I have a feeling LC axles do not have a directly centered rear diff. I could be wrong though. If I am, that would be cool and I'll have to read up on if anyone has done it.

landcruisers are not a direct swap. not to mention they're like 63.5 WMS. and itll stick out like 2 inches both sides.

I think the only way the springs could have stapped is that the bolts were torqued on too tight on the carrier.

^^^ Good info. Also after poking around a bit it seems the lc axle is offset on the rear just a bit. One guy was going to put a lc t-case in so take care of that (he was also using the lc front axle for an sas) but sold it before ever making real progress. Some people say you can use a 2 piece drive shaft without any problems. Also some people cut the housing to the same width as the 4runner and take is all out of the long side. The lc axle is wider and much heavier. So overall I think it's not worth the extra effort unless you really want rear disc's.

well the FJ80 has rear discs, full float and its e-locked. not to mention its a 9.5 diff. So its a very strong upgrade... the only hassle is shortening it.

I have 80 series Cruiser axles under my 99 and it was good bit of work. Check the link in my sig if interested.

It was your build I was thinking of, I just couldn't remember if they were offset or not. If I had the money, I would definitely go the route you did. So cool though! It sure stinks being a college student without the best job.

Which would be retarded because my tranny would wear out.

Brian, Don't let this worry you, I would get an aussie if that's what you have your sights on. I'm the only person I've ever heard of having the springs shear on. And with a manual you arn't even gonna know the locker is there on the road.

Troy, locker is long gone. That bad boy sold within a half hour of me posting it up.
Totally forgot you had an automatic, that went right over my head. Ah that explains a lot though.

Looks like I will be picking up an Aussie soon, aside from you all I have read is fantastic reviews.

Thanks mokai!

I scored an E-locker housing for $40 yesterday, had to drive all the way up to Grass Valley to get it though. Came with all the links too, so now I have extras if I break anything.

While I was there I made the quick jump to Sacramento to hang out with some long lost friends. And I got to try on a 35 they had in their garage. Totally dig this setup and love the rim, these will be my next socks and shoes when the 33's wear out. It will only take a little pounding to make them fit at full lock when stuffed.

I'm thinking new 33 BFG A/T's on painted LC rims like the pic for DDing, and 35 BFG KM2's on the black wheels for wheeling trips.

Elocker coming soon! I might be buying a car tomorrow, but if not then I can get started on looking for an elocked 3rd immediately.

I'm hoping to fit 35s on mine some day, they look good on yours. Good luck with the elocker hunt.

haha oh my god. Lucky you. Now order some 4.88s and a master rebuild kit. You'll have a brand new diff with 4.88s

Inchworm has everything you need to get it functioning, all the wires and gaskets and the skid plate for the the locker motor. If you want a cleaner wiring setup I think 12voltguy has a cleaner setup, buts is more $$$. there might be a few more options out there but these were the only two when I swapped my elocker in.

Edit: they also have those studs you were asking about

Locker is in...what a PITA that was. Mostly because all my rear suspension is old and wore out and I'm sure everything is a little tweaked from all the wheeling.

Here's what I started with

I swapped all the axle studs with button head allen bolts. I've heard of peoples diffs actually pulling out from the housing under high stress, so these will prevent that from happening.

All torn down, pretty much wore out by this point lol

The new setup. Don't mind the crapload of RTV...shortly after sealing up the diff, I realized I forgot to put the oil deflectors back in the axle. So I had to open the whole thing up again and put even more RTV on. It was a blue nightmare.

Eventually my brother wandered out of the house to help me out. Then friends started showing up randomly. They stood around with beers in their hands for a while, then they eventually helped reassemble everything, which I am really thankful for.

Managed to strip two bolts on reassembly, a sway bar bolt and the bolt on the center of the pumpkin that centers the e-brake cable. I'll deal with that later. Drove it around the property a few times, everything seems to work ok so far, locker engages properly. Brakes still need bleeding, but that's a project I'll save for another day. Just glad it's done and everything works the way it's supposed to.

I know exactly how you feel, man... reading this post was like deja vu. You and I have had some very similar couple of days haven't we? You had me laughing with the mess of blue RTV. I had a feeling I would forget to re-install those oil deflectors myself, so I made a point of setting them where I would see them and taking pictures of them seated properly inside the axle... that way I could look back at the pics and say "Yeah, ok, they're in there!"

Glad to see you got it installed and everything works as it should. I'm sure you'll be glad to have a locker in the truck again.
