Turbo 4runner start up, almost done

Yeah, it does good. Still working on fabing up a cam mount. Need to get it done because I think we are going wheeling Sunday and want to get some video to see how it works off road, its intended purpose.

Really having a hard time figuring out what i want to do with my truck. I just replaced my bypass valve, so i am not officially maxed out on this supercharger. Nothing else besides nitrous i can do to get more power without opening the engine.
It is either turbo or i actually have someone i am talking to about making a bigger supercharger kit for the 5vz. This kit would allow for 400whp+ if made.
Not sure what i am going to do lol.

At lunch my friend took a short video with his droid just for fun. I will try to get real video in the near future with some 4low action. You can tell there isn't much lag though, when you want to go it goes. It's a 30psi gauge so where it stops at like 3k rpm its at 7psi already. I like the part where I pass the suzuki xl-7 and you can hear the wastegate doing its thing. Still no exhaust/downpipe yet.

Looks like you hit full boost around 3500rpm?
Technically very laggy for that turbo on that motor but not bad when driving around. Some more videos with a lot of different driving conditions/spool up's would be great!
Gonna upgrade the valve body on the transmission? With the power a turbo can make might be a good idea and at least lift off the gas going into 2nd gear if you want it to live. just a tip from someone that has been there.

Well it can hit full boost before 2k, so technically not that laggy. Probably from rolling at 20 then it downshifted and was already up there in rpm. So if i was stopped and punched it and it didn't make 7psi until 3500rpm then you're right, very very laggy. In the video from when its floored until full boost is only about 1 sec. Just a bad video to judge from but oh well.
As far as the trans, probably just go till it pops and put a manual in it.
Next is either a rear e-locker, or more boost and fuel management.

The auto will actually be faster with that turbo setup then a manual, cheaper too. The valvebody upgrade is like $700 and will handle 500whp on an otherwise stock tranny. Thats what i would and plan to do for a turbo build. Plus building boost off the line before a 4wd launch is an epic feeling on the street. You are just about untouchable off the line, ask me how i know. lol
Do you have a wideband BTW? I bet you are already running lean as it is.

Brake stand it makes about 4psi before the tires start spinning, haven't tried it in 4wd, done doing that with $1000 invested in tires though.
As far as a auto being faster than a manual doesn't apply in my situation, not making a race car just want the extra power in mud, sand, and steep hills when I need it. Also not doing any 4wd launches off road. Borrowed a wideband and drove it, it's a little lean but fine at 7psi for now. I also like manuals for off road and dual t-cases would be cool too.

4psi is not bad, would be interested what it would make in 4wd.
What are your AFR's right now?
Transmission is up to you, i am a die hard manual fan myself and could not think of anything else on the 4runner for the first few years but i have slowly been converted as I have come to realize how great it is off the line with 4wd.
Speaking of investment, got that price list handy by any chance? Really in a fierce debate with myself on what to do now. Comes down to money in the end sadly.

AFR was around 12.5. Might swap my wifes 5spd into mine and give her the auto. Haven't had time to do a full price/parts list yet, trickiest part is the oil system so you don't make a smoker.

The wideband I used was kinda old and acting up, but never saw any numbers that were scary. The plugs read pretty good too. Have turbocharged around 7 cars over the years and this thing seems to accept it pretty well, but lots of room for improvement.

Generally AFR's will be pretty good up to ~4500rpm then they will go real lean in a hurry (I have seen it go from 12:1 to 14:1 between 4500-5500).
Luckily we have pretty good knock detection so it tends to slow any damage. It does like to burn valves when this happens since it is retarding timing. Just watch things carefully and then get some fuel mods in place and you should be golden.
Whats your MAF read the intake temps as?
