'The Stockwell Mod'. Nice work!

Thanks! It really is the perfect spot, I am constantly sitting on my bumper eating and drinking anyways, and its always within reach. I also like how its not normally out in the open for everyone to see. So by all means do the same thing!

I fixed my motorcycle, so I am able to use that to commute with now. So for the most part the 4runner sits. Trying to start it after it sits for a few days, it takes much longer for it to crank over, and when it does it stumbles, runs very rough at abnormally low RPM's for about 10 seconds, then picks itself up and runs fine. Probably time for a spark plug change, but something tells me it's more than that.
