I would say downtime will be almost the same, price...is another story.

And let me just qualify what I am about to write with the fact that i have never done an SAS before, infact untill a few months ago, I have never even touch a SFA. I'm just telling you what I know so far.

The IFS frame clean-up is a time killer, no matter what you choose.
I have 6 brackets to weld to my frame: panhard/bumpstop, shock towers & lower link frame brackets. Leaf setup needs are similar: bumpstops, front leaf hanger, rear leaf shackle mounts and shock towers.

The advantage leaves have over links in downtime would be that fact you can get the axle with perches already installed, where-as, links need brackets installed (3 in my case).

I'm not trying to say that my junk is better, I'm just giving my rationale for spending the extra $$. Either one is a good amount of work.
BTW, I actually bought my kit from a guy that was getting a divorce and needed to sell the kit that was never installed, that was dumb luck at almost 1/2 the original price.

damn, good find!

good points, as well. i just think the "cheaper" route is a little better for me right now. though when the time comes to move up to links, i'll be picking your brain a bit

and i came across these. i might put them all around to give me a lower stance:

not too bad on price, and it'd keep my front end down by a good 3 inches

Seen those before, pretty cool. They safe for street use? Lateral force on the nylon slider...

I thought the reason for lift on a leaf setup was arch so the histeer will clear?

i'll make the steering work, even if i hafta notch the frame a wee bit. and i'm sure they're fine for on-street use. i mean, leaf bushings take a good beating, and they hold up fine, so i don't think there'll be any issue. i can throw a fender washer on if need-be.

here's the thread i was looking at earlier:

You bring up a good point about the bushings, but bushings absorb vibrations. I'm just thinkin out loud since I have no FHE. I'll check the link thx

Gotta hit u up on something: Cant remember, sorry... but did u go Marlin for ur dual case set up? I'm sitting on 2 cases, including my current.... trying to decide on either single 4.7 box or 4.7/2.8 combo.... I might be ok with just the one for a bit... but dont wanna toss cabbage in the disposal by later needing stuff I could have saved doing it all in the firsr place, should I later want to go with dual. Hmmmm. Lol.

I just wanna do as much as possible while I'm at the SAS.....but now have a leaky gear box added to the cabbage harvest overhead cost percentage! Hehe

i didn't actually set it up, but i can give you the run-down. it's got 2.28/4.70 with a marlin adapter. one of the cases is an advanced adapter housing. i haven't driven off-road with the new setup, but so far i like having the option for low, double low, or 8x low (roughly). a 2.28/2.28 could work well, 4.70/4.70 is waaaaay too low, and a single 2.28 was too high for me sometimes. if you're worried about tunnel modifications, talk with rory from radesigns. he should be able to help you move all the levers forward (like mine)

hope that helps!

Is doing dual cases the same exact thing on a truck with the 22re and the 3vze? I'm good with what I have now. But I'm interested in reading up on that mod as well due to there being so many 2nd gen 4Runners out hrre in our junk yards with the 3vze.

If it's something that'll be cheap then maybe I won't mind getting something like that further down the road.

The 3VZE has a chain driven T-case. Not sure if you can pair them?

Find a gear driven one and swap it in.

I have one just waiting to get done on the new build. Find a 22RE parts rig.

Helps much, thanx! I have two 2.8'ers right now.... I need to figure out if I just want to go for the 4.7 now and stack it up against the 2.8 I just got. I definitely have some bearing noise in my tranny now, hoping its not also in the transfer case... It never has let me down and seems to ride really nice off road, never really having much of a problem keeping up... But man, I don't think I've ever heard one bad thing about dual cases from someone that has them. I suppose I could just get the adapter and slap these two together... Then I suppose I would definitely have to think of the shifter aspect, under and in the cab. I saw one guy that modified his standard bezel for twin sticks... It was a really sweet setup but I can't find the dang thread anymore! Grrrr! Lol.

I can't wait for some action shots! love the shots of your camper as well... Always look forward to those
