Decided it was time for some general maintenance...I've had a Denso cap & rotor for a while sitting on my workbench. So today I ordered the Denso plugs and Denso plug wires from RockAuto, hard to beat their prices for the Denso stuff. My underhood is a bit messy, the plug wires are kindof zip-tied to the power steering hose to keep them off the exhaust...what I really want is to make them look like this:

Note:Not my engine

I'm missing the 2 keepers that attach to the tabs on the valve cover, I have the tabs, so I found the keepers on the ToyotaPartsDeal website for a reasonable price...and I realized I need the o-ring that goes under the distr cap, so grabbed that as well...

Should be here by the end of week (I think) to be able to install this stuff.

Recently noticed that both my license plate lamp bulbs were out. I pulled one out and it says something like Koito 12V 7.5W 89 on it. I think that means it is a type 89 bulb. Is that the same as a ba15s, they do look similar? I'd like to replace these with LED. Anyone know what will fit?

Received my plugs and wires from Rockauto so decided to get started on the work. Old plugs were also Denso, just for kicks I checked the gap, old ones were all about .041, new ones came gapped to .031, which I verified on each.

I'm still waiting on my little plastic keepers and distributor cap oring, but I got all the wires routed where I think they need to be. Also trimmed a couple of extra long vac hoses and routed that one coil wire that goes from under intake over valve cover to coil around near rear of valve cover over to brake master and to coil. It barely reaches...I also wrapped it in some new wire loom.

Took a break to eat and make that previous post and mail showed up with my package of Toyota parts.

So good to have the keepers to keep wires off exhaust. Also my oring was crispy and hard, probably was original. Here's everything installed.

Took the kids up to Christmas FL to camp with my buddy and his 3 boys. My buddy is active in a FL Coleman group, so this was their spring Meetup.

From my house to the campsite is about 170 miles, boy the old 4runner cruises nicely on these flat FL highways. Here it is at camp by lantern light.

Making coffee on my buddies old Sears 2 burner.

While sitting there, I noticed some fluid all over top of my rear axle... At first I thought it was brake fluid, but in further inspection it is gear oil. Looks to be leaking at tcase output seal and being thrown all over underside of truck. I bought a quart of synthetic and topped it up before driving home and I'll investigate more this week.

Hey Cory,
speaking of seals,

When you replaced your transmission input seal, did you end up replacing the bearings?

I've got my engine out and I'm already replacing the clutch, I figured I would replace the transmission input while I'm at it, thanks for posting the input seal part numbers.

I have AISIN Clutch Cover & Disc, Release Bearing, Pilot Bearing, transmission input seal 90311-30115, is there anything else I need to do in there I can't do after I put the engine back in?

Thanks,
Rob

Rob - I did NOT end up changing any bearings in the transmission. From the few threads I read on W56 bearing replacement, you need some specialized tools which I do not have. I really had no issues with my tranny other than the oil leak, so I opted to just replace the seals.

Tranny output seal is 90311-32009 in case you are interested in changing that one as well. Sounds like you are just about covered. I assume your rear main seal will be new, and your flywheel will be surfaced or will be new. Oh, you might want to order a new crush washer for the tranny and tcase drain plugs. I'll check your thread, I haven't looked at it in a few weeks.

Thanks Cory!

My flywheel looked fine, my plan was to just scuff it up with some sandpaper and seat it the Italian way.

For the transmission output seal, I thought it and the Tcase input were mated together, so it would just leak from one into the other? I run the same fluid in both, and therefore really don't care if they leak between the two. Is that not the case?

Rob, they do share same type of fluid but you don't put any sealant on the surfaces where tcase and tranny meet, so any oil that gets out of tranny would leak out. I suppose you could put rtv on faces of each if you must, but oil in that cavity is not doing you any good, better to keep it inside tranny.

Gotcha, i didn't realize there was a cavity between the two, thanks

I'll probably do the rear and the tcase seal later, since I don't actually have the tranny out at the moment, just propped up under the truck

My side emblems have bothered me for a while. And I've been emailing Brad Hicks at bh3d printing for a long time and he finally came out with some that are like his aluminum enameled landcruiser badges... They are awesome. I have what I think is the very first set.

That looks awesome and it's funny how you've been working on that. I was working on cab the other day and of course I'm not going to paint the entire cab because of the windshield issue with leaks. But to stop a larger amount of rusting I'm going to paint around the windshield. While doing that i wanted a good point to stop painting and that was under the panel of the B pillar. I spent a little while figuring how to remove it then went online and found that the clips holding it in place are still available at the dealer. So I carefully tugged off the panels most of the clips snapped off so yeah they have to be replaced. Going back when I snapped off one of them the emblem also came off which showed me that the original owners may have tried to touch them up at one point. I was pondering (actually surfing on ways to refresh the emblem and figure gold leaf paint would do fine. Mine doesn't seem as weather as your are right now. If I ever get the interest in replacing them i guess I'll get those as they look great. I see they used your truck as a model.

Hey Coryc85 bringing this clip back from the dead. I've got a couple of coleman stoves I've had for a while. Back in 2005 I had the opportunity to use when the hurricane knocked out electricity for a couple of days. I was the only one on the block with a stove cooking while most were lighting up there BBQ. Cooks a full coarse meal. I have the white gas version and a propane version got to love them. the problem with mine are the fuel, white gas is hard to find in a gallon now days. you can make your own out of regular gas, but I'm not getting into that of making a distiller just to make white gas. It either propane or the 1qt of camp fuel.

Those stoves are nice! Great for a car camp trip.
I like white gas, too. My backpacking stove uses that as well as gasoline, diesel, kerosene. Allows me to find fuel even in less developed places.

For white gas I've been using Crown Camp Fuel usually best deal at walmart. I think, the last thing I bought was the gallon can...

Hey rad4runner...
Yeah i love those stoves since I was a kid camping and for lanterns. Funny thing is naphtha which I think is raw coleman fuel with out all the stuff mixed in has pretty much harder to get as well in a gallon size. I was down at Wallyworld the other day and couldn't find any naphtha or camp fuel by the gallon.
