So I took one of my favorite local trails today, and afterwards I couldn't get my E-locker to disengage, it was frozen in the on position. I got it home and couldn't hear the motor running at all when I hit the button. I pulled the motor off the 3rd member to free it up manually, and found this.

The sway bar managed to rub against the actuator so much that it completely wore through, exposing the electronics. The sway bar sits about a half inch away on flat ground, but that obviously wasn't the case when I was on the trail. So the rear sway bar had to go, and I did my best to patch up the worn spot on the actuator with RTV.
Pretty simple to free up the E-locker, just pop the motor off the diff, and push this gear from left to right to the position it is now. Must have been gummed up or something because it works great now.

Oh, and just randomly happened to look at the odometer during all of this, and this is what I saw. Girls getting old!

..goal was when replacing both CV's back home, to remove the front diff and replace my leaky oil pan. The 12mm allen bolt on the front diff had me stumped, as no stores around here had an allen wrench that big. So all I could do was replace the CV's and call it a day.
He used a 12mm headed bolt with a double-nutted shank that he put into the thing and then just used a ratchet and socket to undo it all. No pics but if you ask him he can show you since he has family up your way.

FWIW Shane (NorCalBorn) showed my boyfriend a really sweet trick last week for this sort of thing.

That is awesome. Congrats! When this originally posted, it had a pic of a really sweet camp site, rather than your certificate. It still said, "time to start fabbing" and I was thinking camping trailer, rooftop tent, cargo sleeper etc, etc.
I can't wait to see what you do with those skills. I should do the same. My limited welding skills are from books, and videos. I know there is so much more!
Great work! What is the first project going to be? Mine was an oversized creeper with big wheels...because I could. Mostly for practice welds, but didn't want to waste anything. I call it 'Super Creep'.
Congrats again!

Well I've been thinking about building a motorcycle carrier for my dual sport, but it's gonna have to be long enough to clear my spare tire. That's a lot of leverage, but I talked to a guy with a similar setup and it worked fine for him, so hopefully I can build something for myself. All these places I go I always think to myself how cool it would be if I had my bike to also explore around with, I'd definitely like that to happen!
I'm hardly ever on YT anymore. I'm always up in the mountains for work, and my off time is usually spent fishing or camping somewhere up there. No time for my laptop these days it seems...

4runner has been racking up the miles lately. I have done several day trips and a couple one night trips over to the eastern sierras to stay at the cabin for fishing and exploring the great mountains. My motorcycle finally blew up on me a few weeks ago, so the 4runner is once again my DD and only vehicle. Which sucks because I won't be putting any more mod money into it until I get myself a new bike. Its great to be driving it so much again though!
Found some pretty neat trails around the vicinity of Mono Lake, near my cabin. As well as some great fishing. Here is my most recent trip up to Dunderberg Peak, on an old mining road that got up to 11,500 feet on a very sketchy shelf. Aside from the pucker factor of the constant fear of the shale rock giving out and falling down the side of the mountain, it was an awesome experience.
Unnamed Lake, at about 10,000 ft.

View into the Hoover Wilderness at the top of Dunderberg Peak.

The cabin is somewhere down on the shoreline of the lake, I was not able to see it, even with binoculars.

Heading up the shale switchbacks to the mine. Super scary! These pics don't do the scenery or the steepness justice.

What a weird place for a mine.

Back down...the dropoff just a few inches from the tire. Just taking this pic made me almost sick

Beautiful view of Bridgeport and Bridgeport Lake to the North

Will be going back soon for more exploring.

Yeah, I'm totally with you on that one. It just sucks that place is so far away from everyone I know, but the area is awesome

Got offered 12k the other day for the 4runner. I told the guy I could never sell it, but I just hope I made the right decision. It feels like I did, but 12k is a lot of dough...
