Nice build. Wish I could make it to the Jamboree this weekend. Busy with other stuff and not done with the truck yet.
BTW: I like the hood pins. Might have to do that to mine, even though the hood latch still works.

Thanks! The pins rock. I jus need to figure out how to keep the hood secured so ppl dont have direct access to the engine bay. I gots some expensive stuffs under there.

I didnt get the truck goin for the Jambo so I took the 85. No big deal tho, I hitched rides mostly anyway. It was a kickass time. Great turn out too. I got a chance to talk in person with some of they guys down there about my engine probs and they all were sayin that it is almost undoubtedly the timing cover causing the water leak. I will get to doin it here soon. Gonna give the breaker bar/starter method to get the crank pulley bolt off, since the heat/impact method didnt work.

I wish I could have made it still. Missing out on alot this year with my truck still in the works. No time to work on it though.
Yea I think i just used a long cheater bar and some quick tugs to get it loose.

Do you know the ins and outs of the vacuum lines? I have a few diagrams but they don't show exact routing in places. Maybe a video of your vacuum setup would help me???
The RE is probably different though.

Oops, should have just looked at the engine pics.
That would be very cool of you to send some pics. I only have the valve cover, exhaust and vacuum/filter housing to put back together to reserect the engine.

Ah hah. I see why I thought it was a 22RE. I just ignored that the carb was right there too.

I used this for my vac lines, http://www.bluebassdesign.com/boonin/carb_faq/. It seemed to help. I will still send you some pics to give you some more to look at.
Goin back out to finish it up after makin a parts run. Got another head gasket and some RTV.

No problem. Here are some pics of mine. Might add to the diagrams if you have any doubts.

Heres what the old timing cover looked like

And how the engine is sitting as of right now.

I have some stuff to check out before I slap it back together. Tryin to find out if there are oiler holes in some of the head bolt holes (in block) or if its cracked through. There seems to be some of that milkshake down in there.

I really appreciate the pics. Its going to be next weekend before I can get to it now, out of town for work this weekend through probably wed.
My engine was at that point not long ago. Kept the same timing cover but replaced the water and oil pump.

Thanks. I decided to pull the whole thing and go rebuild. I saw some things that I didnt really like on the block, ie: worn cylinder walls

are you going to replace the chain guide with a metal-backed one?

I will switch to a metal backed one to prevent the gouging again.

I decided since I was already so far in tear down that I might as well tear out. Thankfully I did cuz those main bearings and rod bearings were awefully worn. There also was that nasty smell of burnt oil in there . I hate that smell. Crank looks pretty decent except for the ridges on the rear main.

Mains. The rods looked the same way

Pistons n rods out
