Had a great weekend wheeling.

Came down this:

The truck died at the top of this one. No Idea why, fuel pump was on but was acting like it was out of gas. We started towing me out, and 50 ft down the trail I push the clutch ant turn the key and she idles like nothing ever happened. Weird. Wheel on!

I would have had this one but I got stuck on the.... torsion bard mount.. Dam IFS is still hanging me up. Hard to see, but the drivers fender is up against that rock, it kinda broke it off a little.

Different hung up spot.. Hmm, almost made it. Haha

Little winch action and away we go.

Shut the truck off again to watch the rest come through, and just like that, wouldnt start again. Towed it back to camp, and let it sit for a few hours, trying it every 20 min or so, and one time, it just came to life like nothing was wrong. Hmm.
Heres a link to the rest of the album, lots of cool terrain.. F And F August 2014 Photos by ediblecrayons03 | Photobucket
Truck did great. Have a few small things to fix, I cracked 2 welds on my bumper, some how got a leafspring clamp stuck between the 1st and 2nd leaf.., oh yeah, and this pesky little no start thing.

nice pics man, that thing is a beast! that's weird with your starting issues, maybe carry a can of starter fluid and next time that happens shoot some in the intake, that will tell you if it really is a fuel delivery issue.... or i guess checking for spark would tell you the same thing. intermittent issues suck to diagnose!

Didnt make a difference with the gas cap opened. I have a one way valve on a vent line to let air in without letting gas out. Ill hopefully have time to check it out this weekend.
I only got pictures of my self when I was stuck. Haha. I ran 98% of the obstacles in the other pics in the link. I was hoping some other peoples pics would surface but no luck yet..

x3 on that idea. Haha. Best part, is I have to wheel it to get it to act funny..
Ill be going down to work on it a bit tomorrow after work. Fix the 2 welds I cracked on the bumper, and get the leafspring clamp, out from in between the leaf pack. Finally going to get around to capping off the doors too (hopefully soon)
Thanks for the replies guys!

Whent wheelin over the weekend, but only snapped 2 pics of my truck. I need to remember to hand off my camera to other people.
I beat my random no start, by not shutting my truck off all day. Haha. When I stalled it it started right back up, I let it sit for 5 min mid day off, and it ran very poorly when it started back up. After we were done and I was back at the shop I let it sit and it didnt start. No CEL light on, but checked the codes anyway and got code 14, which is 'a loss of IGF signal between the ignitor and the computer for 6 events'. In other words, the computer expected a signal that the plugs were firing but couldn't tell they did 'fire' or 'spark' for 3 rotations of the crank (6 spark events). More importantly, it means that the computer, for whatever reason, did not detect a proper 'spark' and 'combustion' event for a long enough period of time to signal a serious problem.
We tested the coil per the FSM and found it was bad. Per the FSM circuit 1 has a max of 65, and this one was reading 78. circuit 2 was in range though. Ill get one tomorrow and swap it out.
I got hung up 5 min in..

And again here. Poor pic but I needed to winch out of it.

Heres a vid of 2 of the trails we made..

Also having some PS belt issues. The stock one is too big, even with the pump maxed out, there is still slack in the belt. The "stock per the parts store" is Gates P# 9480 and is 48 3/8" long. The counter guy suggested 9465 at 46 7/8" but couldn't get it over the pullys. quick google search brought me to gates belts list HERE (its a big list, page 11 right column) So I have a few other options to try. I think Ill try 9475 ad 1 inch smaller than the current belt.

That 4.0 Loves rev limiter. haha.
My no start is still lurking. Wheeled all day sunday, shut it off and started it a bunch, and only ones did it sputter when I started it. But it did start, and I tried my hardest to make it not start, but it did every time after. Huh.
I did find a correct ps belt. Gates P# 9476 and is 47 15/16 " long. Its a "hd" belt what ever that really means, but it fit perfect, and no more squeek.
Also finally upgraded the battery, went with a Diehard p4 group 34/78. I did some online research, all brands had both good and bad reviews.. so I just picked one to try. First impressions are this battery is awesome. Winching before with the stock battery/alt was a chore. Would have to rev the truck for a few seconds then dump the clutch and winch for a few seconds till it started to die, let it charge for a second then winch again. It was painful. Tested this one out by winching up a loose dirt hill on a slight off camber, about 60 feet long. The winch pulled the hard the whole way up. Very impressed, worth every penny.

Started the day by bad axle wrap taking out a rear drive shaft on a YJ. For some reason alt wouldnt charge and just spooling the winch out killed it enough to not turn over, so I came back down to give him a jump.

This sweet little sammy and 85 truck came too.

Just edited the awful typo riddled post! Lol.... Yeah, he's in downy or Whittier or something like that. I was just down there not too long ago my brain is like spaghetti soup lately. Lol. I soaked mine while running and fried it and swapped it out no questions asked after like a year and a half! Anyway, he's very good guy and it's a good product to me so far, so I can't give you a 10 year history but I can tell you it's been working great! When I click on a bunch of a load my digital voltmeter quickly pumps up to 14.5 again, after an initial drop. He uses a much larger 3-wire stator to make up for the fact that its the same size alternator putting out more than twice the power under load. Like I said, unless you pack the thing full of mud while you're rolling down the road, you shouldn't have a problem. Lol

Little video from over the weekend.

So the truck will start every time, but after it been sitting hot will sputter a bit, you can hear it really well on one of the hill climbs. It will "blow out" after a minuet, and only does it when hot.

Rained all day on Sat, took me and the samurai, both tied off to trees dual winching to get the heavy chevy out.

Havent wheeled with this red truck in a few years, there pics of our 2 trucks on the early pages of this thread ifs wheelin on 33s. Haha.

Thanks guys!
Small up date. Brought the donor truck home. Its good to have friends with flatbeds. Will probably start on this once snow sets in.

And bushwacked for while. Almost rolled on a fun newer trail that ive only donw once., there was a very tippy feeling when we were only on two wheels. We all felt it, as we held our breath, but it dropped back down onto all 4 instead of the passenger side thankfully. Haha.

And the new project in the shop, my step dad picked up a 51 plymouth 2 door wagon to rat rod out.
