#1

The missing spider gear was in 3 pieces at the bottom of the housing.
Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's off to the junkyard I go!

Spider Gear

I'm not sure, GRNTACO
You can't tell from the pics, but the cross pin is sheared at one end and that part of it worked loose and chewed the pinion.

I figured that is what happened. I mentioned in another post about the diff that it was possibly the cross pin issue. Not the first time I;ve seen that happen in a tacoma. First I've seen of the actual spider gear grenading though

won't work with a tacoma housing, that's an 8.4 diff. you'd have to do a LOT more modification to fit an e-locker than you would with a standard 8" housing
could always grab the whole housing, but i've never seen a pickup newer than about '90 in a junkyard, and NEVER a tacoma or 4runner

Sorry, I realized that just after I posted it. You're to quick for me to correct it. A local yard here actually has a stripped tacoma, but the whole rear trd axle is still there (as of 3 weeks ago). It has been there since summer. Those guys get a lot of newer 4runner in, they even have a 03 sport edition. I've been contemplating to buy the front seats.

A rear diff from a local yard cost me almost $400.00 after taxes & shipping!
