Mistys Runner and this truck have a similar problem and just wanting to see if there is anything I can do about it. The wiper motors on both trucks wont go to the normal stow position. I have a few spare wiper motors so I took one that I have and disassembled it. What I have noticed is the terminal should have a little button or nub on it that has worn off. I am wondering if I could use solder to remake that part that has worn off. Do they even make a brass solder that you could duplicate? I think that would fix one of the problems with these motors.
I really don't want to pull the motors as getting the wiper motor back in time can be a pain to deal with. Been there before, if I could just do some soldering to fix the terminal, I think you could do that with out removing the motor.
Also you can see the plastic that stops current flow that controls the motor some how.

If this isn't fixable, I am see about trying to get some wiper motors out of California as they don't get as much rain and will have a lot less wear and tear on the motors then what we have in our area.
Just for information, this wiper motor is for an 85 or an 86 model due to it having the round plug. The newer models have a square plug.

What I did is fill the hole with solder and it seems to be sticking really well. I will hook up the electrical connection to my 86 and see how it does. I am going to ask Ray if this would work as well.

The 87 and newer motor, here is the square plug I was talking about.

Unfortunately, getting the newer model motor apart has a little clip that holds the wheel on. I tried getting it off and broke the shaft the holds the wheel.

The bottom wheel is how the motor comes apart. Not sure how to get that clip out without breaking it. Not much room to work with it.

Basically it operates the same as the older motors, but isn't as easily serviceable.

Here the disassembly (destruction) continues. Since it is broken I wanted to see if there was any other things that might could be fixed but the inside of the motor has held up well.

We have been getting rain and hail lately. Been keeping the trucks in the shop and carport. I don't care for this time of year but hope the hail will pass soon. Wanted to take the 86 truck to the muffler shop and get it replaced, but hail stopped that. Hoping to get it done Monday if weather is permitting. I did get another heater switch for it and see if that fixes the lower speeds that are not working. I will check to see if it works first by connecting it first before pulling the dash apart again.
I was working in the yard and seen Mistys tags have been expired for two months now. Got another harness for my 85 and feel confident that I will have it running as soon as some injector connectors I ordered for it get here in the mail soon. Once I get it running that build should take off quick. I am getting renewed hope on it.
I got moved up to Moderator. It is going to take me a little bit to get up to speed and helping with keeping the site running. I may try and see if I can get Misty to create an account just so I can decline her, hehe. I try to keep things where kids can watch how these trucks progress in builds and keep Yotatech a great site it has been. There are plenty of other sites out there and this is the only one I care for.

As another newly minted rookie Mod, I concur!

Thanks julruls, Gizzler00, and Jason. As soon as I figure out what needs done, I want to do my part in keeping the site as good as it has been and makes it enjoyable to be here.
Hello rworegon..I look forward to working with you and your pm liked the info you had to say.
Thanks Nervo19..It is probably more then what I will make in social security someday, lol
Hello cyberhorn.. I had to go thru a sobriety check point awhile back and cant believe they missed that. I am shocked we haven't been stopped for it already. I have been in several towns and passed several cops. That is on the list for Monday to get new tags. My 86 runner is coming up as well. Time flies by, seems fairly recent that I got them on the road.
Thanks rustEDyota83... I did go and see I was the first post on your thread. Also noticed that you have information on your first post listed. Just noticed that. That is one thing I like seeing and is hoping that catches on. I try to post links or pics when possible and remember when I was a newbie and what it was like to start on these trucks and websites. I am always joking with Misty and she has a funny way of mocking me and has it down to a science. She got me good the other day. I am very fortunate that she doesn't have any problems with me working on these trucks and helps when she can.

I got a new exhaust system on the 86 pickup. We don't have to worry about emission inspections here so the catalytic converter didn't make it home. They are usually so worn out that they are not doing any good and in the past I had one to break apart and clog the exhaust system years ago. They just get so brittle. Last few I took to the scrap yard they weren't worth anything as I guess all of the good metal burnt up. I scrapped a new Edelbrock catalytic converter that came on a truck as the aftermarket is not nearly as good as the factory. If you are going to keep a catalytic converter, you are better off with a factory replacement and they are not cheap at all.
Eventually I want to get my catalytic converter removed from my runner as it is just a big ugly rusty looking piece hanging down and it shows when you are several feet away. My exhaust system is in great condition but don't care to see that ugly thing when walking up to it. I wonder on a new exhaust system if you used the VHT paint if that would keep the pipes in better condition for the long haul?
New pipe from the "Y" pipe to the end. The old muffler was in bad shape. I got the quietest one that I could get.

Thanks ED.. I is nice for my own reference and for others. One thing I tried to change when coming to YT is to be able to post pictures or how I went about certain things.
Hello chuckarhunt...I had them to put on the quietest Toyota replacement that they had. I will see if there is a manufacture name on it. It is quiet. The orginal one was getting pin holes in it and didnt have much life left in it.
Thanks cybrerhorn... I like the under side looking just as good when I can. I have alot of cleaning done on the front end as well, just done havent gotten it detailed yet.

My 85 has been fighting me the whole step of the way. They changed the wiring harness from 85 to 87 ( using an 87 harness ) but it did fire up. No fuel tank and just on starting fluid. Last couple of seconds and this is the 2nd start time. Wahoo!!! No exhaust and half vacuum lines not hooked up.

On the 86 extra cab, I can not get all 4 blower speeds to work. They work on my 85 so I swapped the blower resistor, heater switch, checked the fuses and replaced the relay behind the dash and even layed my blower motor in the floor board and I can still only get the highest speed to blow. I am going to take the wiring harness to the blower assembly out of mine but dont have high expectations of that fixing it. I have looked at the manuals and that isnt helping a whole lot either. Any suggestions????
