I would NOT be able to keep up with you! These days I'm doing a kid pace unless it's just me and the dog and even then 15-20 min miles. Your legs must be a blur! That's why people are giving you funny looks! All they can see is a floating head and body with some weird blur thing going on underneath!
(Wish I could move my getaway sticks that fast)
Mr. Prissy Pants wore his coat, shoes and jingle bell collar. Without the shoes he starts limping within a minute on walks. Ice balls! Running out in the yard, that's no problem. He comes in after 5 or 10 minutes and I dig a few ice balls out of his feet.
I'm not surprised. If a single stick-tite gets stuck to him all forward motion must stop until the offending burr is removed. It'd be annoying if it wasn't so funny.

Two years ago I struggled to do 18 min miles for any distance.....then with some miles under the belt the times have crept down. My goal is 10 min miles for at least 10k. I can do two mile bursts at 11, but average 12 min miles for a 10k now. The locals on my street and the nearby farmers just wave now at the 5'7" guy with the fluorescent shirt motoring along. I'm sure they think I'm crazy. Oh, well.
Oh, to be a puppy in the snow.....he has a great life.....

Crazy awesome.
The 96 has got a small coolant leak somewhere, I think. Slowly disappearing coolant, no condensation in the oil cap, nothing on the ground, but I see some on the skid. When the temps warm up a little and things dry out it's next on my list of things to chase down.

Hope the coolant leak is a simple hose fix that is easily identified with dried coolant crust.
.....and today's snow report is????

habanero, for the past year I've been following and copying portions of your build thread for my own '96 SR5, and I may now also follow in your footsteps in one more regard... I am considering a second 4Runner...

It's nice to have 2, hrt4me, but your wife might get the itch...
speaking of itch, I've got one to see what you've been up to. I'll try to be patient and maybe I'll get lucky enough to poke at it this spring. I am indeed intrigued!
Honored you've been able to get something out of all this, that's what it's here for!
Merry Christmas to you too, Chef, and Happy Holidays to all!!! This weekend rain with a possible change to snow near the end.
PS. Chef, your truck looks delicious.

I ended up passing on that built 4Runner, even though my wife actually urged me to buy it, and I have the money...; I thought it would be a deal, and I thought I would buy it, strip it of parts, and then sell the remainder to my buddy, but he and I both decided against it after looking at it together. I like the ARB rear air locker and associated OBA, the Detroit Trutrac LSD in the front, Safari snorkel with pre-cleaner, BudBuilt skids, dual batteries, Cobra CB and Yaesu 2m/70cm dual band, ARB fridge in custom rear cargo storage area, Dick Cepek wheels and skinnier tires with 231mm 13WL TBU, but it would have been a lot of effort to swap those parts onto my own 4Runner, and my buddy suggested the 4.88 gears were probably better left in that 4-speed automatic transmission rather than in my own 5-speed manual transmission, so for now I'm sticking with my '96 SR5 with 5-speed manual transmission and factory rear E-locker with 4.10 gearing...
I hope to visit you and the MO4WD club sometime in the Spring!

Hi Hab! Happy holidays and now winter to you and yours. We start the day here at 52f. Winter???? Still no ski days in the books....I'm getting grumpy.
Any luck on finding the coolant leak?

I KNEW you had something hot going on!It looks amazing even without all the choice bits to come. I thought you got pretty lucky on the front bumper. How are you going to avoid windshield and possibly hood glare with the light bars, or is that not a problem comparedto, say, my KCs would be if they were that far forward?
Mmmmm, truck por.......well, can't wait to see future pics and it live and in person! Share early and often.

I still need to do the TBU with 231mm 13WL calipers, but I'm just not sure yet whether or not my current wheels will fit/clear; I do not want to run wheel spacers...

