i just bought an 87 and need to replace rotors and pads. i bought a haynes manual but it doesnt have directions for 4x4 rotor removal in the 4x4 manual. i started taking the hub apart to get to the wheel nuts but the chrome out hub doesn't want to come off. I can see where someone before has beat the crap out of it trying to get it off. Would someone give me some advice

Its kind of a PITA to get it off there. There are cone washers behind the nuts that hold that crown on there. The only way I have gotten them off is beating them with a big ol hammer or a big heavy rubber deadblow.

Get a Brass Shaft or Brass Hammer, put the nuts back on over the cone washers, but on JUST ENOUGH to where they are plum with the end of the studs..... Then give em a good healthy wack or 3(You don't HAVE to use a brass hammer if you put the nuts back on the studs till level with the ends), ..... You'll see them loosen up and sometimes(like with me) they'll shoot out from the holes like a bullet!(Thus, the nuts help with that, and of course to keep the threads from getting munched).

PS> Look for the "Rotor Removal" in the brakes section.... I think it bounces you back and forth to the Hub section, but it differentiates from 4wd and 2wd, and I KNOW it's in there. ONLY THING, .... don't listen to them when they say, "Use a Punch".... I damaged 2, permanently before I realized the 'bang on the stud' method.... Had to hit the dealer for them, then realized I DIDN'T NEED THEM for my Warn Replacement Hubs! lol. Still had to get them off though.

Got out in the garage today with the mentality to get a good chunk of my bumper fabbed up and welded. I got pretty far.

All that is left for me to do is cut and weld the side runners, cut the angles the go on either side below the riser part and fab up some D shackle mounts. Im thinkin about havin it powdercoated but Im not sure if I can afford it at the moment. I might just blast it my self and spray paint it flat black. Dunno yet.

MY PLEASURE, Zach! lol.....

I have it on my Grill Guard(or as some so nicely called it, AFTER I put it on, .."A Grill/Bumper/Light-Carrier Annihilator!") hahaha. I actually have a pic I took tonight that has it in the pic... I'll post it later to see what you think. Just so you know, even the black IS NOT BLACK, .....it's more DARK-Dark Gunmetal Grey? lol. They do have toolbox grey too though, ..>Hmmmmm, lol.
