Here is what is left to finish the 86 up. Most is electrical.

Get the wipers working correctly.
Get the lower blower speeds working correctly.
Get the TPS on and set.
Buff out the roof of the cab and then give it an overall polishing.
Remove some overspray.
Finish blackening the front half of the frame.

Started on the TPS issue. I got a new one and now I cant find my feeler gauges. I plan on putting it on the TPS on the truck first to make it easier to adjust. It takes fifteen hands when the Throttle Body isn't mounted.

Cleaning the contacts in the previous post didnt fix the wiper delay issue. Still working on that on.

I tried to find a chrome tailgate handle and am sure they dont make one for the 84-88. They do for the 89-95s. Got the handle on.

Just so I will have the numbers at a future time. It take 2 clips PN# 62955-89101 for the top and middle of the side trim. 1 clip at the bottom of the trim PN#62955-91C01. They look similar but are not interchangable. No way of getting them out without breaking them. They have to be replaced. My auto body store sells clips so I have a few spares to see if they have something similar and will post them up if I find something at a later time.

I put a dab of super glue to help hold the rubber strips on. Not needed but it is such a small amount and it keeps them from sliding down and easier to install. There is a little lip that sticks out. Pay attention to how you remove the rubber strip to install it right.

Strange on the wipers. Are you going to try and swap in another whole switch?

I always wondered how those trim pieces went on. I never messed with them in fear of breaking them upon removal.

Hello Gizzler00... I think what I am going to do is swap everything from my 85 and see if I can get it working that way. Once and if I get it working that way I am going to swap out one part at a time until I find which component isn't working. I will post some info that I think is incorrect in the FSM. Double check and see if I am not messing up.

The way those clips go into the slots, there is no way of removing them that I know of. The squeeze in when going into the holes in the body and I just don't see how you can get them to collapse to remove the tabs.

There is not enough room to slide the trim up to get them to slide off of the clips as the roof rail will only let it slide about a quarter of an inch and you need nearly an inch of movement.

One the green box it says " Wiper Control" and even in the diagram it says Wiper Control. Box is green, just looks black in picture. The picture in the book is the exact same plug as on the green box and has the same missing pin as book.

I think Toyota got their Wiper Control Box and Rear Wiper and Washer box mixed up.

So trying to understand the FSM isn't much help in troubleshooting the green box. Plug isn't matching up.

That's a great Idea on the wiper system. Narrow it down one by one.

Hello Gizzler00...It is giving me a tough time. Little by little I will get it.

Thanks Cory... There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes and slowly I am catching on. Trying my part to keep the site great. I have been on a Chevy site and another Toyota site and when the moderators don't take care of it, a site will go to pot quick.

Laptop shut down on me and I lost my last post, grrrr. Try it again.
Had some over spray and took care of it. Seals look new again but is easier to avoid the overspray.

Been working on getting the front of the frame degreased and painted. Got a leak of the front transfer case seal. Will be looking into that.

Wore a foam pad out. I set a bottle on the hood and it slid off and cracked, Doh!!! Has a smooth wet feel now. I finished buffing, polishing, and waxing the truck. Still need to do the roof cab.

Emblems were faded. I sprayed entire emblem black and while still wet. I wiped the emblems on a flat surface and a paper towel to keep the chrome shiny.

Waiting for them to dry and will install them later. The EFI is glued on so will need to find a good glue for them.

Hello Gizzler00..The bottle on the right and halfway up on the bottle is the one that cracked. I have to keep it laying on its side to keep it from running out. Meguiars is some great stuff, but that can be an expensive mistake. I learned my lesson on that one, lol.

Thanks junk4u... When it is out of the shop and in the yard, I do have to admit that I do like seeing it sitting there. I used my third gen to go to the parts store and coming home and seeing this one and my two first gen runners in the drive way was a reward coming home.

It may be strange but stepping in the shop after the previous day and smelling, bondo, paint fumes or polishing compunds is something I actually enjoy. (Okay, I am off to the pyschiatrist now, lol.) It did have the shop smelling good afterwards.

I got the windshield wiper sprayers on. I like the ones on the left. They have a little "V" tab that makes getting them on or off an easy job. The ones on the right have a little skirt on them and is a pain in the rear to do get on or off. They are interchangeable and the "V" ones are what I try to find when in the yards. I havent found exactly what years of trucks they are on as it seems they can be on any year.

Finally got the elusive stereo wiring harness. Another part I am always looking for when in the yards. I have seen more electrical issues when someone cuts the stereo harness or hacks in a trailer wiring harness. I have checked several trucks for this and was surprised that the truck that this one came out of that it had it. It was hacked everywhere else. Between the soldering on this and some on my 85 I will be doing. I got plenty to keep me busy for a little while. I took a break from the wiper and heater issues so will be getting back on that today as well.

Wow, you're making some good progress Terry! It seems like it's all the little stuff on the "to-do list"that adds up that takes the most time! I need to give my 4runner a good wax job and polishing, I'll have to give Meguires a try, I hear it's good stuff!

I learned a couple of things today. I seen in the manaul that it said to check a Circuit Breaker. I have an 85 manual. So some things are bound to be different. This 86 does not have a Circuit Breaker. I checked another harness that I have as a spare and it has one. Not sure what year it is out of. I dont know if Circuit Breakers are elsewhere if not on the fuse box.

If you have a circuit breaker here it is. You can reset it with a test probe.

This 86 does not have a Circuit Breakeror at least not on the fuse box. It could be elsewhere but as of now I dont think it has one.

Got the Stereo Harness fixed. The harness I used does not have a brown wire in it anywhere. I feel it could be an option that was not available on the harness I used.

I think I gothe Blower issue figured out. The 3 prong is what I got from Rock Auto. It may be year specific and when I ordered some parts for my 85, I just automatically assumed it was the same as 86. Also I have had problems with parts store parts in the past. I took the 4 pronged out of an 87 runner I have in the back and it was a 4 pronged heater resistor. I put it in and it was in bad shape and I am sure I heard the blower kick on at a lower speed before the resistor disentegrated. I think if I get the 4 pronged it will be fixed.

Here is the destruction I had to do to figure out everything. Got the Wiper Delay working. I found one in the shed and since the original was burnt and going off of the history of these delay boxes being bad, I thought I would give it a shot. It is FIXED!!!
Green Box on seat is BAD. Going off of the history of the boxes, I took a SWAG ( Scientific Wild Butt Guess), lol

Hello Cyberhorn...It was the Wiper Delay box and I did have two them that were bad. The only real way I figured that one out is that the salvage guy told me that is a high failure part. It was just a guess. I took the one out of my 85 and tested it and it was bad. When I was at the boneyard I grabbed another one and it was good. I think I got the last one he had.

The gray truck I was looking at as a future fix and sell, a friend of mine bought it and it had wiper issues. It too had a bad Delay Box and he replaced it up on my suggestion and got it working.

This truck is now TURBO. It is on the road and a really solid truck. It didnt come with a turbo in it, he installed it.
