Im jus waitin on my pay check to come in so I can have some machine work done on the head. If I can salvage the head, I might run what I got and build the other block for a jus in case instance. I did get a swing away tire carrier from my sisters boyfriend. It was on his F350, I am gonna modify it to fit my truck, but priority right now is makin the money to get that machine work done. Hopefully they can fix 'er up. Fingers crossed!!
Good grief! What a STUPID answer. First of all,.... is he resetting the torque rating from 15-20-35-50-62/final while he's doing this????? I'm not buying that explanation. Personally? .... I think he's lazy! lol. Sure, putting the head on 1/4 turns at a time takes time.... and time is precious....but C'MONNNNNN, right?

Best wishes, Zach!!

Effin right Chef. I always do the quarter turn thing and step us the torque. Im pretty sure he just zips it on and says to hell with it.
Im closing in on the goal. I hope to have it down to my machinist sometime in the next week.
Its started gettin warm and not driving my truck to show it off is just makin me crawl in my skin haha. I miss driving 'er tons and can't wait to get 'er on the road again.

YESSSS! LOL. I'M DYIN TO GET'R'DONE! lol. Can't wait to pull out, running, with my freshly FIXED RIGHT motor and the top off and HIT THE MOUNTAINS! I am doing my diff swaps right now, so I'll have the locker in there the next time this thing 'FIRES UP'! Woot! lol. I did some research on the NEWEST machinist I found, today,.... I'M REALLY relieved! KILLER guarantee, really great custom work.... and WILL NOT install 'half arsed' china parts and call it a day.... Will NOT guarantee his stuff if that's the route I take. .....................FINALLY! >>> Someone who GIVES A CRAP about his shop, his customers and the ''guarantee that it's done right" that he offers! lol.

BTW, .... I went to Putney's for the OEM HG...... Dealership: 80$ minimum.... Putney's: 30$! lol. Honestly, for that price, why would I use anything else, right?

Can't wait to see you "ON THE ROAD AGAIN!" lol. Country fan or not, ...gotta love that Willie Nelson Song, eh? hahaha.

Awesome Chef. Im glad to hear you got a machinist worth his salt and one who cares. That really aint that bad for OEM HG. Is it one of those mostly metal ones? The one we got in the Rock Auto kit seemed to be nice cuz it was mostly metal (less places to blow out). I can't wait to see those diffs in your truck! Ima go with the Spartan eventually too. Im pretty close to havin enough to buy it. Willie Nelson is the great. I am definitly a fan lol.

I will hopefully have the money for the solid axle, new doors, head machining, and the rest of the way for the locker tomorrow night. My buddies wife wants me to fix the bumpers on her 99 Lexus SUV. She took out a mail box with the front one and backed into the garage door with the other. I got the front one done tonight. It looks pretty good. I don't think theyll complain any cuz Im savin them so much money. My old paint instructor said to charge 300 each but since they get the GBD, Ima charg em just 300.

Off to the machine shop today to drop the head off. I took it apart jus now and it looks like I may need a new cam and the cam journal #3 will need refinishing. I think I will go with one of the engnbldr cams.

Hey Zack, .... just for S&G's, ..have him run the cam on an indicator. I had my nearly new 261 run on one and it was over 5 thousandths off in the center. I could feel it when I turned the cam in the head with the journals on. I went to Engle Cams and they put it on this machine and straightened it for me. They are, literally, ALMOST ALL OF THEM, 'Bent'. It's not a huge deal, and it wont destroy anything. But, I'm pretty sure that's where my "tiny surging up and down ever 3 seconds"(only like 20rpm) was coming from.... Because it didn't do that before the cam swap.

PS> Tod told me, "Manganese Bronze" guides are the SHIZZLE, last nearly forever, just have to set the valve fitment a TINY bit looser. hahaa... Sorry, just blabbering on here, ......seemed like a good idea as I was typing, lol.

Ok, ....bubye? hahahaha.

Well fellas, got some bad news. I went by the machine shop today cuz they called me in and its a worthless head. The scoring on the #3 cam journal is unfixable and she said that it wasnt even worth fixing. So it looks like I am in the market for a new head. Just weighing out my options now with who Ima go with.

A short block is gonna be without a head. That would be nice if I could get one off of him lol. I might have a line on a 20r head from a guy here locally.

There's gotta be a yard with one on the cheap, Z! That way, you take it right to a machinist, let them inspect it, they'll tell ya, "SURE, it's fine", and you're good, orrrrrrrrr, ..."NOPE, junk, try again" and you can just return it to the Yard for another.

I've been REALLY digging with Machinists, etc., and seem to hear from almost EVERY ONE OF THEM, ...."Seriously? Toyota Heads are the Best. There are some fine castings, but they're just not the same quality, period. I would rebuild your head, even going 1mm over if you want on it, but using the same head."............. I'm speaking to one of them again tomorrow, who will explain the 'quality of aluminum' factors, etc., that are behind them saying so... And, I'M NOT saying it's Yota-Biblical Truth! hahaha. Just sharing what most of these 30 year guys are telling me. Apparently, Topline, all of them, they're all cast in China. Especially right now with Japan in it's current Sitch. I heard actually, that many of them do come from Germany, ...Think Tod of engnbldr told me that, "WAY behind on stuff, because of Japan crises... Actually getting my cams through Germany right now"...Pretty sure that's what he was saying... which I'm sure it fine. Not even sure China is always such a bad thing, ....just, ....GRRRRRRRRR! lol

Anyway, sorry for rambling... I'm going to be re-using my head, ..... If I was going to get an engnbldr, etc., ....I'd gladly sell it to ya on the cheap. it's already dis assembled, lol. Just gotta TRY to do this with what I have, so that MAYBE, just maybe, I'll be able to get to the things I ACTUALLY WANNA DO ON MINE! LOL. yA KNOW?

Thanks for the input Chef. I would prolly go with the EB head and cam if this 20r thing doesnt work out. I hope it does though cuz it seems to be in really good condition and almost ready to slap on. The only couple factors that I have no idea on are: will the manifolds work and do I need to do anyting else or is it just a bolt on mod? Looks like some research is in the future.