It's a better fit with less cut and paste = good thing.Way to notice! I flew out to Scottsdale last week for my annual mecca to fly in helicopters and fire guns at static ground targets, and EdmundGTP just happens to work for my host, so we spent some time looking at his 4th Gen 4Runner with WMW roof rack. I essentially plan to copy his dual Hanma 13.5" LED light bars, and in fact, Ed also pointed out (both in that linked thread and in person) that he needed to address their glare...
Also, helicopters and guns sounds awesome. Okay, too loud and I don't like being too far off the ground unless I'm in a tree, but in theory.....
I did used to enjoy shooting at the shootin' car off my Cousin Jimmy's back deck. That were fun.
Well, the split-spoke and Landcruiser Rims will not work without either spacers or some grinding, but the Taco snowflakes (like on my 99) clear fine. 5-stars clear, from what I've read. These are prolly things you already know...it seems to me that the 5 star and such are flatter across, whereas the split-spokes come in a tad. !/4" spacers gave me about an 1/8" clearance with the split-spokes. Tire rub on the a-arm was a little bit of a problem even with the 1/4" spacers. Frame too, though less so. You've prolly heard all that before a few times.

My daylighters work because of the length of roof that catches and blocks the glare from the windshield and hood. Can you emulate something along that line with a small metal shade, just enough to keep the light off where you don't want it? I think I've seen something like that for the KC lites, maybe check that out and design from there? Bet you're already thinking out something cool, would love to see it when you've got it figured.
Now where again is that photo of you in a tree?

BTW, are you heading out to Colorado and/or Utah again this season?
I have the itch to head out west somewhere when the snows start to thaw and the passes open and begin to explore...

Notice that even in a tree I am ON THE GROUND!
You're more than welcome to bolt your wheels on my 4Runner, we can pull the spacers without issue or use the 99, they've both got 231mm...your wheels sure look promising.
Going to Colorado and Utah? Of course we are! We're talking about hitting the Maze district again this year too, but nothing solid yet. We went out middle of June this year- too soon for the Passes I wanted to do. July 1st and later is your best bet on the taller stuff, it all depends on snowfall amounts and when they can get the plows over the passes.

you may recall my wife and I went to Colorado this year at the end of July, but I did not have the 4Runner when I dropped her off at her women's retreat in Winter Park and went on to hike Long's Peak and explore Rocky Mountain NP and Glenwood Springs
I plan to take the 4Runner this year, and we want to hike Maroon Bells and then revisit Ouray and drive the passes; would you agree late July/early August seems to be an ideal time to go in terms of road and weather conditions?
BTW, my wheels are Eagle Alloys, but I'm not sure which specific model; they came with the 4Runner at time of purchase in September 2012... along with my current BFG All-Terrain T/A KO 285/75R16 tires

It was a good lookin' truck back then and even better now.
We used to go that time of year all the time, it was the timing on the garden that altered our schedule. Personally, I think that's the best time, any time between then and Labor day. If you're camping frost on the tent is still a possibility, depending on where you are. Afternoon storms are a given, so get out early and you'll be fine. Personally I think I'll stick to doing Red Mountain and that area in the dry (Ouray/ Silverton) and make sure you hit Mineral Creek (wet ok on that trail). I did it when the 96 was stock though it was easier now that the truck is built a little. Red Mountain, Hurricane Pass, Engineer, Cinnamon, California....it's all good. I want to do Imogene (I think it's called- Edit: messed this all up: Telluride (not Boulder- what? Am I nuts?) to Ouray-ish) but it was closed last time we were out. Make sure you have maps or books showing you where to go, it saves a lot of worry.
Brown Bear in Silverton is the place to eat. Not as good as it used to be, but still pretty good.
Oldie....you got that right!
Maroon Bells are worth the hike up to the lake (not the one at the parking lot). We spent the night up there (not long, but strenuous). The next day we got pretty far up before there was too much snow and we turned around. That was also worth the hike. Totally. Completely. Would do it again. We went out of season. It was crowded, but we were able to drive up to the parking lot (apparently during heavy use you have to take a shuttle unless backpacking and a reservation is recommended to get a camp spot, there are only so many) so it wasn't as bad as it gets during peak use.
Did you hike the loop that had the falls and all the lakes when at Rocky Mountain?
