Had to clean my positive battery terminal in the dark this morning in the conveinence store parking lot, wouldnt start. Atleast with my 88 truck i could always roll start it, not with the automatic. Anyone have any suggestions on a bttery?? I was looking at a interstate or optima.

Also pulling the valve cover after work and rechecking my timing. It idles at 1490rpm, no vacuum leaks, hovever im not running a thermostat because when i put the motor together i didnt have a new one.The temp gauge never goes over an eighth up the gauge and reads around 150 with my temp gun. So Gizler suggested a thermostat, thanks dude. So annoying with it idling that high.

Also have a different stereo (factory now) but i will have to run power wire for amplifier and i also have a cobra inverter with dig readout and usb 110v access that i will wire in. Maybe this would be a good time for a gm alt swap.

Still wanting to get me a set of chevy leafs too for the rear so i can eliminate the blocks i made and using (which do have tabs that sit in the perch, and havent givin me any trouble in the driveability)Gotta do with what you have or can make yourself when moneys tight.

Interstates and optimas are both good quality batteries. I typically run interstate myself because they are accessible in my town whereas my dad runs an optima in his race car due to mounting options. I run a bigger interstate battery as well, it's leftover from my old 97 f-350 diesel.

I hear you man. I have no issues with Japanese bikes or any other foreign makes for that matter. I do lust over some Harleys quite frequently. I must admit though I am a KTM guy all the way though. I cant wait until I can pick up another New dirtbike!!

That stinks man. I guess I always took for granted the fact that I can push start my yota if needed.

As far as a battery goes. I have an Armor Plate Battery. By far the best battery I have had to date. Its got crazy CCA and Ca Something like 1020 and 875. And has a LIFETIME warranty. Ill have to see where you can get them now a days.

As far as the Alt goes, I would say definitely do the GM swap if you are planning on adding all the other components that you spoke about.

I also like Interstate. I have had them go completely DEAD, thanks to Leach camper sales, and LEft them dead for months. Went out charged them overnight a few days before camping and they are good as new!!

Optimas are also a great battery but come at a hefty price sometimes. And they lack in the Warranty dept. They have one but it is very short lived.

Just found that Omaha standard batteries sells them here in Omaha. But looks like they no longer have a lifetime warranty. Im going to go out and get the exact info from my battery for you so you can see which one it is.

Armor plate ehhhh???? Never heard of them???? Is a deep cycle better??

Not gonna be able to mess with my timing tonight, im doing a tree job for a buddy who sold me my sons dirtbike, so im swapping the job to pay off the bike. Dead pine trees, easy stuff. Im also gonna carve KAPKE (his last name) in on of the sides of one. Names are easy and lettering but i have yet to learn the cooler stuff like bears,birds,etc... but its kinda fun and you can make some money at it too.

No prob buddy. I was under the impression that deep cycle batteries are for applications where the battery will be run down and then re-charged repeatedly such as a trolling motor for a boat. I also don't believe they have as many cca as a normal battery which could come back to bite u in the butt here in the Midwest. Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

No i beleive you are correct. Gizler is getting me info on the armor plate battery, and i have a freind that works at speedway so maybe he can hook me up on a discount on a optima.

I was climbing some dirt banks last night and bent my front valance a lil bit. I think im gonna take that thing off. Its in really good shape compared to most ive had so ill put it away in the garage for now. If anyones looking for a nice factory front bumper as well as a rear id be willing to sell them to get something beefier.

So i tried figuring my timing out by pulling the valve cover and lining up the cam gear dot with the bright link on the chain, (thanks gizler!) and i associated the dot on the distributor gear (which i google imaged and didnt find ˟˟˟˟˟!!!craziness like no one ever knew there was one on the dist gear!!) and anyways the dot is on the gear directly counterclockwise to the gear that is meshed with the cam. It looked correct to me so i put it back together and checked timing. When jumpered to base i can crank distributor all the way clockwise in slot and it reads 6 to 7 degrees. So i let it advance and its probalbly around 15. It has great response just idles hih and surges sometimes.

Ill keep messing with it and figure it out, but its annoying with an auto tranny. I keep catching myself complaining about the auto but it shifts perfect and is unmolested as far as i can tell.

I also ordered another fuel filter, oil filter by the way after i took off the valve cover it looks super clean underneath!!!!

Also robbed a battery holdown and radiator overflow hose off the 85. Im looking for a CS series GM alternator to finish my alternator swap. Im looking to go with atleast 100amps. Im also trying to figure out how to make my own cable conversion for elocker rear. Cant find a downey used one and will not pay $600 for the kit off lowrange.

Ready for snow to fly and burn some wood and work on yotas.

I think you are spot on with the Timing marks and Dist gear dot. That is exactly where mine are located. I think try what we talked about this morning with swapping distributors just to eliminate that possibility.

I am curious to see what the thermostat does for your idle. Bringing that temp up to operating temp spec might give the computer the info that it needs to correct some of the issues there. At least lets hope that does the trick. At the very least it will eliminate a possibility.

I can look around the shop for a gm alternator for you. I have A TON of them here but dont know the condition on alot of them. Ill just give you as many as you want, but you might have to open them up am piece them together to make a good one. Let me know.

Found a pair of chevy springs today off a 07 half ton 2wd. I was under the impression a 2wd had 3 leaves w overload pack and 4wd had 4 leaves w overload pack but the ones the guy shown me at the junkyard only had 2 leaves w overload. They wanted $150 a pair. I did not get them, im doing some more research. Also looking for gm cs series alternator. The guy at the scrapyard could search my year and model only and was confused when i started to explain what i was looking for. Im still waiting on my adapter plug for the wiring. I think my dads old plumbing van might have what i need. Its a late 80s 4.3 chevy.

Dang u people and your engine space with your small 4cylinder 22re's. I can't fit any mods into my 3vze lol

I'm gonna need to buy one of those stock sized 130A alternators from that one ebay user. This way I can run a stronger alternator too when I install my winch and lights.
