Smile Fragged Rear Diff--Pics!

The missing spider gear was in 3 pieces at the bottom of the housing.

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, It's off to the junkyard I go!

Spider Gear

I'm not sure, GRNTACO
You can't tell from the pics, but the cross pin is sheared at one end and that part of it worked loose and chewed the pinion.

interesting, it blew out your spider gears

when mine went, 2 whole pinion teeth sheared off and that's what destroyed everything

3.4 + auto + 33s isn't that much torque or tire

I figured that is what happened. I mentioned in another post about the diff that it was possibly the cross pin issue. Not the first time I;ve seen that happen in a tacoma. First I've seen of the actual spider gear grenading though

Look for on off them diffs with the little electric motor on it while your at it.
A bit more work to put in and a lot more fun to play with.

won't work with a tacoma housing, that's an 8.4 diff. you'd have to do a LOT more modification to fit an e-locker than you would with a standard 8" housing

could always grab the whole housing, but i've never seen a pickup newer than about '90 in a junkyard, and NEVER a tacoma or 4runner

Sorry, I realized that just after I posted it. You're to quick for me to correct it. A local yard here actually has a stripped tacoma, but the whole rear trd axle is still there (as of 3 weeks ago). It has been there since summer. Those guys get a lot of newer 4runner in, they even have a 03 sport edition. I've been contemplating to buy the front seats.

What yards have you been searching?!!!! We have diffs for all Tacomas, including E-licker models!!! We have all kinds of diffs, ranging in price, condition, milage. We also have Axle housings, axles, complete axles, and on and on! If Toyota makes it, we've got it! Hit me up with a PM for more info, or check www.nix99.com

Why could'nt you have posted that link earlier, Cougar?
A rear diff from a local yard cost me almost $400.00 after taxes & shipping!

It is Pro Truck and Van, they are on the south side of Highway 1 just a 1km east of Mt Lehman. I always deal with Lee, he seems a bit moody at first but is not unreasonable to deal with. Don't try to wheel and deal the price down, since that only annoys him, and he will ask a stupid price next time you come in. That's just my experience.
