I got the Blower Resistor in it and the blower is working. Some have 3 speeds and some have 4 speeds. This one has 4 speeds and all are working now. If it had not been for my 85 FSM, I am not sure I would of figured it out. Some have 3 prongs and some have 4 prongs. I talked to a parts guy and we did some looking on their computer and it seems like the 86 and newer are 4 prong and the 85 and older are 3 prong. I could be wrong, but that is what it seems like. Go by the VIN for correct information to find what you may need would be the best suggestion.

My 85 is a 3 prong set up. I moved everything from my 85 to the 86 extra cab and is still wouldnt work. I dont know where the difference is made up at. Toyota is always changing something.

Now on to the TPS issue. I took it out of the box and connected it to the harness and not the the Throttle body. It was just laying in my hand. Jumped T1 and E1 and the battery was unhooked all night. It instantly threw the TPS Code. Now I am thinking it is a harness problem or even a computer problem. I have a spare computer and will try that first. Elecrical problems are not my cup of tea. Some how I just stumble into them and am to stumble out of them.

My friend has a gas guage issue and he is frustrated with it. He has done about everything he knows and still no luck. I am going to see if I can help him on his gas gauge and he seems to have a little better luck with TPS. Maybe I will fix his issue and he can fix mine. Sometimes you need a fresh set of eyes. The fix is the easy part, it is finding the problem that gets you.

This truck below was the most loaded pickup I have ever seen. It was Turbo with a digital gauge, SR5 with every option you could imagine. It caught fire due to the electrical window switch shorting. The owner was going to fix it back up and has wanted to buy my 85 body in the past for this truck. I wouldnt sell my truck. He had it on a farm he owns and most likely some scrappers went in during the night and stole it. He had over $3000 worth of work on the tranny and motor. Stinking scrappers may have gotten a few hundred for it. Who knows??

if he calls to any local crushers or junkyards ASAP with the VIN terry he might be able to get the theifs caught they do have to log vin numbers down even if there is no clear title

I will mention it to him. I have seen scrapper caught that way before. I am out at night and if I seen it on a trailer, I will notice it. I would like to see them get caught.

I am working my way towards the TPS and the bed. The interior panels had some minor damage and I was able to hammer and dolly them out. I tried holding them up and then put in a vise to work with. Laying them on the floor made it so much easier and using the floor as a dolly. Just hammering out the flat spots makes a big difference on these and is easily done. Just make sure the flat spot of the hammer is flat when it hits the floor. A cheap and easy fix.

With a spray in bed liner any imperfections will be covered up. I did the same on my 85s bed panels. One I was going to scrap and I decided to see what I could do with it. I am now going to keep it for a spare. The one on the left is when I finished sanding them with 180 grit. One on right is the before picture. I will need to cut off some broken bolts that broke into the tabs that they bolt to and will use sheet metal screws to hole them.

Got the bed panels, tailgate cover, and the hinges. I done quite a bit of hammering and dolly on the bed and with a spray in liner, it should hide most of the flaws. I am trying to come up with a way to sand blast the bed floor on this truck and my 85. I had to get all of the converion parts out of the back to buff out the roof and should be getting to that soon so as I can get the chrome rails on the rain guards and get the windshield trim back on. I do have 3 broken bolts that hold the panels on. I tried to take a cut off saw to the back side but the way the tabs are shaped, I am going to have to drill them out. I will have to use 3 sheet metal screws to hold the panels back on. Not the way I want to do it but really no way of getting them out with what I have.

I got another TPS Connector and did resistance checks from the pins to the wires and from each pin to make sure they were not shorting to each other. Each one passed. I did a temporary connection to the old TPS and the new one and jumpered the diagnostic port and it immediatly still flashed Code 11. I tried another computer and still wont pass.

I tried running resistance checks from the wires to the computer and it is just to far to reach with the test leads. If I was able to read two of the test right, I am showing two of the four wires are not having connectivity. I pulled the Injector Harness so I can test those two wires better and see if I can find a break in them.

Hello kornhuskerwizard...I knew my day would come with one. I got it. I think I have two broken wires in the harness and chasing them thru the harness is like chasing spaghetti. I always learn something on these tough ones. I have reviewed 4crawlers site and the FSM, but still, it is giving me fits.

