Hi Terry! The weather's been mostly amazing for February, hasn't it? You've been getting a ton of stuff done but not much has been happening over here. Will be ordering a timing belt kit mid-month probably, still futzing about with the clock, little junk. I feel like something should be happening but time and budget says otherwise.
One of my co-workers just got a stock '00 4Runner and is pretty excited about it. He's apparently been drooling over mine all school year but didn't know who it belonged to. Who knew my truck has a fan club?
Walking up to the 96 in the parking lot inspired a pic or two because can.

Coopster, I've already told him he's got a good base to start with, agreed about the sun roof/rear window awesomeness and together we got the disbelieving exclamations over mileage from the non-toyota crowd. We're 4Runner buds.
Not sure if he'll pick up a wrench, though. ???
Was at the boneyard today and found a newer style 3rd gen center console with the extra little compartment. Bought the lid and compartment for $5.
The hubby's 99 has the extra little compartment atop the bigger one that is in the center console. I want that.
Getting the lid off is easy. 2 screws for the hinge, then lift up and forward, then out
Here is the older style console lid (grey, at the bottom) and the newer (tan, at the top). The pieces pop apart after removing all the tiny screws. I did this because the tan lid is
a) ripped up
b) the mounting is different between the lids so I couldn't use the grey lid with the tan lid's bottom part. Was going to swap the vinyl bits but the grey, while it remained intact, didn't look the best. It had a small split in it, anyway. Would have been nice to have found a grey newer style lid but oh well. Opted to recover it. That was not fun. Hubby said it came out 'pretty good'. That's about the best praise I'll get so all in all, a success.

The little drawer requires some small amount of trimming. Two small bumps got shaved off and part of two fins. It's pretty obvious and easy enough. On mine the latch receiver (the hole for the latch) needed the upper part removed about 1/8". Trim, check, trim, check, trim, check.

^^That's brilliant. I originally had a 1997 4Runner that I bought new. It didn't have the compartment. It did have a rear locker. It got wrecked in 2003 and when I went to get a new one I didn't like the 2003s as well. I got my 2000 and I did not know it had the extra compartment until about 2010 when I joined this site and read about them. My extra compartment was full of old gas receipts that apparently CarMax missed when they detailed the truck. LOL.

Ha, funny you should mention this, we were wondering how many people don't realize it's there......and how many still don't. Given how you get into it I can see why that would happen.
It took a month for us to realize the hidden compartment. Found it by mistake. Actually thought we might have broken the cover at first. Hope the storms missed you last night. I hear it was rough up in Kansas City and it was a little rough here for a while.

It went through here really quickly, then just rained a bunch. Wentzville got hit pretty hard, northwest of us. Glad you didn't get hit too hard either. Getting close to planting time- that's when I hate the storms and hail the most.
Been a little awol lately. Got all caught up with the Toyota Trucks and Trails podcast, so awesome.
A little jaunt through New Mexico, Arizona and a quick bit in Texas and even quicker poke at Oklahoma. Home again. Hot shower? Permanent housing structure? Mattress that doesn't require inflating? HOT SHOWER??? Took the VW again, boy, did we miss not being able to hit those roads that take you to those places where there aren't other people camping. Still, that mileage though...
Pics later, mostly hikes and dwelling pics, a VLA and the Cadillac Ranch. Been a long long bunch of driving and doing and I'm going to bed in just a bit.
Other than that I've ordered a timing belt kit from Aircabinman off Ebay, and got a Four Seasons heater control valve because mine is leaking. Will do those things both at the same time. I'm also in the middle of recovering the arm rests to match the recovered Center console lid, one left to go.

It's weird stuff, chuckles89, some of it looks so much like wood, some of it is so colorful and obviously mineral. I didn't expect to find the petrified forest as interesting to me as it was.
