I need to install a wing glass into the red runner I have out back. Glad you posted the info up for me. It is missing and I need to get around to getting it sealed up from the weather.

nice job on the window, i've always wanted wing windows...it never made sense to me why they always seemed to put wing windows on trucks that have ac, and not on the ones that don't....seems logical to do it the other way. anyhow, one of these days i'm gonna have to do something about it on mine

Nice job replacing the wing window!! I want to learn how to do that, Its only a matter of time before I will have to replace one.

I also never knew that the wings were only installed on AC trucks and runners.

On the quarters, how large are those panels?? Is that a whole side?? I have had good luck with their stuff like I was telling you before. If you decide to get those, Ill help you cut out and install new. I have a decent little 110V MIG that I use for Body Panels. Its .023 wire.

Mine doesn't have wing windows and has a/c. My parts truck doesn't have them either and no a/c. I do recall my brother had an 87 and an 84 both had wing windows and neither had a/c.

The panels come in 3 peices you can buy separate or all together. Im not sure if i need the entire panel or just the wheel well above the rear tire.

Im totally not confident on welding in the new. I have a clarke 110v mig with flux core .035. You run gas?? Would it be better with gas to weld?? Thanks for the help Mark!!

Took the family to roca berry pumpkin patch. Went on the haunted hayrack ride, the psychopath, and also played this cool game you shoot a gun at random things that reminds you of an old western saloon with a haloween twist to it.

When you do replace the panels, please post any tips or tricks up. That is something I have always wanted to learn and do sometime. Will be looking forward to that project when you get to it. I bought some rocker panels from Wolf Steel and was really happy with their product. Never got to install them but they were well built.

Glad to hear you were happy with theyre product Terry. If anyone knows about these toyota bodys and working with body stuff its you. I will definetly need some help and guidance on installing them, pretty sure i could cut out the bad and get the new tacked into place but thats all the further id wanna do. Im used to welding heavy steel and iron not this thin of metal. Pretty sure id blow through it and just piss myself off.

Hauled my chevy 3/4ton trailer today after doing yard work with the runner. By far not a heavy load but the runner hauled it well to the tree dump and back. The hitch that came with the runner is great, i have to remind myself that i wanted this thing for camping and light trail use, i want to keep the body nice and clean. But its tempting with the locker to see what i can climb on. The front left cv shaft is torn and starting to cause noise so i will rob one off my 87 donor later today to fix the problem.

Also hopefully take it back to Tim the guy whos suppost to align it. Im also gonna ditch the pro comp front shocks for some NEW OME's hopefully soon, the pro comps seemed ok when i installed them with the bj spacers but they were used and all i could afford at the time.Just goes to show...YA GET WHAT YA PAY FOR!!!!

With a little creativity and work, it is possibl to build these trucks for cheap and have something dependable. Soon as I get the chance, I want to go back and update my cost and see where I am at. Thanks for the reminder.

I would be intrested in the rear bumper, it will be a little bit before I can get to it. If you are wanting to sell it quicker, Nervo might be intrested in it. He mentioned about a bumper for his. I am going to look at an 87 runner parts truck later this week. For the right amount, I will possibly buy the runner.

Hope you get it. Parts rigs for cheap are always good investments if you have the room to have them

Very good overall price considering what you have now. Its a solid rig. Most of what you have into it is just your time.

As far as the welding goes;

I generally always use .023 wire with a MIG (Gas-C02/Argon), when doing body panels. .035 flux of mig would be to much for the thin toyota panels. You would just be blowing through the steel on the truck everytime you pulled the trigger. When I patched my rear quarters, I used the .023 line and actually had to stitch weld the panels together so not to generate to much heat.

Ill let you borrow my 110 mig or ill just help you with it!! I think that we could tackle the better part of it in a day. The biggest problem I had was that I didnt have anyone to give me a hand while trying to piece the panels in.

Let me know how the alignment goes. I hope the guy does a good job for you.

I think its pretty amazing that your runner pulled the trailer. these little 22re's rock!!

Heck ya thanks mark! Shoot, u should see the loads my 88 truck has pulled. Ive broken 2 leaf springs, and had to put in a tranny. Pulled multiple loads of firewood with it. I dont want my runner for that, it my toy!!!! My 88 truck has seen so much work and torture that i think it likes it. I just keep it greased, change the oil, and drive it.

As for the body panels, another guy told me that all you can do is (stitch) or spot in the panels a little at a time. He said he uses .030 flux core, but i agree you get a cleaner weld with argon.

So what are the twin gonna be for haloween?? My son is being Steve off of minecraft. Hes fascinated with that game, loves it.

Raining here today, good day to fire up the wood stove in the garage and pick up stuff and put away tools.

And my dog thought it was a good excue to drink some beers.

Gonna try and find an alternator today to finish my gm alt swap. Im looking for the CS130 which is rated at 100-105A. Delco part numbers are 1101229,1101275,and 1101292. You could easily buy one of these new from a gm dealer for probalbly $100-$200 or online, or a powermaster or aftermarket style.I thought id take my chances and go see what i come up with at the junkyard. This will be the same junkyard that priced the chevy 63's at a higher than average price.

Im hoping to pick one up for around $25-$50.

Ill be looking by model and year beins the junkyard doesnt know what a cs130 is.

96-01 chevy/gmc 4.3 5.7
94-01 s10 blazer jimmy sonoma 2.2/4.3
88-90 caddy 5.0
88-90 chevy caprice 5.0
88-90 buick 5.0

Ill let you guys know what i come up with.

Went to the junkyard and found a cs130 off a caprice that was like 85A? I almost picked that one up and they let me browse around at what else they had and i got greedy and found a 140A cs144 out of a 2000 chevy express van for $35 plus $5 core. Good news is its a bada$$ deal and a beefy alternator, bad news is, is that the mounting locations on the cs144 need to be at 12 and 6 o clock locations, off the chevy van theyre at like 9 and 12 or 12 and 3 however you want to look at it. All the research ive done on cs144 swaps into toyotas need to be out of a cadillac or something that has the case with 12 and 6 o clock mounting locations.

Lady at the junkyard said if it dont fit to bring it back and find something else.

Also asked if they had any toyotas on the lot and all had been crushed, no parts.

Im gonna atleast go out to the parts runner today and try and remove the l trim thats on the top to replace my rusted out trim. Ive attempted to get these peices a couple of times and given up due to trying not to mess up the seals and what not and remove them without destroying anything. I seen a pair on ebay going for like $150!!!! geez!!!! that seems a little excessive but i guess these parts are getting hard to find in good shape. Mine look like crap all rusted at the bottom, should be a mojor cosmetic improvement.

Bummer that the alternator is not going to work for you. Its nice that they are going to let you return the part though!! At least thats a plus. And it gives you another reason to go browse the yard for more goodies!!

I still cant believe how hard it was to pull those windows out. Just crazy!!! It always makes me wonder why these engineers design things in such a way that its nearly impossible to remove.

Kind of like everytime I have to do a starter on a Cadillac north star v-8!!

In the old days a mechanic could work on just about anything, but now you almost have to specialize in a certain model and that gets outdated quick after a few years.

To get the Ltrims off, you have to remove the whole window from the inside. I will see if I can find the info to remove them.