We are getting rain off and on so I have been trying to get things done in between that. I did spend some time getting plywood on the shop walls. Waiting for a week of no rain to take some time off from work and get several things done. In the mean time I just keep chugging along on what I can.

While chasing wires in the Injector Harness, I did paint the Plenum. I masked and painted all of it and then used a sanding block with 180 grit paper to get the paint off of the EFI.

I can have the battery disconnected over night, hook it up with the TPS and it will instantly throw a code. I traced the wires and according to the 85 FSM and my Haynes Manual, two wires are not in the correct spot. E2 is the only one that is in in its correct spot and passes resistance checks. VTA doesn't have the wire in its slot. I am not brave enough to rewire it to the way it should be. I have a friend that has a runner that was taken good care of but the frame and body rot just over took it. I am hoping it is an 86 but it could be an 87. I am going to see if he will let me at least use the harness out of it to test and see if that will fix the TPS error.

id go ahead an do it terry if the wire is the problem then ya got it licked see if a couple others with 86 could check their plugs see if theres a terminal in the spot

Hello Cyberhorn...I am always worried about wiring to the computer. I did get another harness today and really hope this will solve the problem. If it doesn't, I will pull the harness out of my 86. Hoping not to have to go that far.

I was working on the shop and ran out of materials. Where I had to go to, there is a salvage yard not far away that I don't care to deal with but thought I would see if he had an 86 harness. He did an hope this will fix the problem. I still had to take a few connectors from my old runner harness that Mr. Mouse got ahold of when it was parked in the field and my old 85 harness had a connector as well. I learned the 85 have larger plugs that connect to certain parts. Toyota is always changing something.

nice paint details terry shoot the whole thing with clear (after degreasing it) an the aluminum will stay with that brushed finish longer

glad you got another harness so quick jeez man you must have like a rack of harnesses there looking for bodies... dr terrystine an his toyotas... LOL

Thanks Cyberhorn... I cleaned the shop the other day and I took ten harnesses from the shop to the shed. Some main harnesses and some injector harnesses. All but one is good. Some could be fixed but most of them are damaged when I got them. PO really butcher these trucks up. I have a few harness that will never be used again but they sure are handy when I need connectors. I have a curtain of harneses hanging on a rafter.

A stock harness does great for me and have never had to do any hacking to get them to do what I need to operate. There are adapters and knowing how to get the connectors loose works for me. I just dont understand how and why they get so damaged.

I put the new harness on and the new TPS and got all "1"s and was happy. Went to put the wire on the TPS connector and everything went down hill from there. The same results. No CEL when the truck is running and the jumper is out. Put the jumper in and it will flash "11".

I am wondering if I bumped the TPS and got it so far out of adjustment that it will set off the Check Engine Light. Will pull it off again and see if it is adjusted right. That is a pain in the rear.

I tried two other TPS that are adjusted form the factory just to see what happens. Same results.

Because it was easy, I swapped in two other ECUs. Same results.

Code 11 can also be AC switch. I tried with 3 other AC switches in the On and Off Positions, disconnected and connected. Same results.

Called Cyberhorn and he suggested checking for a grounding issue in the AC circuit. Will do that today.

In the FSM and Haynes a CEL 11 can be AC related but not much info about how to check it out. Any suggestions???

Hello guys.. I had it working and running for 10 minutes and then went to put on the wire clip and button everything backup and was going to start setting valves and that is when it came back. It may be the connector, but I pulled this one myself off of the salvage truck and it is in excellent shape.

Resistance checks seem to pass well on it. The two plugs I changed were because they were chaffed from rubbing on the parts and, one was the water temp sensor, and the oil sensor and have not part in the TPS circuit.

I am wondering if it is the connector or can I have still have it so far out of tolerance that it will throw a code. I do not have a warm and fuzzy feeling on my setting the TPS gap. Those settings are close. I have been to several sites, 4crawler, Pirate, Toyota Nation, TTORA.. and still havent found anything. FSM and Haynes has about the same information.

I am going to ask a few guys I know around here if they can check and see if I am doing some thing wrong. Usually I can stumble thru something and fix it myself but I think this is the first one I have had to get help on. TPS SUX. lol
