I was going to put a 1' section of braided at the turbo end, but I can kick the turbo and it doesn't move so I didn't even bother with it. If you see a thread called "seized my turbo and engine" then maybe I should have bothered.

I am sure you will be fine unless you hit something offroad.

Boy, you both kinda got screwed on the factory final drive. Although 4.10 is definitely sufficient enough for the 3.4, my 4Runner came with a 4.56 FD and I was thinking about going even shorter once I put 33" tires on.

I really wish the 3.4 had better HP and torque numbers from the factory. I used to have a 05 WK Jeep (Grand Cherokee Limited with off road package) that I bought new when I worked at a Chrysler Jeep dealer that had the optional 3.73 final drive. That thing could easily smoke my 4Runner even while towing my 21' Larson. I just hope that once I have a turbo setup like yours, it will have similar acceleration.

I must say that I am jealous of your video and that you can go off road all year round where you live. Up here in Wisconsin, we got two inches of snow today and it's about 19 degrees outside. It's not exactly weather that makes me want to go outside and work on my 4Runner. Yeah, we can go off road in the snow but I wouldn't attempt it with the tires currently on my truck.

Just wanted to make a little documentation here about the turbo build because there was some scepticism on building a turbo system for only $800. I have had lots of messages, emails, and pm's regarding this from here, youtube and other forums I post on. So it's been about 5 months now and performs flawless (so far) everyday, and I try to abuse it everyday. No complaints or problems yet including: no oil consumption, oil leaks, no detonation/pinging, increased fuel mileage, nothing broken, and it hasn't blown up yet.

Haven't been easy on it either and I still drive like this everyday, except it's on pavement during the week.

Now that the paddle shift is done I'm going to try and get back to getting my air inlet up higher before something bad happens. I can't just put 3" pipe up the side because I can't see anything out the side mirror. I found some oval pipe but it's ridiculously expensive and round to oval transitions are even more expensive, and it isn't even the material I want to use. I was bored today and may of found a way to make my own oval aluminum tube, tested it on some leftover intercooler pipe I had laying around.

Hey Ace man, im thinking there's got to be a cheap water/meth injection setup one can make. You just need a pressure switch, pump, tank & spray nozzle right? Im asking cause ive been looking at different setups & they're not cheap. Any thoughts?

LOL, yeah I was gonna link to that. Although spending the extra for a $250 pre-made kit is not a bad idea at all if you really want to get the most out of it.

I personally think that it is worth it to spend the $500 on a progressive kit as well.

Thought about this before but I don't want to cut a big hole in the body if I don't have to.

Engine technology has come a long ways since our engines were released in 1995.5. In the late-90s/early 2000s, the 183/190 hp and 220 ft lbs was actually more favorable than most all of the competition, and particularly when the competition had 4-liter and 4.3 liter engines. I wish I could find the table I used to have that showed that not only did the 4Runner have competitive power to the competition, it did so with much less displacement but considerably higher fuel economy. It was the first production truck with DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder. Variable valve timing changed the playing field again, most every medium sized SUV has another hundred horsepower more than our 4Runners. You can fix that with a supercharger at less than the cost of sales tax on a newer rig. That's how I justified it anyway.

Or a turbocharger.
